  1. Ahh that makes sense with the price increments. My local shop who only sells Penn Shimano and VS, Has had just as many returns of the Spinfisher as the Battle. Many different issues. He said bad bearings, grinding, clicking, bad line rollers nicking line and the infamous bail closing. As far as the bail closing he said its all the models of Penns last few years.
  2. Double Quote lol Didnt they replace the Spinfisher with the Conflict?? I may be wrong but if so, hows the Conflict? I dont know too much about that one and price isnt bad at all.
  3. Or go balls to the wall and get a Van Staal? Thats prob the best option but very costly jump from a Battle. Ive been using a Sustain 6000, the 5000 comes with a kickstand which could help abuse on jetties. OP he made a good point on durability but at same time if you take care of your stuff it will last. Have numerous Shimano Baitrunners that have been dropped, submerged, banged against rocks, boat rash etc. Routine maitnence and they work like day 1. The new Thunnis is a BEAST as well. *edit also the bail closing early on casts, was a majority of the Battles. So even if he swapped out chances are he'll still have that issue. I lost some good lure because of it.... It's a reel that if it didnt have these problems would be a no brainer and I would own them again.
  4. I was just wondering if muscle memory is the comfort thing people including myself experienced. Many years holding the rod in the right hand and reeling left, then the jump to baitcasters later on,your body needs to readjust all over again... Its what works for me as I said before, using lefty reeels. But I'm sure given enough time anyone can do either combination and be efficient.
  5. Had the reel, its junk, which is unfortunate because Ive had many Penn reels for salt. Mine did same exact thing as well as bail closing mid cast. Not to go brand specific but return it get a Stradic FJ. Easy to find one for a good deal on the web. You will not be disappointed. Quantum Smoke inshore, Cabo and Boca all seem to have a good track record from friends who have them as well.
  6. Like it alot, casts good and has alot of power. The 7 for example I use for Spinner/Chatter/Buzz baits. I could pull chatter baits through heavy heavy weeds no problem. Just keep cranking.
  7. Righty who uses Lefty reels here. Grew up that way as well. Theres no right way to do it, but i will say we get shafted. Some compaines only make certain reels or no reels at all in lefty.
  8. Always been a Shimano fan for reels, but like what Daiwa has been offering. Especially for the ridiculous deals! Rods, really digging the 13s now but still like to try other stuff. Would love to go to all one series of reels and series of rods in the future.

  10. On the news the other day, this year alone 12 of the top 15 manufacturing companies in the USA have or will be going out of the country. Here it's a 40% corporate tax on large companies places like Ireland it's 4%. Not even worth it to go to China anymore because the demand is so high.... Anyhow if everyone including myself stopped complaining amongst friends about out of the country manufacturing and started complaining about the corporate tax that's driving these business' out, to their senators. Maybe we'll see a reel company here in the future. $0.02
  11. for a lure he mentioned
  12. A big F YOU directed at the bait monkey!!!! Lmao omg I saw the roman made baits. That's way out my price range. I have a bunch of $30 range plugs for surf fishing so I can't complain up to that price point. But $80 I can't see myself spending that. I just really want different top water options.
  13. $80!!!!????? Holy expletive!
  14. Thanks gonna check that out! No one, I mean NO ONE throws big stuff up here. If these work for me on this particular body of water I'll be a pig in $#!^. Last tourney I tanked and guy won with 5/5 11lbs... smfh
  15. Green Flash which is a DSG exclusive color, wacky rigged with a size 1 Mustad double wide hook. Go through about 3 bags of worms and 3 packs of hooks each outing, but manage a limit fairly quick on lakes, not so much rivers. Anyhow I throw em on a ML rod wacky rigged. Cast and do nothing, once line starts moving I sweep to the side slow and steady to get the hook into the corner of the mouth. My hookup ratio has been 99.9999% Using the double wide hooks not only did my hook up ratio skyrocket but I stopped gut hooking them. Edit* Refer to my avatar lmao
  16. I'm just thinking maybe a wake bait of some sorts, to alternate with spooks and poppers
  17. Senko! Finally got a color I have confidence in as well as technique!

  19. There's a body of water up here I have numerous tourneys at. Typically top water and jigs work well, I was thinking about trying this bait as none of the guys fish it. What line is recommended and what type of retrieve. Thanks
  20. Big bite baits are usually 5 for 5 at DSG. If you have quality jigs then these could be a great alternative. The jig itself is doing most of the work, most trailers provide the same result, for me anyways.
  21. Good mono lines Ive used on Spinning reels and for top water baits, that may suite your needs, Sufix Elite, Spider Wire Ultimate Mono, Seaguar Senshi. All under $10 for a spool to try out.
  22. These are all the same size, Citica and Curado G's and Chronarch E's
  23. I want oe but they dont make it in lefty, so my answer is YES! BUY IT!
  24. I called Shimano the other day they said they could only send me 2 anymore would be .99 each. Well just got about 30 from them in the mail. All set now!
  25. Definitely used the right sized bearings but some of the reels had 2 shims in 1 knob and 1 in the other. Or 1 in 1 and none in the other. All the knobs with 2 shims are fine. Unless I dropped them and didnt see them, thats my story Im sticking to. lol
