  1. there was definitely at least 1 patch I was fishing about 10 feet around, and I know it's new because dragging my jig through it dredged up bright green grass. 1 was caught while burning the crank right over it, and the other was caught by casting to the opposite shore.
  2. where does one even get 100 lb braid?!
  3. I caught 2 today on a squarebill. Quite unexpected when it's snowing and 30 degrees outside. I was burning it over the tops of the new grass patches.
  4. Well, I finally caught one. Not big but a bass is a bass and I was grateful for it. I was burning a KVD squarebill in orange belly craw (1.5 size) over the new grass mats. This was 1 of 2 fish. Air temp was 30 degrees, water temp was 46.
  5. When I'm pond hopping (which is 99% of the time), I throw a water bottle and a cliff bar in my tackle box. Cliff bars are great! I can be completely worn out, eat one, and be full of energy for the next hour.
  6. Drag a jig around rocks, when you feel rock bounce the jig off it for a reaction bite. Same goes for a lipless crank: find some new grass or grass that hasn't died yet, and yo-yo the bait up and own. Jerkbaits on drop-offs and humps. Some days, you just can't catch fish. My friend caught 3 yesterday by pitching a jig into flooded brush. We got skunked today fishing the same pattern. Winter is rough and it's ok to get skunked.
  7. anything from storm... total junk. Call me a hater but i dont like strike king baits at all. the durability of the rage tail baits is just as bad as yamamoto, and i just dont like them. that being said, the caffiene shad is the best fluke on the market IMHO. the perfect plastic lineup is decently durable. i'll never buy from tylures.. i would buy rapala baits on sale...definitely not at full price
  8. welcome! where in the nova area are you?
  9. alright thanks I'll flip it over and see if it fixes it. Schematics? Pssshhh. I have a photographic memory. I can picture every piece and where it goes just from seeing how it was when I took it apart. (And I put all the pieces in order.)
  10. Can you describe what a pinion yoke is? I'm rather new to how a reel works.
  11. turning the handle resets the freespool depression lever just fine. Its just that when I hold the spool down, the handle turns but not the spool. If I was to fight a fish I would not be able to reel it in. Something is not engaging properly.
  12. that was a different reel that works just fine. This is an old one I thought I stripped the gears on.
  13. You twisted the sideplate down right?
  14. Hey everyone, I decided to take apart my broken silver max to see what was wrong. I laid out all the pieces and everything seems fine, but the reel won't spin the spool if it has any pressure on it whatsoever. The spool and the gears spin perfectly without pressure on the spool. The gears are all fine, nothing seems to be broken. What is the problem? Is it the drag washer that has gotten too smooth or what? If anyone could tell me what part is broken so I can replace it I would greatly appreciate it.
  15. I'm sold. Hopefully the bills on these will last longer than most rapala baits because you don't have to bounce it off of anything to get the hunting action. Looks pretty sweet. I'll probably pick up a few of the normal cranks in the bluegill color once all the hype dies down and they're easily availible. I'm hoping for a deep diver and a wakebait would be EPIC.
  16. yep it reeks, but I would rather smell hog tonic than that nasty gulp stuff.
  17. Alright thanks. It was just so windy that I didn't even know the fish had it until I pulled it of the bottom. Ah wll, it happens.
  18. Power Team Lures Sick Stick. Twice the action, way more durable than senkos, they sink super slow with a 1/16 oz wacky jighead and have the same action as a senko, with an 1/8 oz wacky head they fall a bit faster than a senko and instead of just shimmying the tail ends the whole bait rocks back and forth.
  19. But the question is.....will it catch fish?
  20. I had a small bass on yesterday for a few seconds before it got off. I was fishing a wacky 5" senko, and I had paused to talk to my friend. I lifted up and I was fighting a fish. It got off shortly after that. Was it even hooked? I was using a 1/0 gamakatsu weedless wacky hook. The barb was flattened if that means anything, but I had constant pressure on the fish so I don't see how it got off if it was hooked. I'm just wonering why it came off.
  21. LOL! That was great. She totally killed her business.
  22. That looks absolutely wicked.....it should be a powerhouse with that handlebar. What gear ratio
  23. A water snake that completely swallowed my deadsticked 5" senko, and another time I dredged up a nice pair of loafers with the laces tied together. Biggest thing I have ever snagged was a 50lb snapping turtle that is a good 100 years old and 5 feet around. I'm not even kidding. I measured it to be 61" from head to tail while my friend sat on it and held its head to the ground with a Y-shaped stick. That thing could have taken 3 fingers off in one bite very easily. Its head was as big as a ping-pong paddle.
  24. I throw the 1.5 on a spinning rod and the 2.5 and 3.0 on a baitcaster. I get the most bites on the 1.5.
  25. A tip: don't get a mojo. Go for a 7' MH abu garcia veritas. Way better for the price. I have held both at BPS and played with them a bit. The veritas is lighter and has more backbone, but it's $20 cheaper.
