  1. You can fish Turkey lake from the shore any time of the day. There are several fishing piers but I have done better just working the shore line. Again the boat rental is your best bang for the buck almost anywhere in the country.
  2. Well your in the right place. Go to Turkey Lake right next to Universal Studios. They have a deal with BPS and rent tracker boats for $35 dollars from first light to noon. There are 5 boats, and those are the only boats allowed on the lake. The lake has a bunch of good size bass in it. But you would have to reserve a boat as soon as possible or they will all be taken. There is a topo map online of the lake. I have fished it 6 times and always caught decent bass up to 6 pounds. If you get a rental P.M. me and I'll give you a bunch of other tips. It's the best rental deal in the entire country as far as I'm concerned. Turkey Lake is part of the Orlando Parks Department. If you go to their site you can get all the information you will need. I just looked at the date your going, but you're probably too late. Try as soon as possible you might get lucky! It's worth a try.
  3. Like everyone that fishes a lot, I have lost my share of big bass for one reason or another. It really doesn't bother me because I don't fish for money, and I feel so good just setting the hook and feeling the fight, I feel blessed. I know where she lives and always go back with the intention of catching her. Most of the time it doesn't work, but I few times it has. I always release her in good shape after a quick picture, so I can share the experience. I'm really just happy being out there, seeing nature in action, feeling that tug on the line, coming up with a solid pattern regardless of size, and sharing pictures and the experience with friends. It doesn't get any better then that!
  4. Don't worry about it. In the whole scheme of things bass have the brain power of snail. They are not very smart, and have little ability to remember much. They react to stimuli in their environment. If their hungry and the baits is in striking distance, they will hit it regardless of color, or size, within reason. You just need to get a bait within the strike zone and recreate a movement they would be used to seeing. Your job is to find them, and ones in the mood to eat, and recreate a movement they want that day. Don't give them more credit then they deserve when it comes to logical advanced thinking. It's not happening!
  5. I don't do it very often, but I will site for structure along a shore line. Like big boulders, wood, weed lines, rock drop-offs. i will sometimes see bass while looking for these other items.
  6. These guys are in it for a living to put food on the table. Most are struggling to make it. Don't poach their spots during the tournament. After the tx everything is free game. Is it legal, yes. Is it ethical, no. Enjoy watching them, and don't make their day harder!
  7. I usually call every trip when mother nature calls. When it's too hot, too cold, too wet, too windy, first sign of lightning, too dark, too crowded, zero bites, all these will cause me to call a trip. I do this to have fun, when there is no fun, IT'S OVER!?
  8. Not a problem with Florida bass, deep water is no more then 20 feet deep. Most caught in 4 or less feet. Enjoyed the read though!
  9. Holiday Park and sawgrass park in Broward county on US27 both have boat rental You would have to call to compare prices. For fishing results check the fishing forums.
  10. Thanks for taking the time and the heads up!
  11. Thanks Scott for doing this video and keeping us informed. Even at this present level if you don't know where your running, the lake can be dangerous in some areas. There are a bunch of rock walls that will take out a lower unit if your running the lake. If you don't know the area run at a slow speed or risk having a bad day. Clewiston area is especially dangerous. Anytime it drops below 13 feet you must beware.
  12. Alligator Alley MM41 7:00 - Noon light current east clear sky light wind W/T 75* Picked up a friend and we ran out west to the glades. We started with top water and got a lot of Gar action but little interest from bass. On the electronics you could see a mass of fish around every clump of grass or hump in the canal, Not knowing what kind of fish they were we started hitting these clumps deep. I picked up a few deep on a stick-o, and then killed them on a trick worm wacky rigged. The bass were two or three feet off the bottom and hanging close to any little humps on the canal bottom. I went through 2 bags of trick worms, and used a spinning rod and reel with 10 pound test. This made the fishing a lot more fun then a heavy bait caster. We finished with 43 bass landed, 3 big mudfish, and a few big Oscars. Not a bad day considering we were headed home by noon. The light tackle made the whole experience a lot more fun. My friend caught a few on a chatterbait deep also.

  13. I fish Florida 6 days a week for the last 40 years. I bank fish 4 days a week and have never waded one time. I have seen thousands of snakes over that time, and even had one go between my feet from behind. Scared the crap out of me, and i'm not afraid of snakes. Now we have 15 foot pythons on the loose. NO WADING for me! I have had gators charge the boat, slap the side of the boat with there tail, and nose the trolling motor. Breeding season is the time when they get a little hissy. Big males like their territory. You can get away with wading many times, but if your in the wrong place at the right time, your in a world of hurt. Pythons, Gators, Cotton Mouths, 100 pound snapping turtles, do you need more.
  14. Wish they just left it all year long!
  15. Dont like it, much rather have a nice grouper, snapper, or haddock.
  16. No problem, I like to see them out in the glades. We have gators bigger then the kayaks. I’d rather be in my bass boat, but each to their own. I have had a gator slap my boat with it’s tail, and many follow the boat for quite some time while fishing. Would not want to be in a kayak when seeing 100 adult gators a trip.
  17. I take plenty of water, always more then I'll usually need. You never know what will happen out there. For food I'll take PBJ sandwiches, and some cookies, or fruit. Keep it simple and easy to keep from spoiling.
  18. I don't know. I have not been out there in quite some time. Never knew there was a problem parking along 41 out there. I used to fish little 67 also.
  19. I fish from the bank at least 4 days a week. One thing I will suggest is wear a good pair of leather boots. I have been within 5 feet of snakes countless times, I have had a water snake go between my legs once and shocked the hell out of me. I not only find snakes in the glades, but in communities like Weston, and Davie. I'm not afraid of snakes, but know there in the area, and some are poisonous. Never fish with flip flops, or sandals in Florida.
  20. Use spinner, you can switch the handle for whatever feels better for you!
  21. Thoughts and prayer to him and the entire family. It will be a rough road for all involved. Just look for those small moments of joy, and spending quality time together. I wish you all the best, and miracles happen everyday. God bless my friend!
  22. Lived in Canton, Mo. for a year right on the Mississippi. They had big flood gates they closed to save the town from flooding. Serious stuff every spring.
  23. The best piece of advice I can give you is fish with as many different fisherman as you can. Join local clubs and fish with as many as you can. Be an observer and you will learn a lot of what to do and what not to do. Watch the techniques they are using when successful. Watch hand movements, pacing of retrieve, slack in line. length of pauses. Look for hook placement, rigging techniques, and all the little subtle tricks, color variations, size differences. While your doing your own thing, never stop watching them. Ask questions, but get most your information from observing. Fish with those that choose to use techniques that you don't normally use. You will learn something new everyday, and sometimes things to eliminate. The more you learn, the more you will realize just how far you have to go to be really good, and compete on a big time level. Good luck young man!
  24. As for temp variations, I'm sure we will have years of strange weather to come. I say that based on science!
  25. If I could I would go somewhere else. If I was stuck there I would use a black and blue swim jig.
