  1. With the Blue Bird sky and sun over head the fish should be tight to cover seeking shade from the intense sun. Throw that senko in the thick stuff and just wiggle it and then sit, or pull out a swimbait like a Gambler E-Z swimmer and crank it through the pads. They are not wearing sunglasses so the best cover is pads, docks, weeds. Once the sun gets low I would hit the crankbaits along the weed lines.
  2. Glad you got the plastics out of that fish. Those plastics swell when left in the fish and will most likely block the digestive system. Its a slow death from starvation. That is why I never throw used baits in the water, and pick up any baits I see while fishing the banks.
  3. Several week ago I went to Loxahatchee and hooked a two pound bass that broke me off in the heavy weeds. He had my #3 Gama hook in his mouth and jumped three times trying to rid itself of the hook. Several hours later I passed through the same area again and caught a two pounder with my #3 Gama hook and a foot of Floro line attached. The odds of me catching that same bass still in a mood to eat with a hook attached was astronomical!!!!
  4. Great report, thanks for sharing.
  5. I'm sure this guy needs to change his underwear!
  6. Look into renting a house boat. If everyone chips in it will not be too bad.
  7. That gator tried to get a piece of him, and came dam close!
  8. Great job sharing! This is what makes these sites great! Thanks buddy.
  9. Start by filling out your profile so we all know what part of the country your fishing. Then reading your post it sounds like you found an area that has the right structure for holding decent fish. A bait like a spinnerbait with a Colorado blade might be a good alternative. It will catch bass in muddy water. Then I would move to find structure in cleaner water. Without knowing the temps or location I cant add much more.
  10. I would pick three. A prop bait, swim bait, and a spinner bait. I would use a drift bag to slow the drift. Let the wind work for you, don't fight it.
  11. I have a dear friend I fished with for over 30 years. Over those 30 years I fished with Tom Shaw almost every weekend. We fished all over south Florida and one little habit drove me nuts. If I was catching fish and Tom wasn't he would start whistling different songs and his whistling stunk! I would never say anything to Tom about it, because if he was whistling, I was killing them and he wasn't. I forgot to tell you, Tom was my boss, and the best boss you could ever have! We lost Tom a few years ago, and I would give anything to hear Tom whistling again in the back of that boat. There is never a day, or a trip, I don't think about my buddy! Friends like Tom are far and few between. Love you buddy!
  12. I don't have a Kayak but after fishing for 40 years in south Florida I would not like being approached by a ten footer at water level. I have had a gator aggressively come toward the boat and bump the trolling motor hard with its nose. Last year I had one follow us for 30 yards gaining ground as we trolled away. It came up along side the boat and slammed its tail into the side of the hull. Both happened on Alligator Alley during mating season. During low water levels we will see at least 50 to 100 gators each trip, you don't want to be in a Kayak at that time. Stay in your neighborhood lakes but not in the everglades. Down here they are like roaches, THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!
  13. The places in South Florida that I fish are either canals with constant depths or flats that are 3 or 4 feet deep and full of heavy weeds. A SI unit would be a total waste of money for me. If I was fishing deep reservoirs with points, old road, ledges, structures, and wood it might be worth it.
  14. 7:00 - Noon, Temp 91*, Wind SSE 10 - 15, Water Stained, Water Temp 79*, Bright sun. Went to Lox with Steve Johnson. We launched at Lox Road on the south end of the Preserve. We fished the spoil bank wall again this week, and traveled about 2 miles fishing the wall on the flat side. Steve caught a nice fish on the first cast and was thrilled. I told him that he might as well just take a nap, a fish on the first cast is bad luck! I threw a hollow body frog in the shallow weeds and had a miss by a big bass and then a hook up that came unbuttoned. I kept reminding Steve about the first cast curse. We both switched to plastic senkos and starting hooking up on a few keepers. We floated 2 miles with the wind to our backs, and then ran back to the starting point and did it again. On the second pass I caught a bass that had broken me off on the first pass. It still had my hook in its mouth and my fluorocarbon line attached. The chances of that happening were astronomical! We ended up with 12 bass boated. An unusual number of fish that came unbuttoned, and several big mudfish. Steve was plagued by the curse all day, and I kept reminding him! Next time just throw out the first cast and reel it in as fast as you can. It will prevent the agony of the curse being repeated. Lol
  15. I have heard this theory several times over the years. Predatory birds like eagles and ospreys, are sloppy eaters tearing apart fish with their beaks. It is very possible fish eggs would drop in the water and possibly live. Lots of our florida lakes are loaded with big cypress trees. It is possible, but at best it is a long shot!
  16. Forget it and move down the road. It might be two things. One, the lake might be so shallow that it periodically dries up. Two, it might be so shallow it get too hot and O2 low in the summer. Both situation = No Fish!!!!!!!!
  17. Nice job son. That's a nice solid fish anyone would be proud of. As young as you are that PB will be beat by you many times. Just spend time on the water, and your line wet!
  18. Loxahatchee Federal Preserve, 6:45-Noon, Weather - light wind out of the S/E, 83*, mostly sunny, water stained. I picked up a friend Dave, and we went to Loxahatchee Federal Preserve off of the ramps at Lox Road. We ran 100 yards to the shallow flat and started fishing the spoil bank. We stayed in the flats all day. Although the vegetation is a little thicker , it is totally navigable. We started catching right away, and although the fish were spread out, the bite was constant all day. Both Dave and I have not been out in the boat in weeks and it was great to be out catching. Although the fish were not big like in February, we did catch a bunch of hard fighting 1.5 bass. Almost all fish were caught on 4" senko type baits in watermelon shades. It was a fun day and Lox and the weatherman did not disappoint. The buzzards did not try to eat my truck this week. I tied plastic bags on my antenna for movement in the wind. I don't know if this really worked, but I will do it again until they leave with the snowbirds to return up north.
  19. Sounds like spraying. If its in an area with houses some homeowners complained to the association and they sprayed. Some people want a lake that looks like a pool with no vegetation. It kills fishing for quite some time.
  20. I once caught a red tailed hawk in mid flight. I was fishing the alley and made a long cast across the canal. A hawk flew out of no where and into my line, while the lure was in flight. The lure went up out of the water and into the wing where it meets the body. The Hawk dropped like a stone into the canal. I pulled the hawk to the boat on its back with the talons opening and closing. Luckily we had two big towels in the boat that we used to control the bird while we removed the hook. It was a weird day! I also caught the back end of a GMC S10 back when the Alley was a two lane road with dirt ramps. The GMC was in one of the cuts at a bridge. My crank bait was firmly attached to the tailgate . I notified FHP and the truck was removed several months later. I think someone dumped it at the bridge.
  21. If your going out of Holiday Park, run the middle canal all the way until the end. Make a right or left TURN and you are in the MIAMI CANAL. The canal runs north and south. I have not fished out there in years. Oscars were plentiful back then. They are a great eating fish, with white flaky meat.
  22. If they are not on the bedding flat yet, I would look for the closest drop off and work that area hard. Drop-off doesn't have to be deep just a matter of 2 or 3 feet will do. Slow down and work the drop off with a jig or big worm.
  23. Never, I don't fish tournaments! As a football coach for 40 years the last thing I need is competition on my days off. I fish because I love it, it is a form of relaxation for me, even on those slow catching days. Fishing is not just a completion, it is a way of life, a form of meditation, and a connection with nature. Nothing better then an early morning on a lake, hearing the birds coming to life, a big splash from a hawg, and a tug on my line. Sharing this with a friend, it doesn't get any better then that! You can keep the competition, I have had enough!!!!!!!!! Relaxation and having fun is my goal. It has worked me for over 40 years of South Florida Bass Fishing.
  24. So far it sounds like a nice trip. Double digits are not that common even in florida. They are there but they didn't get that big being stupid.
  25. Bassinhole, that was nice of you to share that information. It is what makes these sites as good as they are. Some great tips! Thanks again buddy.
