  1. Welcome to Bass Resource! I don't know much about saltwater fishing so I don't think I can be much help in deciding between rods. But I notice that the first rod you list is a casting rod and the Spheros is a spinning reel. You want to make sure you pair a spinning reel with a spinning rod and a baitcasting reel with a casting rod. Also you say that the average fish is 20-30 pounds but the reel you've chosen is rated for 10 pound test line. You may want to consider another reel that can hold heavier line. I know your excited about getting your first setup but if your planning on spending a couple hundred bucks, I'd say make sure you do your research first. Maybe make a post in the rods/reels section of the forum. The more specifics you give, the more the people here will be able to help you. Let us know your budget, the type of fishing you'll be doing (you've already said saltwater), where you'll be fishing from mostly (boat/shore), the species you'll primarily target, and anything else you can think of. Or at the very least, talk to a sales rep at BPS and let him assist you in putting together a setup that will be ideal for your fishing situation.
  2. Welcome to Bass Resource!
  3. Classic bait and switch. They lure you into the store/site with you thinking your gonna get some great deals on great stuff and then you see the good stuff that you want isn't the stuff on sale. But your already there so they know your most likely gonna end up buying something anyway. They don't care about saving you money. They care about making as much money as they can and maybe getting rid of some of the crap they're having trouble selling. That's more than likely why its on sale.
  4. Just checked a YouTube video with Shaw talking about it. Interesting. I may give it a try.
  5. Nice fish...congrats!
  6. Ok...a day or 2 early but whatever. I'm bored. So first of all, thank you to all of our service men and women, past, present, and future! Everything you do for this country is greatly appreciated. Secondly, because of the holiday, MSN had this as one of the main headlines when I opened up Internet Explorer. It's videos of soldiers re-united with their dogs after coming back from deployment. http://www.today.com/pets/shock-awwwww-military-members-emotional-reunions-their-dogs-6C10072002/ Really touching stuff but it reminded me of something else. A few years ago when I was in a Barnes and Noble, I noticed a children's book on a display. It was called Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine, and a Miracle. I actually read the whole thing in the store. Basically, a soldier bonds with a stray dog in Iraq, gets ordered to another base like 70 miles away, and the dog tracks him down across the open dessert over the course of a couple days. I know it's old news and some of you may have heard about it already but I guess I'm just thinking out loud here. Here's a link I found with a summary of the story. http://www.today.com/id/33585208/ns/today-today_pets/t/marine-bends-rules-save-dog-found-iraq/#.UaG8LoHD_IU If you enjoy reading to/with your children, I'd highly recommend this book. And once again Thank You Veterans for defending America and freedom across the globe!
  7. Right now I tie everything with an improved clinch knot. But I've heard a few of you guys mention using other knots for walk-the-dog type baits. What knots do you use for your topwater lures and do you get better action out of the bait because of it?
  8. Nice! Seems like your always on those big stripers up there.
  9. I'm better with moving baits. I can usually get bit on a squarebill or a spinnerbait.
  10. BPS is like the Disneyland of outdoor stores. There's no question there. Kind of hard for another store to compare. I've never been to Dick's before but I went to a Gander Mountain for the first time Thursday. It was nice and they had a decent selection but it was no BPS.
  11. Bought a $5 dollar scratch off. Didn't win anything though. I don't know why I keep buying these things. They always cheat.
  12. I agree with you on the 'no more respect in the world'. For the most part anyway. I had a few similar experiences last summer. It's annoying but your better off letting by-gones be by-gones. No telling how someone might react if you confront them. Just try and let it go and keep fishing.
  13. Some nice looking fish there and that lake is beautiful! Glad you had a good trip...congrats!
  14. Nice fish and cool video! The music made it seem really epic.
  15. Geeze man...those things are monsters!
  16. I like it! I never made anything that cool in shop class. Let us know if it catches any fish.
  17. That's really cool! Be sure to post some pics after you get some paint on it.
  18. That's a little ridiculous. Especially that they told you one thing and then went back on it. And I mean, those things retail for like 2 bucks so you know it probably costs them less than a buck a piece to manufacture. You'd think that a few dollars worth of baits would be worth it to keep a customer satisfied. Oh well. You live and learn. Glad you had some luck with the SK customer service. I know a lot of people here have had good experiences with them.
  19. I have couple Cotton Cordell Super Spots. I've caught a couple fish with them but I have bad luck with lipless cranks. I always get them snagged. That's why I like the Cordells. They're nice and cheap.
  20. Nice fish/video!
  21. Welcome to Bass Resource! There's a ton of information in the articles and be sure to check out the how-to videos. Also feel free to post any specific questions you might have. Everyone here is really helpful.
  22. Interesting...never heard that before. How does that work?
  23. X's 2 on not leaving your rods in the back of the truck unattended. That's just asking for trouble. Transporting them is one thing but I certainly wouldn't leave them in there.
  24. Every once and a while when I take my wife's truck fishing, I just lay them in the bed diagonally on an old blanket or something like that so they're not sliding around.
