  1. During the warm south Florida summer days, its during low light conditions. The first 3 hours and the last 3 hours before dark. They just seem more willing to bite. During the cooler months the bite will last longer and will actually get better as the sun rises. On bright days they will seek out shade and get tight to cover, its their substitute for sunglasses.
  2. 10/12/15, Monday, Alligator Alley north side, 7:00-11:00, mostly sunny, wind N/W 5-10, water very light stain, visibility excellent. Went out solo this morning, most friends were working. Started with a new spinnerbait with not so much as a sniff. Switched to a hollow body and slowed way down, no one was chasing baits. After an hour switched again to a 4" senko type bait. The bite started on the first cast. You had to let the bait soak to catch any. From 8-10 the bite was on. After 10 the switch turned off completely. Finish the day at 11:00 catching 18 bass, the largest a 6lb. and a 6.5lb and lost a monster way back in the pads.. There were also a bunch of 2's. Caught all bass on the stick-o back in the pads. A fun, low stress, enjoyable day without another boat in sight. A little bit of heaven.
  3. When the fish are schooling they will get into a feeding frenzy at times. They will fight each other for the food source and sometimes hook themselves on a long lure with multiple hooks. The long #11 rapala stickbaits with three treble hooks makes multiple hookups easy for bass in a feeding frenzy mood. This is a cruising wolf pack of medium size bass crashing bait fish.
  4. Nice video, thanks for the post.
  5. I have done it a bunch of times when I was throwing rapala stick baits and devil horses. I throw mostly plastics now and so it hasn't happened in a while. I did catch a small bass on a zoom fluke and a big bass tried to eat the small one. I pulled the two bass to the boat and the big one finally let go when I lifted the head up, it was never hooked.
  6. If you go to South Florida I would recommend captain Shane guide service. He is a great guide and a good person. You could do Okeechobee large mouth one day and Peacock Bass another. Shane is good at both. He has video's on line doing both. Catching a peacock is something for the bucket list! You will know immediately its not a normal bass.
  7. Down here in Florida, bass can spawn at various times if the conditions are right. There is a max time for spawning but you will see scattered beds several times a year. That's by far not a dumb question, but somewhere it took a hard left turn.
  8. Thanks for the report. Bass are clearly opportunistic. If it fits in there mouth, its on the menu! I once saw a baby duck following mother suddenly disappear in an explosion of water. Beautiful scenery in the background. It must be so peaceful.
  9. Welcome to the site. Fluke is a good choice, especially watermelon red, watermelon seed. Good luck and let us know how you do.
  10. Sunday 9/27/15, 7:00 - 11:00, MM39 Alligator Alley, North Side, water light stain, mostly cloudy, wind light. Went out early with Steve Johnson of Miami. For several months the bite in the glades has been tough. If I was catching the fish were on the small side. This trip we caught 10 between us, and the catch was bigger. I hope this pattern continues. I started with top water throwing a hollow body, chug bug, and swim bait. Even back in the pads there wasn't so much as a sniff. Started throwing plastics and once we slowed to a crawl the bite started. Big fish was over 3.5 pounds, and a bunch were over 2 pounds. A lot better then recent trips to the same area. Steve caught another monster mudfish close to 10 pounds. Another fun day in the heart of the glades.
  11. Big bass will eat baby gators, baby snakes, and baby water birds. At the Miramar dump lake I saw a baby duck disappear in an explosion of water. There were 8 of them that day, two weeks later only 3.
  12. Lou you are a master with the frog, on the alley. Nothing like time spent on the water. Still on baby watch, but some time I'll be back out there. Good luck and keep slaying them.
  13. Thanks Laquavous, I will follow your leads ad look into your suggestions. Thanks buddy for sharing.
  14. My son lives in Dunwoody and my daughter in Roswell, so I too would love to know a couple of spots for bank fishing. I have fished the river but it was so dirty and moving it was a waste of time.
  15. Fishing shallow southern compounds my whole adult life, I know they are full of nasty vegitation, wood, and lots of other stuff. Play with a fish instead of getting them in the boat quickly will only lead to big problems. It only take a bass seconds to bury themselves deep in the junk. Getting a good hook set ,and getting their head up is key to shallow water success. It didn't take KVD very long to learn that lesson.
  16. Unless you fish one of the aquarium lakes that dot this country, double digits are far from common to catch. You can certainly raise your odds by doing many of the techniques mentioned in the posts above, or by using live bait. Still many good anglers will fish years, without reaching the double diget level, with artificial baits. Big ones are out there, they didn't get big by being stupid.
  17. Great job Shane! You are the man. Classic frog hookups with a pause and then slam them. Your the best,. Hope to see more videos soon.
  18. There is also a good map of turkey lake on line. It has all the depth changes and shows key stops. Run off a copy and take it with you.
  19. I have fished turkey lake in Orlando 5 or 6 times and have always caught nice fish. The rental deal is the best in the country. Just make sure to reserve a boat. There are only 5 available for the whole lake. I have caught loads especially on the north side where a stream flows into the lake. Lots of bass on stick baits, flukes, trick zoom trick worms jerked off the bottom in deep water. Good luck, a Great Lake to fish.
  20. Down size and slow way down. Make short little jerks and then let it sit. If that doesn't work, just drag it and let it sit. They will eventually ce around to investigate . Be a line watcher and look for subtle changes in the line. Good luck!
  21. So sorry to hear about your situation. I am always amazed at the depth of the low life's that walk the earth with us normal folks!
  22. Fish early or fish late, nap in the afternoon.
  23. Josh gave good info on weightless fluke. Throw it out let in slow sink, jerk it and let it fall again. Fish the weightless Senko the same way. When in doubt slow down. They will flat out catch fish anywhere!
  24. Your welcome Zachb24, it's always nice to help another fisherman. Lots of good info on this site.
