  1. Glad you mentioned that, if you run that canal west there is a low spot in the middle of the canal right at one of the bridges on I 75. When they built I 75 they dumped a bunch of road debris in the canal. I have heard of a guy losing his lower units during low water conditions. I think it is the second bridge on I 75, west of the park. If you have a depth finder you find it. You may find a bunch of fish hanging around all that junk in the canal. Be careful and good luck.
  2. If your using the ramp on the north/south canal that parrellels the Saw Grass Exp. be careful, don't back down too far, super slimmy. I got stuck on that ramp once and luckally a group of guys came along and helped me get back up the ramp. Had to stay on the brakes to keep from sliding all the way in. I am very careful on that ramp now.
  3. I use overhead sets 90% of the time on Texas rigged plastics. The exceptions would be Carolina rigs and when fishing under overhead branchs. When I side set a hook I have to reel like a scalded dog to keep the fish on. The hook set just isnt as good as an overhead set.. I love EWG hooks, especially since I'm throwning thicker baits for their size. They work great on senko type baits.
  4. Mine would be Bobby Bowden of FSU. He is one hell of a quality guy, full of endless stories. It would be none stop laughter.
  5. Another great thing about the alley is you can always tie up under a bridge and sit out a bad storm that pops up. Any time there is a iffy weather forcast I head for the Alley. I have sat out a few storms out there. Even caught a few decent bass while tied up under there.
  6. My favorite show by far was the old Hank Parker show with his kids, and the first wife Angie. The kids were so polite, and well behaved. He was always fishing with the wife and kids. I thought he was the perfect family man. Well, everything is not always what it seems. New show is not half of what the old show was. Kids are all grown, and new wife to boot. One thing for sure, nothing stays the same. The only sure thing in life is, constant change. I sure miss that old show.
  7. I have been fishing an old super fund dump sight that was one of the worst in the country. It has been closed for twenty years and is now a county park, with two nice size lakes, loaded with some quality big bass. You don't have to worry about people keeping the fish, if they have half a brain. The ones that don't obey the warning start glowing in the dark!
  8. Go for it guys. The Classic Skunkarama, and a Skunker of the Year Award. Competition should be tough, but I'm sure someone will stink up good! Bad luck and may the best man fall.
  9. For some time the lake was a gar and mudfish heaven. That is great to see all the hard work is paying off. Its a nice option for fishing, and not too far away.
  10. In Florida we lost a tournament fisherman on Okeechobee this summer. There is no tournament worth staying out on the water during a storm. They should require all tournament guys off the water when there is a threat. If you don't come in your disqualified.
  11. I was fishing from the bank in Weston, Fl.. I caught a one pound fish, unhooked it and dropped it next to the bank into the water. This is when the problems started! The fish took a quick right turn and swam directly into an old Lays Potato Chip bag that was in the water. The only thing sticking out of the bag was the fishes tail. He couldn't see anything, could not dive with the bag, and could only go forward. This is when he headed to deep water. The chip bag was all over the lake, tail was going a mile a minute and the fish had no idea where he was headed. Luckily it made its way back to my bank. For ten minutes I tried to remove the bag with my rod tip. I would try to move it off, and he would swim forward and back into the bag. Finally it got close enough for me to grab and he was finally free. It was one lucky fish. If he went the other way he would still be wearing a chip bag, and he could be the first fish with a product endorsement deal!
  12. In Florida For shire numbers of big fish caught, I would go with the Stick Marsh/Farm 13, in Felesmire, Florida. An incredible number of double digit fish up to 15 pounds, are caught each year. It is a catch and release lake, and I do believe they don't allow tournaments. You can't even put a fish in your live well without a stiff fine. It is a very shallow body of water full of stumps in a large section of the compound. If you blindly run around you could lose your lower unit. The people that know it love it. The fish of a life time lives there!
  13. What a beautiful place. It looks like it could be somewhere in Carolina. A little piece of heaven. I love that tree house above the picnic area.
  14. So sorry to hear that news. Thoughts and prayers go out to Mark and his entire family.
  15. Go to page#4, Recommendation for a Yamaha Mechanic. This guy services all types of motors.
  16. Shane, you can't beat the glades right now anywhere in the country, for numbers. I bet you and the three guys had ear to ear smiles all day long. Congrats buddy!
  17. The BPS plastics and zoom products are as good as they get. I have used senkos and find them over priced and the results are the same as the cheaper varieties. Don't over pay for the same results.
  18. Florida guys there is a free site put out by the u. of Florida with topo maps on 100 of the states most popular bass fishing lakes. I always go there when fishing a new lake.
  19. A 4" senko weightless will get them, fish it slow.
  20. Good info about the angle of the sun and warming the water. Also most cold front weather comes from the northwest and the north west section of the lake is often protected by the bank of the lake, hills next to lake, forests along the north west bank. This all helps shelter the water in this area. The south end gets the full effects of the cold fronts and their winds.
  21. Almost every body of water will have gators from time to time in South Florida. For the most part they leave you alone. Have had a few friendly one recently. They do get territorial during the breeding season and make for some interesting situations. In an area with big gators, I want a bass boat to truly feel comfortable with these big lizards. One put its head and front feet in the boat of a guy fishing the alley last week. Good luck if you go in a tube.
  22. I listen to music all the time while fishing. With Pandora and blue tooth it is so easy with an unlimited amount of choices at your finger tips. I love it just loud enough for me and my fishing partner to enjoy, without imposing on others. When bank fishing I use ear buds to enjoy the experience. It helps me concentrate on my fishing. I never listen to the same music day after day. I wonder if the ones apposed to music in the boat ride around all day in the truck with the windows down, listening to the road. I doubt it! But I do believe in everyone's freedom of choice. Each to their own!
  23. Years ago I was fishing L67 in the three pines area. At one of the cuts to the flat there was a wolf pack of one pound peacocks sitting in the opening to the cut. My buddy Tom and I were throwing Chug Bugs and Rapalas, killing them one after another. There had to be at least 20 of them going nuts chasing baitfish and anything you would throw in the cut.
  24. Sunday 3/23/14, Another outrageous day on the Alley. Water is down some and its almost every cast. Not allot of big ones but plenty of action. Just pure fun! Over a hundred between 8 and noon. Big senko bite.
  25. Great looking fish. I'm sure your heart was pumping when you landed that Hawg!
