  1. I love using lipless crank. Being a newbie to the sport, I find that even when not catching fish, it keeps me entertained lol but it actually catches fish and at times, is the only thing that bass will hit. My buddies are starting to be believers as they only fish worms and jigs. When fishing is slow I'm casting LC and catching bass. They then take out their lipped crankbaits out and try a few cast with no luck and switch back to jigs and just watch me. I target areas where about 4-8 feet deep and just off the weed lines, can't throw them in thick weeds anyways. Yes I have lost a few fish but the trade off is that you cover more ground. As for the Strike King, horrible paint durability. They catch fish too but after about 10 fish the paint is all chipped. I am sure I'm not hitting rock bottoms as it's all weeded bottoms. My favorite that seems like many people don't really use yet as they are newer is the Rapala Rippin Rap. My favorite color is the gold chrome. Seems to out fish any other color and even the Strike King. I even take it to the river and get smallies, walleyes, and a huge sheap head that I have no idea how that mouth could go after a bait like that lol.
  2. Many great answers but I'm still puzzle as to why a frog rod would be an expensive rod when you actually see the fish bite. On average a crankbait rod is cheaper of all the techniques. Understandable as they are being reeled in pretty fast and you'll know when you get a strike. Worm and Jig are expensive because you want the ultimate sensitivity to feel the bottom scape and when fish bites. Just puzzled to why a rod would be pretty expensive in terms of technique when you know you got a fish.
  3. Explain to me why a quality Frog Rod is so expensive? Daiwa's frog rod is $475, and just about any other high end ones are $150 or higher. I understand that you want the ultimate sensitivity for finess fishing with worms but frogs in my mind you can see it. When they hit you can see it hit. You are walking the frog over pads, and looking for the strike, waiting 2 seconds to set the hook. How nice of a rod do you need? I know I am missing something here so just want people to explain to me the reasoning to the high price.
  4. One of my favorite lure is a Rapala rippin rap in 7/8 oz in gold chrome. This one has been out fishing my 1/2 once rapalas and 1/2 oz red eye shads. I even took this to the river and caught smallies, sheephead, and a tree. Yeah don't ask but it got caught up on a tree and now I have to go but another one.
  5. Hi there, New to the forum and new to bass fishing. Growing up I've been into modifying cars and then sports. That takes up all of my time but now the passion has changed. The new fishing hobby didn't get any cheaper though lol. I've fished here and there in the past and just gotten into bass fishing this year. All I can say is wow, can't believe how technical and how much knowledge is needed to be a great fishermen. I mean you can make it as simple as you wish or as complex as you want it to. I never knew most people have a rod/reel/line combo just for the specific style/jig and ending up with many. There's so many products and learning what is better is hard to know right now. I feel like looking into headers and intake for cars back in the day. Which one is better which one is makes more power haha, but in reality many of them are pretty much just personal preference and gimicks over the other as they all work just as good or they don't really work. My buddies ask me anything about modifying cars and sports and I can answer just about anything but now I'm the newbie with fishing questions. So for the past few months I've been studying bass fishing every single day. Jumping around from topic to topic with no game plan. Now I have a game plan and with winter coming up here in the north I will use the down time for training lol. I'll make a game plan of what to study on, slowly buy my rods/reels combo, and build up my tackle. Then in the spring put it to the test. What I'm trying to accomplish; Learn about proper rod/reel combo for wacky worm, how to fish the techni, que and buy setup Learn about proper rod/reel combo for spinner bait, how to fish the technique, and buy setup Learn about proper rod/reel combo for crankbait, how to fish the technique, and buy setup Learn about proper rod/reel combo for texas rig worm, how to fish the technique, and buy setup Learn about fish behavior during different season Learn about lake structures and where fish likes to be at Learn about weather condition and how it effects fish behavior Learn about what color to use for certain days and water Many many more but my head is about to explode already. Great forum, I've been lurking and reading a lot for a while now.
