  1. Good advice, thanks. My father in law is constantly warning me away from mercury motors. Mercs are the only option on these. Are they decent motors, or should I try and trade it out with a Johnson/evinrude or something else?
  2. The wife has given me the go ahead, and a bass boat is in my near future. I gave up on used boats, the few I found in my area had serious defects, one motor needed a rebuild and two cracked transoms. Other sellers wanted crazy new prices for ten year old boats. I never seriously considered an aluminum boat until sitting in, and then researching one of the Tracker 170 TFs. The boat seems loaded with standard options, I would upgrade a few things, and even consider adding a bimini top to shade the kids. The standard motor is a 40hp, but the 50 or 60 is not crazy expensive to upgrade to either. Anyone have good or bad stories about this boat?
  3. I want to buy an aluminum bass boat, maybe one of those 17' Trackers, and I'm going to get it with vinyl instead of carpet. 95% of the time I will be in fresh water, but want to venture once or twice a year into the back bay in southern NJ to do some crabbing. I'm worried about the salt from some of the posts I've seen here an elsewhere. Is this just a bad idea, or will it be ok if I thoroughly wash it and flush the motor afterwards?
  4. Which is the better option, a carport or a cover? I have heard that covers will create moisture and lead to a lot of mildew.
  5. Hire those river logging wizards from Ax Men to pull some out. Nothing ever goes wrong with that cracker jack crew.
  6. I wish I had a secret spot. I live in the northern VA Ant Hill, and nearly every place I go is a mess of trash, discarded night crawler tins, a snarl of string and illegals that don't have driver's licenses let alone fishing licenses.
  7. Not only fish somewhere else, go live somewhere else. The way it sounds, and the way you talk about it, it sounds like a dangerous confrontation is imminent. Walk away and don't go back. I have only had one incident where I feared harm, and avoid that place like the plague now.
  8. Ebay will save you a lot of money. I saved $70 on mine. Be sure to pick a well known seller with good feedback. After listening to the folks on this site I finally bit the bullet and got a pair of Costas. 580 G Green Mirror. I am underwhelmed with them. Maybe I got my hopes too hyped up after the way some of the guys on here go on about them...The glasses are nice, but after staring and comparing for a couple of days, I prefer my Oakley G30 Polarized lenses. The Oakleys, To My Eyes, are clearer, no annoying amber tint to everything, and they fit better. You can find a pair of Oakley Half Jacket 2.0s or Flak Jackets with G30 or Prizm Shallow lenses (exactly the same tint as costa 580G green mirror) for comparable costs. Check around on ebay or BPS. There is a pair of KVD Flak Jackets with the Prizm Shallow Water lenses on Ebay right now for $159...
  9. Man, I wouldn't dare throw one without 1000lb test braid...
  10. ^ Helpful... I have one, but topwater bite has not even started for me. I still played with it a while, and expect great things. Good luck.
  11. I pick up a ton of lead, reuse a lot of it. My pond has some joker that loves to just leave his torn up senkos and yamomoto cut tails, on the ground. I gather them all up and use mend-it on them. Has saved me a ton of money.
  12. The Cane Toads are great baits. A bit bulky, but a unique profile compared to a lot of the other soft plastic frog baits.
  13. Netflix.
  14. Weird, I just came across these for the first time today. I was gonna pick some up, but grabbed some TRDs instead. Guess I'll be heading back tomorrow...
  15. Awesome review, sir. As soon as I can afford them, I'm grabbing a set of Prizm Deeps.
  16. I bought one, can't wait to use it. Snowed all afternoon here. May never get to use it at this point. >:(
  17. Could be that, or a dying minnow too.
  18. Totally missed the question. There's a lot of coontail, a little bit of early string algae, but other than that, not much in the way of above water cover. Water was stained greenish brown, visibility was maybe twelve inches.
  19. Take a look at the Jackall Pompadour. The current Heddon crazy crawler is 2 &3/8inches 5/8 ounces. The Pompadour is 3inches and 3/4oz.
  20. Sometimes it's called Easter Egg.
  21. No idea...Just throw one in there over night and see what happens.
  22. I would name him Billy Joe.
  23. I don't think it's a striper, this was found in a 10 acre pond that's only a few years old.
  24. It looks like a tiny bass, but I've never seen that coloration before.
  25. This little guy jumped right into the bank trying to escape something today. Don't recognize it. Any ideas? Its back was a lot more purple in real life...
