If you know the fish are there, then keep at it. Im usually fishing early in the mornings before work and gas is crazy expensive so the closer the better for me. The lake I go to most of the time I usually only catch 2-5 fish (fishing from the bank) in a couple hours and sometimes get skunked but hey, its only 10 minutes away. On my days off Ill try and hit some other bigger bodies of water to switch things up a bit.
Im weird. I cast and reel both with my right hand. So I cast right, switch my rod to my left hand, and then reel right. Ive tried casting/reeling with my left to eliminate the need to switch hands but it just feels weird. Can't get used to it.
I haven't caught anything too unusual. Caught the top half of a rod a couple months ago. Tied it to the rod I was using and then used that to pull a roostertail out of a tree that was beyond my reach. This thread reminds of a Family Guy episode where they go fishing and Peter says something like "All we caught was a tire, a boot, a tin can and this book of cliches."
My favorite baits to fish are squarebill crankbaits. I like KVD 1.5's in any kind of shad color (gizzard shad, sexy shad, tennesee shad, etc). And like the other guys said, you can't go wrong with senkos. They strait up catch fish.
Nice! I've never caught a smallie and would love to get a couple this year. Gotta find good spot for them though. Most of the lakes I live by don't have them.
I mostly catch and release but every once in a while Ill keep a couple smaller ones. I haven't had a chance yet to try walleye or crappie so I don't really have anything to compare it to but the couple of times my girlfriend fried up the bass I brought home they were amazing. I think somebody else already mentioned flour, egg, and italian seasoned bread crumbs. Like I said, mostly catch and release and if it's a big I always throw it back but theres nothing wrong with keeping a few legal fish every now and then as long as your not just stocking up your freezer.
Mines a blue merle too. He's not so good with people unless they have dogs with them though. He's not vicious or aggressive. Just scared of his own shadow. They definitly have a ton of energy. He can't sit still even after we take him to the park and run him around for a few hours. We had one a few years ago that was 15 and we tried to take it easy on him when we went to the park but he'd still try and run up all kinds of steep rocky terrain. And they're too smart for their own good. I swear Im suprised this dog doesn't talk. I wish I had a picture but he runs and hides whenever I point a camera at him.
Found the owner. They lived right across the road from us. Can't believe I'd never seen the dog before. They called the Humane Society and they gave them our number. Glad she's back where she belongs. The people seemed really happy to to get her back. I know my Aussie is glad she's gone. She was only here a couple hours and claimed his food, toys, the couch and me for herself.
