  1. This was Alder Lake in ashburn village. If there's 5 pounders there's 10 pounders..... just gotta find where they live.
  2. no kidding! I actually freaked out the most when I saw it come hurtling out from under an overhangin bush to chase my tiny 2" storm minnow. I was shaking like crazy when it went under the surface scum.
  3. I need to get some 6" weedless hudds asap
  4. thanks A-Jay. I hope this serves as a bit of inspiration to keep you going even if it isn't a 10 pounder.
  5. sorry meant size 1 not 1/0
  6. The trout color would be fine. Rig the stinger hook with at least 65lb braid. Use a 1/0 Owner stinger treble, 3X strong. I wouldn't use a leader. Fluorocarbon is not 100% reliable. Go for straight braid, at least 50lb. Braid isn't 100% reliable but it is way more reliable than fluoro. If you get a backlash and the lure stops with a fluoro leader, say bye-bye to your hudd.
  7. D&M Pirahna and the *** Lures CrazyJig
  8. Epic day. went out for 3 hours at a new pond and caught some small bass on a wacky rig, then i decided to tie on a little 2" Storm swimbait. A huge bass chased it to shore and then swam under some surface junk. I knew that hook wouldn't hold that fish, so I tied a 5/0 EWG onto my baitcaster with 50lb braid, and rigged it up with a PowerTeam Lures swimbait. Slow rolled it right through the junk, BAM! Finally got my first big fish this year. 5 pounds 1 oz with the fish weight calculator formula. (not exact but this fish was over 5 pounds for sure.) I'm still pumped 2 hours later........
  9. cut it in half?
  10. Sounds to me like he is sending you on a wild goose chase. Stuffing a hollow body frog with anything will impede hook-ups.
  11. Bubba shot with the shellcracker rigged sideways?
  12. Its just because senkos have such awful durability and they are loaded with salt. If a fish shakes its head underwater more than twice your senko is gone. The hook or line just cuts right through them because they are half salt and half plastic.
  13. Just get some fish fry breading, mix in a little salt and pepper and flour, dip the fish in egg then roll it in the breading and fry it in oil at 400 degrees. Take it out when it's golden brown. Oh yeah, and cut the fillets into 3" squares before all of this. Please don't keep bass over 17", if they get that big they can live to be giants. If you want an exact recipe, www.google.com is your friend.
  14. It really depends on the cover. A Brush head is going to be horrible at coming through weeds and you really need a bullet or fat bullet style head- (think regualr swim jig and flip n swim). Also, most brush and football jigs don't come in baitfish imitating colors. That is where you will run into problems.
  15. I did this yesterday with a few split shot. I did catch some fish but it was just inconvenient because you have to fish it super slow or the worm will just drag on the bottom. I caught more fish when I slid the split shot up to the hook and hopped it on the bottom because I could fish faster.
  16. Bluegill Shellcracker swimming hack attack
  17. I have a few favorite uses. Punching- it is a deadly little punch bait. I use a 1.25 tungsten and a 4/0 hook and it goes through the hydrilla like a dream. Great action and hooksets. Topwater- great little weedless finesse buzzbait on spinning gear. Flipping- self explanatory Swim Jig- I rig it vertical on a hack attack with a bluegill skirt I put on the head. Pics to come of the swim jig later.
  18. There's really no exact match for the green gizzard shad but I think the closest colors would be Hickory Shad and Diamond Dust. (Hickory Shad being Summer Sexy Shad and Diamond Dust being Green Gizzard Shad.
  19. It's one of the best swim jig trailers out there. Works well on a 5/0 swimbait hook too. 1/8 oz to 1/4 oz depending on how deep you want to fish it.
  20. HAAWWWWGGGGG! What color jig and lobster?
  21. Punch it. Heavy rod at least 7 feet long, fast reel, 50-80lb braid, bobber stop,1.5oz weight, straight shank flipping hook, and a soft plastic. Flip it into the thickest patches you can fish, let it hit the bottom, and hop it up and down in big strokes. The bite will either be a numerous taps or it will just stop on the way up. Once you pitch it into the mat yo-yo it 5-10 times, then bring it out and move a few feet.
  22. On all my spinning reels I spool up with 12 pound powerpro. If the water is clear I add a 2 foot long 12lb fluorocarbon leader. I have never gotten a wind knot or had any trouble with powerpro. I don't use straight fluoro because it is such a pain to handle on spinning reels. Baitcasting is a dfferent story. For online stores, check out tackle warehouse. They have everything you could ever want and amazing shipping deals. (All orders over $50 get free 5 day shipping, $5 2-day shipping, and $10 next-day shipping.)
  23. what weight swim jig are you throwing? I tried it on a half ounce and the weight overcame the tail and it just fluttered with less action than a grub...... maybe I need to retrieve slower?
  24. Nightcrawlers, but I have caught the 1 pound pumpkinseeds in my local pond on KVD 1.5's, 5" finesse worms, and 3.5" tubes, even a rage craw! The things are so vicious.
