Well, I'm new to baitcasters too but I have noticed it's a lot easier to cast heavier lures. Not sure why but with lures in the area of say 1/2 and up, I don't have to worry about my thumb control as much and rarely backlash. Something to do with the velocity of the lure flying through the air maybe? But then you'd think the spool would still keep going and overrun. Who knows?

This happens to me and my wife a lot. One day we'll go out and I'll slam them and she'll get skunked. Go to the same spot the next day and she ends up catching em all. Who knows? The fishing gods work in mysterious ways.

Congrats on an awesome trip! Sucks about the rain but at least you were catching em. There's nothing worse than getting soaked and freezing your ass off and not getting anything for your trouble.

Hey guys. I'm personally not a gun guy so I can't offer any legitimate input on what gun your grandma should get but I saw the title of this thread and it made me think of this story that I read a while back. That things huge compared to all the crappies I've ever caught...nice fish!

Nice fish! I've only fished the Zara Puppy but I've caught quite a few nice sized largemouth on it.
