  1. Lets not confuse bass behavior with being smart or learned. Bass are not smart, and don't learn behaviors like bears or large cats. They have brains the size of a pea, and host of programed instincts. They have a variety of very acute instinctual senses. that control their behavior. This is not a learned behavior, but rather a programed behavior triggered by things happening in their environment. There are also far more juvenile bass in a lake, then the big ones. Whatever your doing to catch juveniles, the big fish will react the same way if you can find them, and pass it within their strike zone. There are just fewer big bass to trigger. Finding where they are that day, that hour, is the fishermans task. The great fisherman study those patterns, and eliminate unproductive waters, increasing their ability to succeed.
  2. Sunday 8/12/18 6:30-11:00 MM 41 Winds light Partly Cloudy No rain Water stained W/T 84* Went early with friend Roberto. From the ramps we ran west, then north, and then west again to the Indian Properties. We fished back to the east, and we might as well been fishing Chernobyl. We could not buy a bite for two hours. Then suddenly a suicidal bass about 1.5. We had two other friends out fishing the same area not far away. We went on a search mission and found them on the south side a mile east of where we were. The water was cleaner here, and the bass a little more cooperative. We fished behind the boys, shooting the crap, and catching a few more. Because of other obligations we left early at 11:00. It was hotter then hell, and storms were building to the west. Fishing was tough, but still better then sitting home watching the tube.

  3. There are so many variables. Is it windy, are you fishing a swamp or a reservoir, are the water levels high or low, what is the water temp and clarity, what type of fish are you targeting, types of structure in this body of water, is there current flowing, and recent patterns before this front. These are just a few variables that I would take into consideration before making a semi intelligent decision.
  4. That is the first I ever saw with just ethanol free. I believe all the new WaWA have ethanol free pumps. Just look before pumping. We have several in the Davie area.
  5. Big black worms, you can't go wrong!
  6. Bass are not shy to attack a real frog. If they are around bass will be in the area. With a good population of frogs, bass might just be full from feasting on them. I have seen bass busting tad poles during the hatch. Just slow down and make the presentation unresistable. Frog is on the menu!
  7. I only used them when I took my kids fishing when they were little. You will feed a lot of fish. But they will catch bass. I've also used maggots and put a bunch on one small hook. Catch rate was better.
  8. I fish the everglades all the time, and have for over 40 years. Water levels are up so your not going to have the crazy 200 fish days that come with low water levels. They are catching occasional big fish in the 6lbs and up size, usually early morning or late afternoon. All canals at about the same as when you fished them. Some top water, mostly plastics fished slow through these hot months. If your going to fish L67 I would put in along 41 out past the 20 mile bend, and run toward Holiday park and fish the cuts to the flats in the 3 pines area of L67. Big fish hang by these cuts. Also there are freshwater springs in this area with cooler water temps that attract bass all year round.. L67C is the small parallel canal next to the Big 67. I have a friend that still fishes it and has had good catch rates. They put a barrier about half way out with big rocks and a heavy chain across. If you running in low light be very careful for it. Also if you go you probably will not see another boat all day, so be aware if you have a problem. Alligator Alley is easy access with good ramps. I prefer the west side of the Miami River, and run toward the Indian Property to the west. The morning and late afternoon have been good. L28 is now blocked for access from 41, but you can access it from Alligator Alley with a new ramp. That is a north/south canal. The Holey Land has a good ramp, and 20 miles of easy canal to fish. If you find current flowing fish activity will be up. Holey Land is on the border of Broward county and Palm Beach county, go west off of Us 27. Loxahatchee Federal Preserve is west of US 441 at the end of Lox Road, on the Broward / Palm Beach line. It is a massive swamp, 20 SQ. miles, with a rim canal all around it. It has massive big fish, but you can only fish about 10% of it because of thick weeds. You do need a powerful T/M or a push pole to keep from getting stuck. There are many more locations but these are the ones I normally fish, that still hold decent fish and big fish in the hot summer months. Good luck and let us know how you do! I will warn you, take three times more water then you think you will need, just in case you have a problem out there. Dehydration will happen quickly, and WATER will save you life. Cell phone coverage is very good all over the glades, so have Florida Fish and Game #, and Florida Wildlife #, in case of needing assistance. I know how important this is from experience! Never leave home without these numbers! Lol
  9. Once you clear the palm trees and head straight out to open water and once half way out at idle, now you can draw a straight line to the opening on the west side and run. Once you idle clear of the divide canal head a straight line just north east of the pump station. If your not sure go half speed, or even idle speed.
  10. Great video Glenn!
  11. On the texas rig you might be using too heavy a weight. Texas rig using no weight or a 1/32 weight. Bury the hook in the plastic deep so it is snag proof. Then fish it slow with a slow drag for movement and long pauses. Be a line watcher an slight pressure even while sitting still. Use heavy floro or braid and a stout rod. Pause as long as 30 seconds while in the tree branches. This should be pretty snag proof.
  12. I personally would find another place to fish. But if you have too, spinning rod, flip and pitch where you can. I would not wade, too many gators, snakes, and now 16 foot pythons.
  13. The governor just mandated that they release funky Okeechobee water south instead of east and west to the ocean and gulf. This algae laden water will cause havoc with the everglades, Lox. and Sawgrass. Water levels will go way up, and pollutants will explode the vegetation. Fishing could get a lot tougher!
  14. Alligator Alley MM39 North Side Sunday 8/5/18 7:00 - Noon Mostly cloudy several brief rains Water Stained W/T 84.5* wind E 10-15 no current Went this morning with a friend and ran east to the dead end, and then fished back to the west. We both started with frogs. I used a Horny Todd, and Roberto a hollow body. After about 20 minute neither had even a sniff on the frogs. I turned to a fluke back in the pads, and soon had several bass in the boat. The fishing was slow but steady for a while. Unlike other trips to the same area, today the fish were not at the drop-off, but rather back in the shallow pad flat. After another hour I got into a bigger fish. Hooked a nice 4 pound beauty, and a couple of 2 pounders. We switch again once it slowed to a stick-o and u-vibe and both caught fish around and under the bridge. There were four other boats fishing the same area and we saw little action from them. One guy told us he had one decent 4 pounder and a couple of two's. Once the storms rolled in, we tied up under the bridge and sat it out. While sitting there we caught a couple more. We finished with 11 bass boated, several escaped by wrapping around the pad stems. Big fish was a 4 pounder. It was a fun day while the weather held.
  15. A day on Lake Erie with Dwight Hottie, catching those bronze bruisers would be sweet, but meeting Dwight would be enough. Dwight its Big G from FBN.
  16. In shallow thick weeds, don't allow any slack in the line and keep the pressure on and them coming to the boat. Don't allow any drag in the reel they will wrap you in a heart beat. Strong line and a stiff rod are must at getting them in successfully in the swamp. Head control is key. The head must be up! If you do get stuck on something , be patient and let them swim themselves out, and immediately put the pressure back on.
  17. Where we fish there are few grass edges because grass is everywhere. Not like Florida lakes, this is in the Florida swamps. Edges are only where there are canals. I will not pay big money for side imaging when it will not help me fishing. You are a believer and that’s good, but for me a waste of money, in the swamp.
  18. Lol, I turn it off as soon as I'm ready fish. These reservoir guys don't have a clue of fishing the swamp.
  19. Around the country there are lots of guys having tough days during these hot wet summer months After several days with big storms sometimes the water conditions can put them into lock jaw for a while. The water PH can get screwed up and it will take a few days to balance out, and the predators to go on the hunt. They will get hungry and eat again. Stay after them, you can't catch them unless your line is wet!
  20. Sometimes wave action will keep weeds close to shore from growing there, and create an inside weed line in shallow water. This happens quite often in Florida with all the grasses and weeds we have in our shallow lakes. I fish both inside and outside edges. Quality fish will often hang out on the inside edge. getting them through all that vegetation will sometimes be the problem. Heavy line, and stout rods, solves the problem.
  21. Not much, most of my waters are 3 or 4 feet deep in the swamp. I get water temp, the thermocline in the canals, and occasional cruising fish in the canals. Not much the cone can tell you when your in 3 feet of water and full of weeds. I use old fashion detection by looking for happy water, weeds moving not from wind and waves, bird activity, boils on the surface, isolated clumps of weeds, funnel points from wind blown current, clear sand patches, and that inner feeling you get when out fishing.
  22. During the morning launch, we saw 4 airboats with several workers on each. They were from Aquatic Solutions, written on the trucks, I'm afraid there is major spraying going on out there, and it has been going on for weeks.?
  23. It definitely has something to do with big sugar. They are calling the shots when it comes to following a money trail. Especially the trail of money to the elected officials. Big sugar and big dairy are the main players.
  24. I have done this a few times in the summer in south Florida to avoid the heat. Most of the time I get chased in by skeeters, they will eat you alive on a hot humid night. Use big black colored baits they put out the best silhouette against the sky. Big black worms, black buzz baits, big black zara spooks, Big black chatterbaits, and the whopper popper. As for predators coming out to play at night. I fish a 20 sq. Mile swamp west of palm beach Florida. During the day you might see 10 gators while fishing. At night you will see hundreds of big gators that emerge from under the thick vegetation that is everywhere. Truly amazing! Now we also have pythons up to 17ft. Swimming in the swamp with no fear of anything.
  25. Yes it is, if the pumps are running you can hear a mile away. Stump field is just to the west of that.
