The bend of the hook is what is causing issues. I have those swimbait hooks and they are designed for maximum hook-ups on fat (height) swimbaits, so the point is not in line with the screwlock. I find a normal 5/0 EWG to be best for all buzz frogs.

Nope, the bait is not a rage craw. Its a PowerTeam Lures Diesel Craw. The jig is designed to stand up, but the bait is neutrally buoyant so the claws float up. A rage craw has better action but it desnt float, so the claws won't stand up.

My first bass came out of a pond at the end of the street 3 years ago on a watermelon red coffee tube, 1/0 EWG, and a 3/16 oz tungsten weight. I just T-rigged it and was hopping it off the bottom. I like to think that that bass is still in there, but who knows........ not everyone follows the rules of C&R.

Quanjig I would fish with you as long as you tell me all the secrets of the northstar jigs that just dumped out of their shipping envelope.

Usually as light as I can get away with. The lowest I go is 1/16 oz, and the heaviest 1/4 oz. If it is really windy or deep I will go up to a 1/2 oz. I get the most bites on the 1/8 oz.

Hey everyone, I have been fishing tubes with an internal jighead for a bit because the action is unbeatable, but I am getting tired of the constant snags and straightened light wire hooks. Does anyone know a way of rigging a tube weightless, but still give it the awesome spiraling action of the jighead? All input is appreciated. I have tried texas rigging and the slide-in weights but nothing can match the internal jighead because of the vertical line tie. Thanks! -Cullen

I like the powerteam lures jp hammer shad and finicky tickler. Strike king also has an AWESOME goby bait that I texas rig......absolutely hammers smallmouth in the rivers around here. It would do well on the DS rig.

Am I the only one throwing straight braid??? If I get hung up I grab the spool with my thumb, point the rod towards the snag and walk back until the hook straightens.....that way I get my skirt and trailer back. The only jig I have broken off was a hack attack, due to the massive unbendable hook.

Don't like em one bit. SK jigs are not high quality..... not even close. I bought a bitsy flip once. The head was malformed, the weedguard was not even in front of the hook point, the point was dull, and the skirt had barely any action. Stick with seibert and northstar. The extra quality and performance is worth it in the long run IMHO.

Of course! I texas rig them, use them as topwaters, and use them as a swim jig trailer. Also good on an A-rig. My top 2 grubs are the powerteam lures grub and the rage grub.

Simple solution: slide the weight onto your braid, add a glass bead, and tie the braid to a good swivel. Tie your mono to the swivel and enjoy catching fish.

Edit: misunderstood the post. I concur with the guy below me. a pond I fish has several carp 6+ feet long that nobody fishes for because they are grass carp......I have tried to snag them but they are so hard to hook.

bluegill maybe? I lost my beloved 1/2 oz black/blue hack attack the other day thanks to a hookset into a log because a bluegill nibbled at the trailer. (Got the 3 ticks characteristic of a jig bite.)

If you give some more info we can help you catch some bass. For example: I went fishing yesterday, and the water temp had dropped a few degrees thanks to a thunderstorm. The bass had moved out of the shallows and were at the middle of the deepest drop-offs I could find. I caught them by fishing a swim jig. (Bank fishing) Find the bass, figure out their mood, and pick a presentation. If you catch a few fish, change to the same bait in a different color to see if they have any preference. (I started with a shad color swim jig then switched to a bluegill color, and every bass on the bluegill color choked it.) If you tell us what the weather has been like the past week we can help you start to pattern some fish.

I have been seeing tons of small cruisers lately, but they spook as soon as I get near them. The pond I fish doesn't really have any offshore structure. Its just mud bottom with pea gravel everywhere. I know that to catch fish during this period you have to target the bass that are on the first dropoff, but there are no dropoffs in this pond. Where should I fish and what level of the water column? (Bottom, middle, top) thanks!
