Definitely the newbie as at the moment I do not catch many fish but I can successfully catch anything else laying on the bottom, but part philosopher as I just enjoy being out there..... being terrible!

Thanks for the welcome, fishing on the pole is big back home although i don't use one myself i can't see the fun in a piece of elastic playing the fish instead of a rod and reel, but i have never used one so that is just from observation. They are very popular with match fishing due to the speed you can land the fish, although i do often fish for carp and as i understand the tactics are similar to cat fishing here.

Hello everyone, I stumbled upon this site while looking for fishing spots and thought I would sign up. I'm new to the area (Richmond, Virginia) and the states as I have just moved here from England and now trying to find my feet here. The fishing between the two countries is quite different so I'm still trying to pick up tips for some success over here. All though truth be told I was never that good at it at home but enjoy it a lot and the scenery here is amazing, hopefully I can start picking things up and put the things I learn to good use! I'm going to try my luck this weekend on the James river so any tricks and tips would be great.
