  1. Try Navionics. It's $10 but to me if your serious its worth it. Even if you have hi tech electronics on the boat you can always study the lakes during your off time. For me its when I'm at work
  2. I can't say my setup is Better than the other recommended but ill tell you what I have and am completely satisfy with it regardless of the price point. I have my 51E paired with a 7'0 MH *** ***. It is well balance and sensitive enough for me to detect bites on weightless plastics using 50lb braids. I did put the reel on my Phenix recon just to try it and it feels good too but didnt fish with it because I'm waiting for the 201e to pair up with that rod. Both rod are excellent but I tend to favor the *** more just because it feels better in my hand. I haven't fish enough to see which one is more sensitive.
  3. TT review is an indication of how the reel performs. It does not cover the percentage of reels being sent back for this defect as they only test the reels in their hands.
  4. I have been fishing a Chronarch 51E for that past week and it is absolutely a joy to fish with. So much that this is the reason I am selling all of my gears and going all Chronarch/curado E. That's how much i like it. I just wish the 50 series have a faster ratio at 7:1.
  5. If I was to make a guess I don't think it's about cutting cost. The Gen 3 is a new design. If anything it's just a design flaw that passed inspection but probably started to have problems on 15% of reels now and maybe more to come. So far I've heard people have been able to exchange their reels in with no issues.
  6. Wow I almost bought some used Revo STX. Somehow I ended up in a conversation with two people that didn't know each other this past week. Both said they have had issues with the thumb bar. Then the guy that was trying to sell me his STX said thats the reason he's selling his Revos. He got a replacement too and didn't want to take a chance anymore. I was in the market for a STX or Chronarch and I guess it was a coincident that I engaged in these conversation and this basically made my decision to get a Chronarch. Sorry don't want this to turn into a Abu vs Shimano but just telling my story. That sucks because the Revos feels great in my hand since I don't have massive hands.
  7. Vanish is the worse line I've ever used. Stiff as heck and snaps like no other. I'll be honest, the cool blue box sold me. Caught my eyes and the price was cheap. I wouldn't even use again if somebody gave it to me for free.
  8. For the people that are suggesting on the Powell Diesel 705cb would it be good for lipless and ripping it through grass with braids? I have been doing that lately. I think I'm going to spend less in the rod and more on the reel for this technique.
  9. Yeah that's why I'm thinking using my *** *** 7'3 MH and use mono for it. Would that be ideal?
  10. I'm using a Phenix X10 for cranks around the KVD 1.5 size but I feel like I need a beefier rod for square bills n lipless cranks. I'm thinking more of a true MH and moderate action. Or if fast action I may get away with using mono for a bit of more stretch to not rip some lips. Anyone have suggestions for a rod under $200? Would prefer split grip. Would have to serve as double duty as I'm close to being banned from buying more gears from the wify lol. Suggestions are welcome. Edit: I will be throwning 1/2 to 5/8oz lures for this. Contemplating if I should just wait for 13 Fishings crank rod at Icast.
  11. MH is rated at max 3/4 oz. H is rated at max 1.5 oz. Phenix Recon gen 1 btw. Saw a site that still sells the gen 1 at a discount because that's all they have left of the gen 1's.
  12. I can't seem to distiguish when it is needed to get a Heavy power rod vs a MH for Jig fishing. Will not be punching with this rod but will be in semi thick vegetation. Upper midwest so it's not like Florida mats. Jigs is my weakness and I'm determine to make that my go to lure for big bass this year.
  13. I suggest you hit up Craigslist and you'll be able to find a nice spinning setup that'll blow what your willing to spend on brand new. I'm a Craigslist fanatic lol. If you let me know what city your in when bored I might even search for you just because I'm that bored and post it up for you.
  14. Yeah I wanted to pick up a cheap rod dedicated to LC and TW had the sale and almost bought it until I saw the lure rating. It is either a typo or a rediculously dumb rod that 5% of anglers would use. 1/8-5/16 oz? Majority of LC's that people buy are 1/2oz. Plus the aqua blue didn't help my decision to buy either so I passed.
  15. Zell_pop1 I just bought one for a heck of a deal at $60 for spinner bait and swim bait. Decided to throw cranks 1/2 and 5/8 oz and it cast pretty far. I've heard everyone's testimony about this reel and its exactly what people say. On the heavy side but wow is it a nice reel for its price, especially when on sale for $80. Luckily I got it cheaper. I got the 5:1 ratio one too.
  16. Actually when a crawfish thrust their tail to get away they go backwards. They curl their tail. If you look at the profile of a crank, especially a lipless crank, it does resemble a crawfish backwards. Really it's just the color and possible the patterns of the crank that resembles a crawfish and they are reaction baits so bass don't have time to identify it, they just strike before they think their prey is getting away. I had this picture that showed the similarity but must have deleted it.
  17. Select harvesting! Some hardcore fish lover will say its wrong to keep bass and if you throw back all fish they will become trophys. That's furthest from the truth especially a smaller size lake. Too much competition and they all get stunted.
  18. This thread has become a pile of poop. You guys can't judge a product by ebay prices. They are all over the price map and many of their prices are guys that get great discounts and are selling it for crack head price because they're just selling it out of their trunk. You have to judge it be retail price. On the other hand a product is only worth what you're willing to pay for. Why buy a Lexus when a Toyota will do just fine getting groceries and taking you to work? Some people like things more refine and they can afford it. If we all live by the ignorant thinking then BMW's, 500k+ houses, premium suites, John Deere tractors, and anything premium are all over priced. The truth is if we all were millionaires we'd be buying some high end fishing gears that many others would say its over priced.
  19. I'm using a *** *** 6'7 Medium and I really like it. Light and well balance on my T3B reel.
  20. Really thick and nasty up north in our natural lakes by summer. Also forgot to mention but was thinking this be my double duty rod using it for frogs too.
  21. Going to dedicate a lot of time this summer on punching thick vegetations. I know many people prefer a 7'11 H rod but has anyone used a 7'3 H rod for punching? I found a local guy selling one for a really good deal and thought maybe if its good enough I should just go for it. Thoughts and opinion much appreciated and also if you think a 7'11 is better, why? *** *** Black btw.
  22. Sorry to say but that is the worse line Ive ever used. Not that I've used 20+ lines before either. It was just frustrating, especially on my spinning reel. For BC it was a bit more manageable and seemed to get a bit better over time. I'll never try it again lol.
  23. Go to thier site and you can print an ad for your local Walmart. People in my areas doing this all over. I swear walmart is so freakin cheap and dumb. Some are not honoring it and some are allowing gen 2's for sale. It's like a bunch of monkeys run that place and whatever goes, goes.
  24. Keep in mind some miss hook sets are not really because of you. Sometimes bass, especially smaller ones, don't inhale the whole worm and only take the worm by the end. So no matter what hook or who you are you really can't set the hook. I didn't realize this until one day I fished a really clear lake and smaller Bass was kept messing with me and I could see they were just grabbing the end and take off.
  25. My right hand is so much more dominant so I use LH baitcasters. My first BC was a RH because I was told people just use more RH even though spinning reels they use LH. I did fine RH but after I found that I love to pitch I didn't see any point to needing to switch hands. I couldn't pitch with my left for the life of me. So before I went all out buying my setups I switched to LH. I cast and pitch with right, fight fish with right which is my strong hand. I'm glad I made the move before my investments dictate what hand I should use. The only disadvantage with LH is availability and if your like me, buying used gears will be limited.
