  1. Welcome to Bass Resource!
  2. I'd say mono to start out with. I also just bought my first baitcaster and birds nest are a real pain. If you look on YouTube you can find a video of a trick to clear backlashes where you tighten down the drag and turn the handle a couple times while thumbing the spool. Don't know why it works but it does about 85-90% of the time. The really bad ones you may have to cut out which equals wasted line and braid isn't cheap. Another tip is that after a good long cast, put a piece of tape across the spool. That way if a backlash does occur, it won't be able to go very deep. Hope this helps.
  3. Nice...let's hear it for some Maryland bass!
  4. Good job guys!
  5. Ha...fantastic! Funny stuff right there!
  6. Went to 2 new ponds today. They didn't really pan out as well as I hoped. I was looking at them on Google Maps and they both looked like they had a lot more area for bank fishing. Turns out the only spots that were able to be fished from the bank were the small docks near the boat ramp and the spillway at one of them. Plus the one was in kind of a sketchy neighborhood. Didn't stay there long and don't have much of a desire to go back. The day turned out ok though. All our fish were caught on T-rigged lizards. The wife got a pickerel in the spillway and a smallish bass off the boat ramp but about 20 minutes after arriving I hooked into a nice fat largemouth. The spillway had tons of excellent cover in it. I tossed my lizard up under an overhanging bush and this fish hit it like a ton of bricks. Wasn't expecting a fish like this out of a 10 ft. wide 2.5 ft. deep creek.
  7. Went to 2 new ponds today. They were about an hour away in an area that I didn't really know and on the way to the second one, we drove past a Gander Mountain that I didn't know existed. I've been to BPS before but never Gander Mountain. It wasn't quite as nice as BPS and didn't have as big a selection but it was nice enough. Still a trip to an oversized tackle store so it was a good experience. Here's what I bought: SK Red Eye Shad in Green Tomato Jitterbug in Black Scatter Rap Shad in Bleak Scatter Rap Crank in Blue Back Herring Terminator Pro Series Jig in Blue 1 Pack Berkley Havoc Pit Boss in Sapphire Blue 1 Pack Rage Tail Thumper in Red Bug Owner 4/0 Offset Worm Hooks Fishouflage hat in Bass Pattern
  8. Congrats on starting your first bass fishing season! And nice fish! Looks around 3 pounds to me.
  9. Bought another Midnight Special spinnerbait. Took the last one out for the first time last night to try it out and lost it right before I was planning to leave. Also bought a Rat-L-Trap and picked up a chartreuse Strike King buzzbait and a new multi-tool for the wife's tacklebag.
  10. Ha...awesome! Jerk frog got what he deserved.
  11. Happy birthday J Francho! I would have baked a cake but I went fishing instead. Hope you have a good b-day!
