  1. I've been doing really well on the Shellcracker. I also like the way the Eeliminator looks in the water but I haven't caught anything on it yet. I'm thinking it will do better when it warms up a bit more and topwater picks up some. Gonna try the Anacondas next.
  2. Nice fish you've got there!
  3. Nice! Pretty cool to start your season off with a new PB!
  4. Awesome fish man...congrats!
  5. Very nice trout. As for fishing times, I've caught a couple in the mornings but I've been having more luck in the afternoon/evening after it warms a bit.
  6. I want to love Rat'l'traps but whenever I tie on any lipless crank, I seem to always end up getting it snagged within a couple casts after tying it on which leads me to not fish them as often as I probably should. I have a Red Eye Shad that I bought like 2 weeks ago that I'm too skittish to throw cuz I don't want to lose it. It really needs to see some water though. Maybe next trip.
  7. I still use mono but that's mostly cuz I'm still pretty new to bass fishing and its just what I started out with. When my tax money gets here I'm planning on buying my first baitcaster and spooling it with braid and if I like it, Ill probably spool my spinning outfit with braid as well.
  8. I ordered a subscription to Bass Master Magazine a month or 2 ago and I was automatically enrolled in B.A.S.S. Today when I got home from work, there was a little packet sitting on the table with a B.A.S.S. patch, a couple stickers and a little tackle bag. I'm thinking the bag is just the right size to hold all my soft plastics. That would free up more room in my larger bag for more hard baits but then I'd have to carry 2 bags. I dunno. I'll have to think on it. Either way free stuff is always cool.
  9. Nice man...that things a fatty!
  10. Nice fish! I've been crushing them on a chartreuse Strike King spinnerbait as well. That things been putting in some work so far this season.
  11. Awesome fish!
  12. Welcome to BR!
  13. If its highly pressured, find out what the local tackle shops and department store fishing sections carry and then make sure your throwing something completely different. Fish can get used to seeing the same lures day in/day out.
  14. What I do when I need to change hooks is I find my lure on the BPS website. It usually lists the hook size. Or you could just buy a variety pack and eye it out. Also, like Marty said, seems like most of the hooks I needed were either 4 or 6.
  15. Chartreuse with gold blade. You can see red pretty good in dirty water too.
  16. Thanks. I'm really glad she was able to catch something. Our last few trips together were fishless and miserably cold and windy. I sometimes wonder how I got so lucky to have a woman who likes to fish as much as me. Now if I can just teach her to get her own lures out of all the trees she gets snagged in Ill be in business.
  17. That's awesome! Congrats on a great trip and all the PB's!
  18. Hello and welcome!
  19. Welcome!
  20. Don't get too down on yourself. A lot of bass fishing is confidence. I didn't catch anything the first several times I went out. You just have to keep at it. If your seeing baitfish in an area, there's a good chance there are bass nearby. However, if your rod/reel is only casting 7 yards, I'd recommend looking for some new equipment.
  21. Shakespeare makes a nice little bass fishing starter kit. I actually bought it when I was first starting out. Maybe not the highest quality but its only 30 bucks and his parents may not be too keen on throwing down too much money. Comes with rod, reel with line pre-spooled, and a lure kit including hooks, weights, lizards, shaky worms, a squarebill crank, and some other stuff. The BPS website has it but I've also seen it at WalMart. http://www.basspro.com/Shakespeare-Catch-More-Fish-Rod-and-Reel-Combo-for-Bass/product/10206303/
  22. If you know there's fish in there, why give up? If it were me, I'd keep fishing it as long as I could. Especially if the next lakes are an hour away. If you know where those Xmas trees are, fish around them. They make for really good fish attracters. When you catch fish, take note of when/where you caught them and what the weather conditions were like.
  23. Bought some Popeye's Fried Chicken and Cajun fries. Now that's good eatin'.
