Terminator , Excalibur and Strike King Spin Dance with the Oklahoma blades all caught loads of bass. I make my own and try to copy these three. The Fleck Weedwader with white Indiana blades is another favorite. Next time I order blades I will get some white ones to copy it.
I remember forgetting my soft plastics once. Searching through my gear I found a bag of Gitzits. I texas rigged them up with a 1/4 oz weight and didnt skip a beat . Caught largemouths shallow in cover and deep on points that day.
I havent fished a jig much the past few years. The places I've been fishing , Texas rigs have been so effective that I get tunnel vision and forget all about the jig.
Cool lures. When I was a kid and never bass fished, I would go to the sporting good stores and departments and just stare at the bass lures . They fascinated me. The first one I bought was a jointed Mirro lure. Second Storm Thin Fin. Dont know if i ever caught a fish with the Mirro lure but caught a lot on that Thin Fin.
This has been the biggest change in tournament fishing ever. I remember when Flipping changed fishing , that shift pales in comparison to beam shining. This is modern tourney fishing, I dont like it but it is what it is. I picked Cox the first two events and that was like opting for Fred Flintstone.
Most of the time I use premade skirts. I cant make them that good and they are easily changed. I do have living rubber , the elastic rings and a tool that spreads them but rarely use it anymore. Store bought skirts are the way to go for me.
Largemouths thrive in the mud. During spawn they will seek out stumps , logs or other hard materials to nest. Like others have already stated, I caught them with muddy bellies.
When I fish from bank I carry one rod and a lot of times just one bait. The bait has to be cast easily and perform where I'm fishing . Crankbaits dont get a lot of playing time for me. They are just not versatile enough plus snag frequently. Spinnerbait's and Texas rigged worms cover pretty much anything I encounter.
I must have read the same article and bought one too . Never caught a fish with it. Couldnt cast it very well either because my equipment wasn't sufficient.
