  1. Here in South Florida we have thousands of canals of various depth. During a warmer time of the year, we had a violant thunder storm with heavy hail that lasted hours. The storm dumped loads of cold water and ice into the canals. That cold water went straight to the bottom of the canal and drove water low in O2 from the bottom to the upper reaches of the canal. The canals completely turned over in a short period of time. This killed thousands of fish of all sizes and the smell was awful. They were floating all over the Holiday Park area. The only ones happy were the gators. They feasted for weeks.
  2. SC Guy, way to get out there and make something happen.
  3. Thats why I moved to south Florida 40 years ago. Enough of that white crap. The worst was slush when that stuff started to melt. Was living in Northeast Ohio, I have not regretted the move for a second.
  4. Don't try to teach someone anything about fishing, when they think they already know everything!!!!!
  5. Ill ask the question again, what body of water were you fishing? Looks like Holeyland or Loxahatchee. Thanks in advance.
  6. Shane that is rare today. Don is a special guy for sure! Glad you got out in the morning and didn't miss a beat. Thanks again for giving me his number.
  7. Hard to beat a 4" senko type bait in watermelon red or Okeechobee, light weight, fished slow. Been working every night, big time!
  8. When I can't figure out what they want and how they want it.
  9. You could catch hundreds in a full day on Alligator Alley, in the Everglades. Its been on all January and most of February big time.
  10. Looks like two keepers in the boat. Congrats on both of them.
  11. My goals are: 1). Have as much fun as possible. 2).Share the experience with as many friends as possible. 3).Go out as often as the wife will allow, and she never said no yet. 4).Learn something new on every trip. 5).Leave for home as soon as it starts feeling like work.
  12. About 15 years ago, my son and I were out real early on L67 in the heart of the glades (The Pines Area) before first light. We were fishing quietly the only boat on the canal, and all of a sudden there was a high pitched roar of a big cat on the spoil bank islands next to the canal. Off in the distance there was roar about a mile away responding back. This continued for about 20 minutes, back and forth. We never saw the cat in the thick weeds but it was within 50 yards of our boat. We both felt so blessed to be there.
  13. For me, anything under over 1.5 is out of the dink range. It all depends where your fishing. At the stick Marsh a dink might be anything under 3. They have so many big fish.
  14. 3/1/14: Went to the Alley today and there was nothing but constant action. Used speed worms until I ran out. They were hitting it every cast. Then went to senkos and trick worms with almost the same results. This seems to be happening all throughout the Alley system. Right now if you want to catch 100 or 200 bass it just depends how much time you want to spend on the water. Not lots of big fish right now, but loads of bass pulling your line. Regardless of where you put in, the results are the same. Fun time in South Florida.
  15. I don't know where the Creek Outpost is, but I have fished the creek from the road west of the O, to the lake. Its a sandy bottom in some spots and did quite well with Zoom watermelon red centipedes. Texas rig with a 1/32 weight. I'm sure they would work in your area. Good luck!
  16. I'm sure you can find spots around commercial properties. They tend to care less if your on the property. Watch for snakes on the bank sunning themselves. I have run into several Cottonmouths recently in the Weston area. They tend to move less in this cooler weather. Ava Maria University in Collier County has several lakes to fish.
  17. The greatest thing Ive learned in my third decade of fishing is too slow down and down size when things get real tough. In my early days I fished way too fast most of the time. I thought I could make a fish come up and hit a top water any time, any day. It just doesnt work! They dont want it your way, they want it their way! Yes, there are days when a fish will hit a block of wood with a nail and then there is the other 80% of the time when you better know how to provoke them to play, and have faith in your ability. I will down size to a 4" senko, or zoom centepede and fish it slow with long pauses in between short jerks. I catch alot more fish now then years ago.
  18. KVD, day in and day out the best in the business.
  19. I would look for sand bottom, especially white sand bottom.
  20. I fished with a guy at the famous Stick Marsh in Sabastion, Fla. It is 3 feet deep with thousands of stumps and lay downs everywhere. I was throwing a senko, and he was using a KVD 2.5. I could not believe how this thing worked its way through all that junk without getting hung. For every fish I caught he caught 3 on that crankbait. By the end of the day we were both throwing KVD 2.5's.
  21. 1).Florida 2).Florida 3).Florida Not only do you have great bass fishing year round, with hundreds of lakes, and the Glades, but you are surrounded by the Ocean and all it holds and don't forget the Keys. No other state can match that! The Fishing Capital of the World!
  22. I would slow roll a big Colorado blade spinnerbait, in the dirty water. They may not see it but they sure as hell will hear and feel the vibration.
  23. If your fishing plastics like senkos, worms, and flukes you have to be a line watcher for the slightest movement. Then take up the slack and then set the hook. Line watching is extremely important.
  24. Sunday 2/23/14, Alligator Alley MM39, partly cloudy, water levels low. Went out today with another member of the site. Things started slow and then picked up considerable. Lots of small fish but not the numbers from last week. Ended up with about 35 small bass, the biggest about 2 pounds.
  25. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while!
