  1. Looking through a box of misc jig heads and hooks this morning , I came across these tube hooks with the clip on them that I've forgotten about. The clip holds the tube in place for Texas rigging. I have one rigged up and ready to go. Have any of you tried them? Pros and cons?
  2. I used them a lot in strong current. Twice , while battling hybrids , the hook came off. Now I wrap the shank with a little wire or put a split ring on the shank. Used them some in deep water and caught a couple . I've never had much success fishing spinnerbaits deep.
  3. I'm not familiar with a Heddon reel. Didn't know they existed. I used the CC spinner a lot because it was easy to cast with an old Abu 5000. Won my first club tourney with one.
  4. Smith lake picks in Przekurat Arey Card Wendlandt Canterbury
  5. Set the hook on a big bass and it keeps its mouth closed throughout the whole fight. Reach down to lip it , the worm comes out and it swims away. Looking at the worm, the hook is still inside. Thats happenned to me twice the past couple of years. I sit there staring stupidly .
  6. only 3.5 lbs back. Its going to be hard to cull though. He needs a monster 7 lber.
  7. Pretty good with spinnerbaits and Texas rigs. Less than 50% with frogs. Tubes excellent , neds not so much. Cranks average .Just a guess but I'd say 80 percent of fish hooked. I'm a terrible frog and toad fisherman.
  8. What kind do you have?
  9. I was the guy who could fish all day in the heat comfortably. I did it for years. Then one day at work I went down unexpectedly from the heat. Havent been able to tolerate it since. There is no acclimation for me.
  10. I pitch more than anything . I like a 5 inch Dinger, dark colors like june bug , bama bug bream... with a 3/16to to 5/16th tungsten weight. 5/16 preferable. 7 foot hvy action rod. 17 lb trilene xl clear blue fluorescent. 3/0 offset worm hook not ewg. The hook has a bobber stop at the bend to stop the bait from balling up. Its 99.9 effective. I cant remember one time where the worm slid down the shank since using it. I like to run a garlic scented chartreuse Spike-It marker down the entire back of the worm. Dont know if that helps but it seems to.
  11. First of all I would have to avoid the places I usually fish . Maybe fish a rip rap bank with tubes and neds.
  12. Yesterday, Took the one man boat thirty miles to an oxbow lake and forgot the trolling motor battery . To make matters worse I drove back home ,retrieved it then preceded to get skunked . Not a single bite.
  13. I change when it feels right. If I'm getting bored and just going through the motions then its definitely time to do something else.
  14. I have never used a split shot for bass fishing out of fear of damaging the line. I'm thinking of trying it with a small weight and bobber stop or two.
  15. The votes were tallied. Only people who listed four anglers counted. According to Bass Resource the Mount Rushmore of bass fishing is Bill Dance Roland Martin KVD Dad
  16. The only issue I have with summer is unbearable heat. The waters I fish , bass bite well shallow all season. The deep, classic points get hammered and I guess I'm just not good enough to find hidden structure that others miss. I still fish the points but they are not what they use to be.
  17. My default weight is 5/16th oz. Its what I pitch the easiest and most effective with. I dont punch around here so thats as heavy as I go . 1/4 and 3/16th are used when Needed .
  18. I havent done a stupid rig A couple of questions . What tube size seems to work best? 3.5 inch? 4? How does this thing go over sticks? With the eye pointing up, it seems like the blunt nose of the tube would interfere with it being pulled over. Is there a certain jig head with eye angle that will go through thick brush best ?
  19. I've heard too that but am a little skeptical . Bass love crawdads and not many crawdads out there without pincers.
  20. Never heard of him but what a name.
  21. I dont rig the hook so it lays in the slot because it wont stay in place. YMMV
  22. I'm all out of likes for today. After reading all the replies I'm convinced that bigger hooks on jig heads are needed. My Neds are the back half of Yum Dingers . I use a lot of Dingers and have a couple hundred bodies .
  23. Could be. They were choking that tube and spitting up crawdad parts.
  24. I believe it was Stephen Hawking who sad "Bass fish ing is for dun der heads"
  25. Yes you can . I have experimented both ways. My favorite way to get a higher hookup percentage is to skin hook it on the side.
