  1. Here I sit anticipating tomorrow's hunt. The last time I hunted was 1982. I hope my grandson takes a good one. I also hope to gain personal knowledge on the application of mechanical broadheads. Good luck to you all.
  2. I have several Convergence rods that I bought from Shimano reps. The only one I ever broke was one I was trying to dislodge a snagged crankbait with. I still use them on occasion. Good luck with whatever you choose.
  3. Welcome, Sean. Hopefully , you'll learn a lot here. Tight lines.
  4. Welcome, Aaron. You've got some great water to fish down there. Hopefully you'll learn a great deal from some folks here. By the way, isn't Denver, Hank Parker's hometown ?
  5. DVT will do you a good job. Contact Mike with any questions. He's done a few for me and I'm well pleased.
  6. I agree. I have an 18 foot Lund and am replacing a 55# thrust with a 70#.
  7. Congradts on the new PB !! nice photo of her.
  8. I whole heartedly agree, Scott. Joe will even admit that he knows better. I guess he mustn't have had much time to think rationally. I've yet to surprise a sow with cubs. I can't say for certain exactly how I'd actually react.
  9. Last evening my son-in-law took their garbage can down to the end of the driveway. He continued to walk down the railroad tracks to check on some of his trail cameras. He heard a scuffling noise and looked up in a cherry tree to find a cub climbing. He momentarily watched, then heard sounds of something running through the underbrush. Momma ran out on the tracks and charged Joe. He turned and ran she must have figured she had protected her cub from harm and didn't chase too far. This morning the trashcan was overturned and garbage3 scattered everywhere. Now none of the grandchikdren are allowed to venture down on the railroad tracks.
  10. Rick Clunn.
  11. This trip worked out much better than I figured. This afternoon, the girls asked if they could clean the boat . I of course agreed. Now the carpet's all swept, the seats are Armor-alled and the storage is all re-organized. Ya gotta love that.
  12. One granddaughter caught a 1-14. That was the only fish we caught. If laughing and giggling is any indicator though, the trip was a total success. I got to make a grand total of maybe a dozen casts. They're all ready to go again the next time. Even my wife was laughing and carrying on with them. All in all a very enjoyable afternoon and evening................ By the way, Dwight , I told Kit and she just smiled.
  13. My son-in-law also raised another question. He told me that he'd read that using such sprays on Scent Blocker type clothing, clogs the pores in the carbon particles, reducing their effectiveness. Has anyone else heard of this situation?
  14. Tomorrow I get to take my two oldest grandaughters out on the boat. I don't know who's more excited. My wife's going as well, she's even buying a liscense for the occasion.
  15. Have any of you bowhunters a recommendation on scent elimination sprays? This is all new territory for me. Thanks for the input.
  16. Thanks, guys. With the restoration after the flood, it was just nice getting away from it for a bit. I hope to squeeze in a boat trip this week. My oldest grandson is chomping at the bit.
  17. Once again I slipped away for a couple hours and bank fished a local lake. Generally around this time each year most folks here have given up on slop - choked water. I agree that it can be a pain to fish such conditions but also some of the most fun. Throwing a white Sizemic Toad on a 3/0 round bend Mustad hook seemed to be just what they wanted. The floating mat is so thick that birds walk on it. I missed quite a few fish but seeing some of them burst through that mat and smack those toads was a lot of fun. I landed 13 and missed at least half that many. The bigger ones were in the two pound class. All in all a good morning.
  18. Mann's Sizemic Toad in the floating colors, White and Southern Toad.
  19. Welcome to the site, Chuck. It's always nice to see more folks from PA join in. I'd check out some of the less expensive combos that Dicks's puts together. I have one of the Pfleuger President spinning reels that I bought there on sale and it suits my needs just fine. Bass Pro and Cabela's also offer rod and reels combos. I'd check them as well. Good luck.
  20. I really enjoyed your account of the fishing. It put a smile on my face. I wish you much more success in the future.
  21. Okay, folks, I'm new to hunting with a crossbow and mechanical broadheads. my question is: ...........is there any difference between broadheads for crossbows and conventional compounds? I read on this forum about the G3 heads. They seem to be popular with quite a few fellas here. Thanks for your input.
  22. Larger sized lizards work for me............This year I'm getting more familiar with jig fishing. It seems to be true that they're a bigger fish lure.
  23. Thanks for the tip, Hookset. I'm a Lunker City fan but have completely missed these. I'll have to give 'em a try. I've been rigging my wacky worms on the VMC weedless wacky hooks. They work very well for me....................................tight lines.
  24. I've just recently gotten into jig fishing after avoiding it for decades. I bought some Rage Tail Craws and tipped those jigs. My buddy asked what I was using. I told him. He asked me to pick up a bunch for him the next trip I made to the store. He's been having comparable success. Steve Parks has designed a great product. he's made me a believer. Thanks, Steve.
