I used both of them .  Pico Perch shallower in emergent timber. Bayou Boogies deeper , yoyoing them off the bottom.

I was fishing and not catching anything . I met a man who said he was tearing them up with a jig and pig . I didnt have any jigs or pigs and never texas rigged before. I slid a sinker on my line , then a black rubber skirt stolen from a spinnerbait . Tied on a hook and texas rigged a black Mister Twister twin tail . I cast it at some rip rap and hopped it like I read about. On the drop I felt a slight tic just like I read, reeled down and set the hook on a keeper bass. That was the start . Next trip I had a bag of Jelly worms and wore the bass out with them ever since.

Sometimes bass will hit crankbaits but not take it . Just bumping it . When one is caught , its barely hooked or snagged in the face .You  can  try using less a belligerent  bait. One without as much action  , duller colors and no rattle .One time I switched to a suspending jerkbait "Rapala X-Rap"  when bass were  behaving like this and that worked immediately .

His show was the highlight of My Sundays growing up . Every time he demonstrated the lures in the aquarium he would lift and drop it . So I emulated him and been lifting and dropping ever since. He influenced my fishing style more than anyone and I still know his theme song word for word.

This works with jigs too .   A plastic bait wider than the lead-head will pull  free easier .
