  1. Hey guys, I just bought a home on a canal in Sunrise and want to build a dock. Anyone ever done this before? How did you sink the posts? I'm a little worried that there's going to be very little substrate before hitting limestone. Thoughts?
  2. There's a lake in Deerfield Beach that I haven't fished since October. It's my go to for catching Snakehead and I'm thinking of going up there tomorrow. Anyone catching those toothed creatures right now? Is it worth the 40min trip or should I stick to LMB around my way?
  3. Bueller, Bueller....
  4. Something about the way they destroy topwater. I love catching snakehead from my kayak. This is my first full year in S. FL. When does the bite pickup enough to be worth going out and targeting them.
  5. I've got Friday off and I'd like to hit some new areas in Broward. Anyone want to tag along? Also any suggestions on kayakable canals or lakes that are producing are welcome!
  6. I have a canal a 30 second walk from my house. After lying low for the heat of the summer, the fish are finally biting. I'm new to S. Florida so I have no experience fishing canals. I have caught 4-5 dinks on a weightless fluke but nothing with any size, even though i see them in there. So...how do you approach these featureless canals? Would a large texas rigged worm be a good idea?
  7. This can't possibly be a real post, can it? Where in Florida? Freshwater lake?
  8. Just wanted to give a little report. I'm fishing in the East Miramar/Pembroke Pines area and have done increasingly well with the Bass this past week. Hooked up with several on a topwater frog on Sat and then again on Monday, and landed a couple pea's on a weightless fluke. Went out this afternoon (4:30ish) and got 4 decent LMB in about 30 minutes on a weight less fluke. Not much better than reeling in the slack after a pop, pop, pause and feeling deadweight on the other end - set the hook and game on! Tight lines!
  9. If you could only use one topwater bait for the next year which one would it be? I use a Booyeah Pad Crasher Jr. as my go to topwater and have decent luck but I was curious what everyone else's go to is...
  10. Thanks! Anyone else?
  11. I have found a launch spot for my kayak in a small canal surrounded by homes. I think this is a promising spot and it is super close to my house. Being new at Bass fishing I still struggle on how to approach fishing spots. Imagine you put it at 7am, it's 75 degrees and mostly sunny. You start with a topwater? Then what? I know this is hugely dependent but it would be nice if I could get a general idea of how you approach I'd really appreciate it.
  12. Have parents coming down to visit from Virginia and would love to show them some real Florida sights. Anywhere with a good chance of seeing gators?
  13. The last few times I have gone out fishing for snakeheads I have used a Booyeah Pad Crasher Jr. and have had pretty good results but I'm not all that experienced with these fish. The down side of these frogs are the price tag. I have to replace a frog every trip or trip and a half and if I lose one in a snag it's a $5 loss. I have used Zoom Toads but I feel like the hook up ratio isn't as good and I have a hard time hooking them up. Seems like I'm adjusting the hook to make it weedless every throw. So what do you guys use for snakehead? Some type of hollow frog, zoom(what size hook), something else? Bonus: Does color matter?
  14. I woke up this morning at 4:45am to meet Pottymouth (Florida Sportsman forum) for some offshore fishing. Get to Dania to put the kayaks in the water and "****". 2-3ft seas and building, 10-15knt winds. Rob says we can fish but it won't be fun so I decide to head to a lake in Deerfield Beach to try my hand at Large Mouth. I start with topwater and work this wooded shoreline for an hour. No bites. Nothing. I don't like fishing for an hour and getting no feedback so I decided to pack it in, and head across the water to where apartments are to try for some Snakehead. In the first 5min I catch a small LMB. Wouldn't you know it, stop targeting them and start catching 'em. Got on two more Peacocks in almost back to back casts. About 30 minutes later something blows up my frog. I'm thinking a nice Pea is on the line and are getting pretty excited when it comes out of the water. Nice Bass! When I get it boated I realize it's my largest bass to date! "How large" you ask? Well my wife is a teacher and took my scale to work for some school project so I'll never know. I'm not saying I looked in to a trial separation but lets just say I cleared my phone's history when I calmed down. Put him back in the water, boated another Snakehead and called it a day around 10:00.
  15. Title says it all. What's your favorite month for LMB fishing and why?
