  1. 1.) I agree with all that said, slow Down! Most fisherman fish way too fast especially in difficult conditions. Slow down, Slow down and when you think its slow slow down some more. 2.) Find places where big fish would hang during difficult times. Look for drop off, close to large flats. Look for two or more types of vegitation in one location. This is always better then just one type of veggie. Look for small isolated crop of vegitation in an open area, this is always better then a large mass of greens. Look for birds in open water. Diving birds are always a winner. I areas with cypress, look for trees with nests. The sloppy eaters will draw baitfish under the tree and therefore big bass follow. 3.) It all depends on your water and what there feeding on. In South Florida I love senkos, flukes, and frogs in watermelon shades. Watermelon red, wm glitter, and watermelon seed. Use as little weight as the weather will allow. I often throw weightless. Black is another favorite color especially in low light conditions. Good luck out there.
  2. If your putting in from the SR41 side, I would run up the L67 to the bend. After the big bend you will see cuts every 1/4 of a mile on your left side. Go to the 4th big cut and fish back toward 41. I would fish the cuts hard and try all depths with a fluke or senko. Silver or Gold Rapala #9 or #11, chugbugs, and spooks have done real well in the morning. With a senko I would let it sink and work all levels right at the cut drop off. There are big bass out there. For some reason the pads on the opposite side across from the cuts have also been holding quality fish. Any watermelon fluke or senko is a good color. Work the cuts slowly and with repeated casts. Good luck on the BIG L.
  3. Great to live in South Florida. Beautiful peacock Shane, its amazing how they fight and how hard they hit a bait. You know the second they hit its not another black bass but rather something special. So glad they a coming back after the cold spell several years ago.
  4. I too have seen them six months ago righting tickets at Lox for speeding. Easy to do when your boat can do 70 and your not used to speed limits on big bodies of water. Does anyone know why they posted a limit?
  5. Just got another report from a guy that fished it yesterday. He had 5 fish for 24 lbs, and they caught a mess of dinks too. Don't run away out there in low light conditions. The gov. put a rock wall of boulders to block the canal. Not well marked. Good luck
  6. Wow that's a long time ago. I remember him.
  7. Little 67, or L67c is a narrow canal you must access from SR 41 at the 20 bend near the plane crash memorial. The canal has been partically filled in on the north east portion close to the Miami canal. You can not run all the way out there anymore. I got a report from a friend that fished it last week. Lots of small fish being caught right now. The canal has a small dirt parking lot and a good ramp. The canal is very narrow with sharp rocky walls. Stay in the middle to stay safe. I would go with another boat because it could be days before another boat comes . There are a few pad fields in the middle of the canal. Good luck if you go.
  8. There is no problem running all the way from Holiday Park to SR41, if the water is high enough. South west of the miami river there is a weir with a bouyee in the middle of the canal. Be careful there if the water is low. I have not been out there in over a year and they are doing changes in some of the everglades canals. That canal is 10 feet deep in most spots. There are some fresh water springs in the three pines area. Summer the water is a little cooler and in winter the water is a little warmer. This makes for good fishing. It is a long run that far south west. Dont pass up the Alley to the north. You can run north from L67 to the Alley. Some fantastic fishing at times, numbers can be unbelieveable with 200 fish a day possible when water is low.
  9. I fish from the boat on weekends and from the bank almost every evening. From the bank I look for points, drop offs and anywhere there is visible structure. A place with two or more types of vegetation is always a good target. Mixed vegetation is always better then just one type. In man made lakes in Florida, there is always a drop off with a depth change of 5 to 20 feet. Bass love to hug the drop offs and use them for shade and ambush points. On windy days bank fishing always allow you to fish slower and it is often more productive, at least for me. Always watch for weeds moving, a shaking pad or stick up is a great sign. Fish in stealth mode. Clear water will give away any sudden movement on the bank. Make long casts in ultra clear water. Our lakes are often loaded with weeds and pads so Texas rigged plastics are the way to go. I often throw weightless senkos, flukes, worms, centepedes, and frogs with good success. When fishing slow down. Many fisherman fish way too fast. Exceptions would be when they are crashing bait fish, or early mornings, or late evenings and night fishing. Good luck, I hope this helps someone out there.
  10. I have fished Lake osbourn in my boat and from the shore and caught nice bass both ways. The park allows lots of bank fishing areas. Before the big freeze several years ago Osbourn was loaded with peacock. They are starting to come back in good numbers. To the south you can go to lake Ida with a large park with good bank fishing. These two lakes are connected by 20 miles of canals that also hold quality fish. Your possibilities are endless. Get on google earth and check out all the lakes in your area. Good bank fishing all over the place. Take some senko type baits and flukes weightless and fish slow. You will catch fish in south florida.
  11. For sheer numbers the Alley is hard to beat anywhere in the country. Also look for development lakes or golf course ponds. Most are connected to the south florida water management system for flood control. Therefore all have bass and exotics in them. There is a load of lakes in Weston florida with loads of big bass. Im sure the west coast has a bunch also. I try to stay away from homes because you get hassled. Look for shopping centers and business parks with lakes they usually leave you alone. They almost always build in lakes to provide fill for the center. Big fish find there way into all those lakes through the culvert pipes. Find a pipe with current and you will hit a homerun. Good luck!
  12. I once caught a team Diawa rod and reel with a 5 lb bass still attached in 20ft of water. Looked like the combo was in the water for days. Fish was in good shape and released safe. It was like hitting the lottery.
  13. Like Geeman, I also really enjoyed Ikes Book. It was a interesting read about his life breaking into pro fishing. It also broke down some of the misconceptions about his personality.
  14. When your working you fish around your work schedule. So the answer is yes.
  15. Hey Mike Im George from Davie, Fl. I fish almost everyday. Lox, Holy Lands, Alley, L67 sometimes Ida or the O. Hope to see you out there. welcome!
  16. If you fish long enough, and often enough it is going to happen. I have done it several times and almost always with treble hooks. Usually a lure gets hung up and I try to rip it out. It flies back at me and imbeds somewhere in my body right to the bend in the hook. I have worn a deep diving crankbait and a #9 rapala stick bait to the emergency room one month apart. I tried the sting a pull method and had no luck. If you fish a lot it is going to happen.
  17. My most memorable experience was fishing with an old friend in the Everglades in April. We fished together for two days, and had a great time catching loads of fish and reminiscing old times. It had been several years since we shared the boat together. My best friend was in great shape and was planning several trips with his wife to some exotic locations. Three weeks later he died of a sudden heart attack. I am so thankful for that time we spent together, and never forget telling those close to you how much you appreciate them. You just never know what the future will hold.
  18. yes it is a limited access lake. It is also a catch and release lake. That's why the fishing has been so good , so long. If you go, don't miss an opportunity to fish it.
  19. I have fished heavy winds many times in south Florida, once above 20 MPH I use the wind as my friend. 1). Keep the wind to your back as much as possible. 2). Let it blow you down a bank, or canal. 3). always put out a drift sock. It will slow the drift way down, and allow you to approach silently, off the trolling motor as much as possible. 4). makes for an easy day of catching, don't fight it, just control it as much as possible!
  20. Lots of those small lakes and ponds have a good quantity of decent size bass in them. If you have access fish them, if not fish Turkey Lake right next to Universal. I know it has quality fish and a great boat rental deal. You will not be disappointed.
  21. I try for figure out what the fish want by fishing different weights and different speeds until I get something going. Livivng in south Florida our bass are effected by drops in water temp more then northern bass. Its December now so I down size baits and slow down. It has been very productive recently especially when bank fishing. With heavy vegitation and shallow water your stuck fishing plastics from the bank. I will dead stick it on the fall and then jerk and stop back to shore. Zoom centepedes in watermelon red have worked very well with many fish in the 4 to 8 pound range. Also trick worms fished slow have been productive. When you think your fishing slow, slow down even more. We are starting to see signs of bedding fish south of Orlando. Fishing slow will save many a nonproductive day. Good luck.
  22. My daugther moved to the Roswell area and I'm always looking for places to bank fish in the area. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.
  23. I have pulled up loads of baits over the years, from spinnerbaits to countless crankbaits. The weirdest on all was, I was fishing a shadrap on L67 in the Everglades. I broke off on a good fish and watched the fish jump several times trying to get rid of the bait. Next week I went back out to the same area about a mile away. I caught the same fish with the rap still attached. What are those odds. Why couldnt I be that lucky with my lotto tickets.
  24. Fished Alligator Alley MM 39 north side, Sunday 11/11/12, from dawn till 11:30. Water levels are still high and the bass are way back in the pads. You had to keep a close eye on your line for any movement and set the hook quick, or you would get wrapped. Water temps have dropped almost 20* in the last three weeks, Florida bass usually dont like sudden drops. Winds were high with a steady 20 MPH after 9:00. We put the sea anchor out and slowed the drift to a controlable speed. Most fish caught on zoom trick worms, watermelon glitter color. We caught 19 bass the biggest was 3.5 LBS. Not a bad day for high water conditions,
