I did the DNA testing and started searching online for family history . There are two books about my family . One is a family tree that dates back to 1600 Prussia/Germany . One has stories . I found the Revolutionary war pension record of my G-grandfather x 5 .He was a minute man and served three terms about a month each time . He was one of them who crossed the Delaware . I have lots of old pictures posted on Facebook and relatives from everywhere friending me to see the photos . Its pretty interesting . Heres one of my Great Grandfathers.
Whatever bait is chosen , it will not be much good if it cant be presented in the places bass like to accommodate. I choose lures by what will work well in those spots and that I can effortlessly and efficiently cast. In public waters here a 6 lber is a nice fish and any lure category can catch one . I dont even own a combo that will cast heavy lures well.
Fishing in one inch of visibility can be tough but fish are sometimes caught . Fish shallow and tight. This in my top producer for chocalate milk colored water.
If the entire tree is submerged, where you cant see them except with sonar, I dont have a lot of experience with those . If they are emergent, probably my top lure has been a Squarebill . I dont like to use deep divers because the line gets hung up on limbs , then the lure has to be pulled up and over the limb.
top waters consistently catch big bass as do Jig and pigs [pork] . The most important thing, in my opinion, is to fish where big fish like to hang . Cover and/or structure.
I started out yesterday with a Covert, nothing . Threw a unique bait that a member sent me to try out and couldnt cast it . It was too heavy for my rod and couldnt get it "in" there . Switched to one of my basic , nothing fancy, hand poured spring-time baits and caught a dozen .
I just try to catch fish . Sometimes by doing something I'm not comfortable with . Thirty years ago I was mostly an off-shore structure fisherman. Today I am mostly a shallow water junk fisherman . As anglers got better those good off-shore spots became not so good.
Sometimes I resort to smaller lures , quieter , less bright , less action. A lot depends on how good is the the competition. Catching fish around skilled anglers is a lot more difficult than the not-so-skilled.
I didnt like the Terminators that a lot of people love but I dont catch pike ,. They kept their shape all right, then break unexpectedly . A stainless wire spinnerbait will start getting bent easily with every bass giving a warning that its time to retire that bait .
I just target shallow water and the cover there . Lots of different lures . Just keep moving and make productive cast . Eventually a few fish will be caught then start patterning them .
