  2. Hey guys, for those of you guys who don't know what "Who Wants in" is than check out one of our competitions from the fall... http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/125606-who-wants-in-october/ I'm planning on having the first competition for the month of March... I started this topic to see if there are any new guys who want to join in and if anyone wants to comment of the format of the competition. Hopefully we can get some new guys to join in on the fun and hope to see some impressive numbers this year!
  3. It's as simple as not spending that much money for a lure, some Roman made's go for $400+ I believe...
  4. I saw that!! Absolutely INSANE!
  5. Flippin the bird is a great frog, I'm not sure they have them at BPS but they do at TW... I know they have KVD sexy frogs and River2Sea Spittin Was ast BPS those are both good frogs... You can always go with a rage toad as well!
  6. I'm gunning to win my high school championship this year as well, we got 3rd in the qualifier and 6th in the championship last year... I also would like to break my PB LM (6lbs 5oz) and SM (3lbs 8oz) this year, I set new ones last year in both categories... Get better and have fun of course!
  7. I've caught bluegill on topwater with trebles, but not a frog!
  8. And we will use 50+lbs line for MAYBE a 6lbs fish haha... Obviously its totally different though...
  9. It depends on how fast you won't the fall of your bait to be, how fast you want to fish the bait, and whether you in 10 or 20 ft... If I had to make a GENERAL suggestion for that depth I'd say 3/8oz
  10. Fantastic pics, love the last two!!!
  11. Just watched that!!! Looks like a ton of fun, solid reds too! I'm going to have try this when I head down!
  12. I remember when I caught my first musky...
  13. Catches me lots of 3 to 4 pounds bass, my biggest on this particular lure is a 4lbs 1oz LM
  14. That'd be cool for a practice facility!
  15. WELCOME
  16. White for sunny (light) black for cloudy (dark) days.... My favorite frog is "flipin the bird"
  17. Sounds sweeet
  18. Whether the angler is trying to imitate a certain baitfish or not, the fish still looks at the lure as if it is some type of forage or something that is really irritating them. I'm just trying to answer his question, what were lures designed to do? - Catch fish, how will we get a fish to have a go at something artificial? Make it look like what a bass eats... Of course lures have evolved tremendously, now we have a number of ways to catch fish, some are designed specifically to match baitfish and some just flat out catch fish. Even if you don't believe in "matching the hatch" it doesn't hurt to do so, even if your not matching a specific type of forage and the fish eats it, that fish may have thought he was eating a craw when you were trying to imitate a perch.
  19. For me Baitfish: bluegill, yellow perch, golden shiners, shiners... Other: Craws, newts, frogs, mice... And of course the bird In my opinion the most important to imitate (for me in my area atleast), is a craw, or a bluegill... You can do so with crankbaits, texas rigs, swim jigs, jigs, etc. You can imitate the craw with even more ways than the bluegill or perch with a carolina rig or jika rig. Your right, forage is going to be more abundant at certain times and the bass are going to be targeting certain things more than others at times. This calls for different techniques and knowing where the forage will be. For example, imitating a bluegill or a craw prespawn will be different than postspawn or even spawn. Speed, size, location, and movement will be different... If I were you I'd get a solid hold on imitating craws, and for a baitfish bluegill/perch, as I said above, you can imitate them similarly in many situations...
  20. Even if you are aren't trying to get better, your knowledge grows every time your on the water... Whether you catch 500 fish or 0...
  21. I have fished 43 and 54, the two in my New Hampshire...
  22. I got a 7'6" MH Med Fast Shimano clarus crankbait rod... I don't think it will be that bad, It is heavier than my other rods but thats just because of the rod itself...
