  1. Just googled channel catfish pictures. http://www.torange.us/photo/7/13/Channel-catfish-1287747627_62.jpg That pretty much looks like what you have minus the barbels.
  2. I made a whole post a while back asking if anyone had really seen a bigfoot/sasquatch. Ill just say that it didn't go over so well. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/107597-sasquatch/?hl=%20sasquatch
  3. Ive never fished the Potomac but I know we have a snakehead problem there. Hard to say from that picture. Maybe a description of the rest of it?
  4. I love shallow cranks! Probably my favorite technique. The KVD 1.5's are great. I haven't tried the xrap shallow but I have a shallow shadrap (http://www.basspro.com/Rapala-Shallow-Shad-Rap/product/2850/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_THUMBNAIL). First trip I used it on was a slow day and I only caught one fish but it was a nice 3lber. Caught several fish on the 1.5's this past fall. Deflecting them off cover is a great way to trigger strikes (the squarebills will deflect better) but you can also just burn them in or use a yo-yo type retrieve. Crank them down, let them float up a bit, crank them down, repeat. If your gonna burn them, try moving the tip of your rod from side to side or give a little twitch now and then to make the bait change directions. Expieriment and see what works best for you. Most of the cover in the lakes I fish is weeds along the shore and a lot of my fish were caught just burning along the weedline.

  7. Those bull frogs can be crazy man. We have a small rock pond in our back yard and the frogs are all over it in the summer. I went out one morning and there was a dead one floating that had to be a solid 10-12 inches long. I got it out with a pool skimmer and saw what the cause of death was. There was a pair of frogs legs sticking out of its mouth. It had choked to death on another frog that was almost as big as he was.
  8. I just started bass fishing at the end of the summer. Started out fishing mostly plastic worms and got skunked a lot. Eventually started fishing shallow cranks and started catching fish. I like the KVD 1.5's but the 1.0's should work just fine. As for when it's best to fish them, Im not too sure since I kinda just started but the majority of my fish caught between September and late November were on shallow cranks. Not sure where your located but the waters pretty cold in most of the country right now so it may not be a good time for crankbait fishing. As for color, you can try and match the bait fish in your lakes but Ive caught fish on all sorts of colors. Red, purple, green, black, gold, and more. Sexy shad should be just fine once the shallow crank bite picks up. I have a SK 6XD in sexy shad that someone gave me but I don't have any water near me deep enough to fish it. Its a good looking color though.
  9. Thats awesome! Those things make the stocked trout around here look like minnows!

  13. Im sure it doesn't compare to the rest of you but I saw a pretty good size otter a couple months ago. I was getting ready to call it a day and as I was walking to my car, I glanced down this little path along the edge of the lake. The otter was about 30 yards away. I actually thought it was a dog for a second. This thing was rolling around in the grass like your dog would roll around on the floor with his favorite toy. Tried to get a little closer so I could get a good pic with my phone but as soon as I got close it slid down the bank into the lake. I didn't even think we had otters here in MD and I actually googled them when I got home to make sure I really saw what I thought I saw. I'd say it was about 3.5-4 ft long head to tail.

  15. I asked this question a while back and one of the answers I got was to weigh the fish is a plastic shopping bag. The bag weighs practically nothing and it will keep the fish from flopping off the hook and injuring itself.
  16. I haven't order from TW yet but the next time I need something thats where Im going. BPS shipping prices are based on how much your order costs. Not how much it weighs. Plus they charge and extra 6 bucks for rods 6 feet and over. TW is free for orders $50 or more and you can upgrade it to 2-day for 5 bucks.
  17. Not a bad idea. I can see it working for some people. I could probably handle it between 10-20 dollars a week. Living paycheck to paycheck (and the paychecks aren't that big), for me putting any more than that would mean not having money for food or rent. Im a delivery driver and I actually have a jar that I put my cash tips in til I can get to the bank. The problem with a jar of money sitting there is that it can be pretty tempting. "I feel like pizza for dinner." 20 bucks out of the jar. "Im low on gas". 20 bucks out of the jar. But be that as it may, if you have the income to spare and can manage to leave the jar alone, go for it. Sounds like a great idea.
  18. Good looking fish...Congrats!
  19. I bought some a couple Bomber square a's last month but the bites pretty dead around here. Can't wait til it wams up some so I can try them out.
  20. KVD 1.5's for me. I also like Bandit cranks. Haven't fished their squarebills yet but the 200 series is a good shallow crank. Ive caught fish on all sorts of colors with both of these baits.
  21. Glad you guys had a good trip!

  23. Welcome to Bass Resource. Those are some nice looking fish!
  24. I agree with getting to a doctor. I just hope the doctors in your area are better than what Ive got here. Ive had similar symptoms to what you have for the last couple of years and Im also thinking its my gall bladder. Been to the ER and a specialist or 2 on several occasions. They've ran every test under the sun and all I get out of it is "well, it could be this and it could be that but were not really sure". They can't pinpoint whats wrong with me but they sure don't have any problems sending me a bill.
