  1. Sebile Flatt Shad....Cast a mile and it never dives deeper than a few inches....lipless crankbait that you can burn, calls em from far in dirty water, not too loud since does not have rattles, vibrates nicely, and stops on a dime right on the surface nose down, and the 77su size is my favorite this time of year as it matches the sizte of this years bluegills or if their are shad in the lake....Or go buzzbait or prop bait topwater....Wake baits as mentioned are great as well but I personally would want to fish fast to find them, then in dirty water like after an ALgae bloom, they should be together in same area, so then I would pick it apart with something slow and that is easy to find like a carolina rig or soft swimbait with large hammer tail or rattle.
  2. We use casting spoons like the krokodile spoon, Johnson Sprite, Kastmaster, or any S shaped spoon for Bass here in Florida and I always did in NY as well...Anyplace you would use a Rattle trap, Spinnerbait, or feather or swim a grub would be a good time for a spoon..I use them when bass are schooling mid day in the heat and suspending as they are tough to catch so I use a 1/2 oz silver spoon, cast it a mile, let it flutter to the bottom, if not hit on the drop, I do what was mentioned above, Rip it a few feet and let it drop just like we often do with rattle traps.... I also will kast them out and burn them under the surface and they are awesome in stained water...change out trebles for single hooks, and you can get creative...Many Bass tournaments have been won with casting spoons, flutter spoons, those new Magnums everyone was throwing a few weeks ago, but if it matches the hatch and what they are feeding on, a spoon is awesome, fast and easy....I use a weedless spoon tipped with a 4" grub almost every trip for Bass in lakes 4' deep fulll of weeds, and for Redfish and Snook on the flats....Spoons, bucktails or hairjigs, are not used by enough people but I like it that way, and it will always be that way until someone creates a spoon that is profitable to sell, advertise, and mass market all over the USA that has a feature people can't make on their own, or simply use a generic brand to do the same thing....After all, you can make a Lake Fork Flutter spoon in any pattern you want for a few bucks, all you need is a pack of blanks, some tape if you want to color them, paint maybe, split ring, hook, and whatever you want to add to it....dirty water, and I mean brown, I used to go Buzzbait, but now either 1/4 spoon so it flashes bright, falls slowly (a flutter spoon falls like a senko) and add a bead so it bangs the split ring for noise, and I buy the cheapest brass blanks as well, plus with sharpies you can make them any color on the spot...Great lures, in survival kits they usually give you line, hook, and a spoon......
  3. I could fish a floating Jerkbait or Ripbait all day long, topwater lure of any kind, or Spoon etc....I fish plastics for flipping and because they work but if I can get a Jerkbait in the water without getting snagged, I am fishing a hardbait because I would argue they catch larger fish then a fluke and see them less but who knows, all preference.....I look at what everyone has on their rods in the morning, or what is selling best, and then go in opposite direction..I fish Tubes, Spoons, blade baits like the silver buddy and do great on pressured lakes.
  4. Craigs list, Ebay, and a search on google after clicking shopping and looking for clearance sales...I Recently Found Bomber Long A's in all the colors they make and all in the good size, and some in the small rare size as well for 3.99 and another clearance was for VMC Spinshot hooks for like $1.49 or something but I usually favor Tackle Warehouse to start, Bass Pro, Cabelas etc., or I hit the road and drive to a BPro and look or clearance sales in Orlando at the many tackle shops including BItters my fav.
  5. The Reason I mentioned pliers, and I have had to do this roughly a dozen times in my life and the Er is too expensive, and for Hands, arms and legs, sharp pliers that cut hooks work like this.. Unhook the fish of course but usually you are screwed if a thrashing fish is in your lap and your leg is full of tof trebles (My father always told me to get off the front of the boat when we were fishing for Stripers as a kid, but I insisted, caught a small blue fish, lifted and as I was grabbing a rag the line broke and it fell in my lap...That was coast guard and all, so I learned how to do it by asking the Dr and watching the next 2 times similar things occured with hooks. Not sure how kit works, friends carry it, but for my method, you simply push the barb forward and cut the hook under the barb, then simply back it out...It hurts like heck getting the hook to the point of cutting below the barb, but much more painful and almost impossible in tough skin to back a barb out due to it's shape and design so fish do not get off... I have insurance but still not going to sit in an ER for a hook in my foot that I can cut with wire cutters or sharp pliers as they will make you sit for hours while people with severe injuries keep going ahead of you....However, If in certain areas I would not mess with anything, trust anyone other than an Md, so I wear protection....I didn't mea it that way, just meant long pants, shirts as often as I can, but also to preven bugs, ants, snakes etc... Ya, safety equipment can save a good day of fishing instead of having to leave for an accident you or someone else you are with had....
  6. IT NEVER HURTS TO SHOW MANAGEMENT THAT YOU ARE "CURIOUS" AS TO WHY YOU CARRY ONE BRAND OVER ANOTHER AND IF YOU ARE POLIGHT AND SHOW THAT YOU ARE ONLY ASKING TO HELP GROW THE BUSINESS SINCE YOU ARE A DEDICATED ANGLER, THE CONVERSATION SHOULD TURN OUT GREAT. I AGREE WITH WHAT EVERYONE SAID, NEVER DISPARAGE PRODUCT ANYONE CARRIES, EVEN THE COMPETITION, BUT SUGGESTING HIGHER END RODS MAY BE A GOOD IDEA SINCE MOST DIE HARD BASS FISHERMAN KNOW WHAT IS LACKING IN THE AREA. I WOULD TELL THEM TO START CARRRYING MORE SWING JIGS, PUNCH RIGS, AND ALSO CARRY SOME BRANDS THAT ARE RARELY SEEN IN RETAIL STORES SINCE I SEE A TREND COMING AND ACCESSORIES ARE ALL PROFIT AND ALWAYS NEEDED....I GUESS EACH STORE HAS A BUDGET FOR EACH DEPT AS WELL, BUT ALL WOULD BE COOL TO KNOW AND IF YOU WANT TO MOVE UP YOU WILL ONE DAY HAVE TO KNOW SO NO SUCH THING AS A DUMB QUESTION AND THAT IS THE TRUTH IF PRESENTED WITH RESPECT AND WELL INTENDED. I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED SHOPPING AT DICKS FOR FISHING AND OUTDOOR GEAR, WE HAVE GREAT SELECTIONS, CLEAN STORES, GOOD HELP AT THE ONE'S AROUND TAMPA IMO, ALSO GREAT SALES & THEY ARE ADDING MORE OF THE POPULAR SOFT BAITS AND LURES ALWAYS LACKING SO SOMEONE IS MAKING SUGGESTIONS OR DOING STUDIES AS GANDER, WALLMART, OR BAITSHOPS ARE NOT CARRYING WHAT DICK'S HAS.
  7. I USED TO FLOAT TUBE ON LONG ISLAND, AND I FOUND QUALITY GEAR LIKE FINS USED ON CRAIGS LIST OR IN FORUMS LIKE THIS...YOU CAN FIND ITEMS LIKE THAT FOR GREAT DEALS AS SOMEONE HAS A QUALITY PAIR IN A GARAGE, AND YOU NEED GOOD ONES TO ENJOY YOURSELF.
  8. JUST HEAR TO HELP OTHER'S HAVE FUN AND CATCH MORE FISH....HAVE YOU PURCHASED THE NEW MIGHTY BITE SYSTEM FOR BASS? IT MAY BE ILLEGAL IN YOUR STATE, SO CAREFUL ORDERING THROUGH MAIL, BUT I HAVE A HOOK UP IF YOU NEED A KIT SINCE IT IS KILLER, BASS LOVE LED FLASHING LIGHTS, IT BEATS THE BANJO MINNOW AND THAT IS FOR REAL.... YOU REALLY CAN LEARN A TON ON THIS SITE, AND IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION SOMEONE WILL SOLVE YOUR ISSUE FOR SURE, ALOT OF GUYS ON HERE CAN FISH FOR SURE.
  9. IF YOU CAN'T LAY ON A SURF BOARD OR RAFT, LOOK DOWN WITH THE GOGGLES AND SEE BOTTOM, THEN GET SOME FINS ON AND GO FOR IT, IT IS SCARY AS HECK AT FIRST, BUT KIND OF A RUSH AFTERWARD AND YOU LEARN ALOT AND ALSO WHERE YOU NEED TO PLANT SOME STRUCTURE TO HELP BASS GET LARGER... I HATE LEECHES AS WELL SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT BAREFOOT OR HAVE SKIN TOUCHING MUD, AND NO ALLIGATORS ARE A MUST FOR ME, TURTLES NOT A BIGGIE FOR ME.....I HAVE MET A FEW OF THE GUYS HERE IN FLORIDA WHILE NIGHT FISHIING GOLF COURSE PONDS WHO DIVER WITH SCUBA GEAR TO GET GOLF BALLS IN THE PITCH DARK, AND ALLIGATORS THE SIZE OF DINASOURS PROWL THESE PONDS.... ONE GUY IS COOL AND HAS TOLD ME WHERE ALL THE BIGGER FISH HANG OUT, HAS TOLD ME FISH WERE IGNORING MY LURES, MY LINE WAS GLOWING, AND HE ACTUALLY TOLD ME THAT EVERY TIME A FISH WOULD STRIKE WOULD BE WHEN ANOTHER BASS WAS INTERESTED AND ENTERED THE PICTURE.....HE HAS BEEN ATTACKED 3 TIMES IN 20 PLUS YEARS, SO I WOULD ASSUME ITS SAFE, I USED TO FLOAT TUBE ALL THE TIME UP NORTH.
  10. Decided to do some fishing last night and was throwing a topwater Rip bait and had a blowup of large proportion, and I was not prepared so I went on auto pilot and set as hard as I could without waiting. I realized that my bait was obviously coming toward the shore and my concern was not my friend who knew to hit the ground, but for my dog who is unaware of my habit of having a loose trigger finger on topwater hook sets...Good news is this...The quality finish on The Lucky Craft flash minnow caught some light and I was able to block it with my hand instead of taking 3 trebles to the cheek. I am being serious as this is something that happens often, I was on a charter for Stripers once and a poor guy had a huge plug stuck in his forehead down to his neck, but he was a trooper and fished despite huge swells in the ocean.....I would have waited for the hospital in that situation as well for scarring but for the hand, or other skin, make sure you are carrying sharp cutters or pliers so you can cut the barb off and back out the trebles....It is not bad if prepared, I have friends who have a kit you can buy that works great as well, but moral of story is always bring sharp cutters with you because when they get in your skin past the barb, you are in pain, so MORAL OF THIS STORY, MAKE SURE YOU LET YOUR ROD LOAD BEFORE SETTING THE HOOK ON TOPWATERS, AND ALSO FISH BARBLESS TREBLE HOOKS AND THEN PLIERS ARE ONLY FOR REMOVING GUT HOOKED FISH THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE SET EARLIER AND HARDER ON TO AVOID KILLING THE FISH....AND TEETH WILL NOT CUT BRAID, LIGHTERS COME IN HANDY...
  11. ALL THAT MATTERS IS YOUR BOXES OF TACKLE ARE FULL WITH EVERY COLOR JUST IN CASE THEY ONLY WANT A COLOR YOU DO NOT HAVE WITH YOU....IF YOU LIKE A BAIT, BY 2 PACKS OF EVERY SIZE, COLOR, AND THEN BUY 2 PACKS OF THE BAIT THAT HAS A DRASTIC ACTION THAT IS DIFFERENT AND YOU SHOULD BE GOOD...... THEN PURCHASE GARLIC SPIKE IT IN ALL COLORS TO DYE JUST IN CASE, AND MAKE SURE NOT TO SPILL IT ON ANY CARPET, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A CO-ANGLER WHO WALKS ON SEATS WITH BOOTS ON. THAT STUFF SHOULD BE ILLEGAL, AND DON'T EVER PUT IT IN SOMEONES 5 HOUR ENERGY BOTTLE AS A JOKE, THEY MAY JUST OPEN IT AND SLAM IT BEFORE SMELLING OR TASTING SINCE YOU WOULD NOT THINK TO DO THAT, BUT ALWAY'S MAKE SURE THAT A JOKE IS PROPERLY SET UP AND SOMEONE IS AROUND SO A SIP IS TAKEN AT MOST, SAME WITH BAITSAVER FOR LIVEWELLS CLUBS SEND OUT WHICH NEEDS A LABEL, SINCE TACKLE WAREHOUSE OR OVERSTOCK SENDS ENERGY DRINKS THAT LOOK THAT SAME..I DRANK A WHOLE BOTTLE OF BLUE LIVE WELL SAVER AT MY MAILBOX A FEW MONTHS AGO AND IT WAS AWFUL. FIGURED AND ENERGY DRINK AT 5 WAS COOL, BUT THIS MESSED UP MY PLANS FOR A FEW DAYS, AND NOW I AM DONE WITH MY RAMBLING, BUT I THINK THE GARLIC SPIKE IT WAS WAY WORSE CAUSE THIS GUY WAS HURTIN REAL BAD, BUT WE ALL HAD A GOOD LAUGH, JUST GLAD IT WAS NOT MY JOKE OR IDEA TO PLAY IT, I WOULD HAVE SUGGESTED SOME GOOD SHAD OR CRAW SCENT, F2, BANG....
  12. WHEN FISHING HOUSE SOFT BAITS, YOU MAY JUST BE FISHING THE SAME BAIT YOU PAID ALOT MORE MONEY FOR ONLY IN A DIFFERENT PACKAGE. BIG BITE-GANDER-LOOK FOR MORE SIMILARITIES TO THE OTHER BAITS AND START TO WONDER, HOWEVER, SOME NAME BRANDS ARE BETTER DUE TO DESIGN, AND SOME HOUSE BRANDS ARE BETTER FOR SAME REASON... BASS PRO BAITS ARE NOT CHEAP, AND SOME CHEAP BAITS LIKE BIG BITE I ACTUALLY REALLY LIKE..CANE STICKS ARE AWESOME AND INEXENSPIVE, SO IT IS ALL PREFERENCE..EVERY COMPANY COPIES EACH OTHER BUT THAT SHOWS HOW GOOD THE ORIGINAL INVENTION WAS......ONCE A CERTAIN CREATURE BAIT GETS HOT, EVERY COMPANY HAS A SIMILAR BAIT, MAYBE ITS SAME, MAYBE NOT, WHO KNOWS, BUT I LIKE TO OWN ALOT OF CHOICES, AND LIKE INNOVATION AND LOVE TO ORDER NEW STUFF EACH YEAR, SO I WILL PAY FOR ODDBALL BRANDS ETC.
  13. EASY, 2" SMOKE SILVER FLAKE GRUB, BALL HEAD JIGHEAD SILVER, AND A 1/4 OZ GOLD SPOON....SNEAK IN SMOE SMALL HOOKS BUT A SMALL SPOON OR GRUB CATCHES ANYTHING.
  14. I have been messing around with Red hooks, snaps for topwaters, swivels, and all kinds of accessories since I was a kid and that includes color. I have read books, always did science projects in college around fishing and some theory regarding fishing..main interest was always line color and diameter and red hooks vs nickel vs silver...also did alot of research on why some fish follow and strike and why some do not and what makes fish strike... After all this research, reading, field testing-best part, I have no idea on any of it, except I believe only 1 thing to be 100% TRUE ALL OF THE TIME..... CONFIDENCE IS KEY AND IF YOU BELIEVE THAT RED LINE IS THE BEST THEN YOU WILL PROBABLY CATCH MORE FISH WITH RED LINE SINCE YOU WILL BE FISHING AT 100% CONCENTRATION.... WITH RED HOOKS, I ONCE SAW A CRAIGS LIST ADD FOR A LARGE BOX OF BASS LURES FOR SALE, OVER 2000 LURES FROM A COMPETITIVE BASS ANGLER IN FLORIDA WHO PASSED AWAY.... I MADE SURE TO ARRIVE EARLY AND I ENDED UP WITH A NICE ASSORTMENT OF REBEL CRANKS, TIMBER TIGERS, FAT RAPS, RIVER RUNTS, RAPALA, BAGLEYS, AND ALL THE TOP LURES FROM 70'S TO 80'S,AND EVERY LURE HAD AT LEAST 1 MODIFICATION.....RED TREBLE HOOK IN FRONT ONLY, OR RED AND WHITE MYLAR FLASH ON THE REAR TREBLE ESPECIALLY ON TOPWATERS.... AS FOR SNAPS, I THINK THEY ARE FINE IF SMALL AND CLARITY IS SMALL, AND I RARELY USE RED HOOKS WITH SOFT BAITS ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER WANTED TO CHANGE WHAT I ALREADY LIKE WHICH IS A DARK HOOK..... I READ MANY OF THE BERKLEY STUDIES WITH A GRAIN OF SALT SINCE PURE FISHING IS LOOKING TO SELL TACKLE, BUT SOME STUDIES DONE AT IOWA SHOW THAT RED MAY VANISH FIRST IN CLEAR WATER, BUT IN GREEN OR TANIC WATER, IT WILL VANISH LATER, AND I REMEMBER THAT IN SEVERAL STUDIES, YELLOW WORMS WERE HIT 60% MORE THAN ANY OTHER COLOR IN VARIOUS SITUATIONS, AND MOST FISH PREFRED A PROFILE OF 4.5" AND THICKNESS OF A SENKO....I HAVE TESTED THE YELLOW WORM THEORY, AND YELLOW SWIRLS ESPECIALLY WITH BROWN ARE AWESOME, AND SO IS PLACING SOME YELLOW ON THE BELLY OF A 4" TOPWATER LIKE THE MEDIUM SPOOK OR CHUG BUG.. HOPE THAT HELPS, AND I CAN SAY THAT I BELIEVE 100% BRAIDED LINE IN CLEAR WATER WILL ALMOST ALWAYS COST YOU FISH COMPARED TO CLEAR LINE IN SIMILAR DIAMETER IF FISHING A SLOW PRESENTATION....IF FLIPPING 2 OZ PUNCH RIGS, I THINK YOU COULD USE ANY COLORS YOU LIKE SINCE THE FISH IS GRABBING THE BAIT AS IT PENTRATES THE CANOPY WITHOUT MUCH THINKING, ALTHOUGH DARK COLORS ARE BETTER FOR SURE....AND MORE APPENDAGES, ONES THAT FLOAT LIKE ON THE DAMIKI BAITS..JUST KIDDING, I AM YET TO FISH WITH ANYONE WHO DOES THE SAME THINGS AS OTHERS FOR ALL TECHNIQUES OR MOST, AND DEBATES WILL NEVER CHANGE ANYONE'S MIND, AND STUDIES HAVE TOO MANY VARIABLES TO CONTROL TO BE 100% NOT BIASED OR LEGIT IMO...GOOD RAMBLE, FEEL BETTER NOW.
  15. It actually wasn't a total loss, I salvaged the handle which is sweet and has 10 bearing so it is smooth and fits my old Pflueger President like a Boss, makes the reel feel like a winch...Can't kill that reel, year 6, smooth as can be and it gets worked....Yea, Ebay is a joke, however, all house brand lures are all over now, just have to change out hooks, but I never minded paying $1.99 for stuff on sale and I hate changing out rings and hooks....But, some expensive baits are out there and hopefully the companies catch them, but Japanese companies will claim they are fake.....Guess thats all you can do, many are not Huge and wealthy I don't think.....New house brand lures are getting nicer and it's pushing companies who sell average lures for $8.....Every week a new line of topwaters are out and selling for $30 each....NO more insects, frogs and real image...sorry for ramble, I get burnt this time of year, copies or not, I am impressed with new Chinese Stuff compared to past years, and now using owner hooks if legit company, some are.....
  16. I was hoping to hit a home run and get a reconditoned or obsolete Revo, it looked the part, came from a trading company in Asia we work with and I have purchased reconditioned, blemished, overstocked reels in the past, I can't afford MOQ for them or OEM, but he had 200 of a popular spinning reel available and in 2 years only aware of a few warranty claims and all worked out....If you have LOTS OF TIME ON YOUR HANDS, CAN TALK ON IM ALL NIGHT, DIG THROUGH MILLIONS OF PAGES, YOU CAN FIND CRAZY STUFF...Patents are just not part of the culture, and I know they are getting the lures and terminal tackle, gear from legit OEM's, paperwork.... Anyway, the ones on Ebay are from $19-$58, all look the same but are from different factories in different cities, I thought I had a shot for a 2 year old revo for $30, feedback was good on it, over 2k sold in Europe, but if on Ebay its surely fake, I thought won slipped through but nope, I now have a smooth handle that wobbles more than my swing jig.....it has legit bearings and casts further than any of my reels, T3, Helios, other nice reels, has same plastic spool as revo, just was put together missing a few pieces I think.... Moral of the story is, but lures from overseas especially when every one I know seems to be buying the same ones and then naming them, and patents for lures, are funny....I highly recommend the Evolve Baits, especially the walker, great lure, Strike Pro and Duo stepped up big time as well....Also, I think it is maybe Bassday???? Homerun, sharing stuff with Evergreen and Deps...Awesome deals on japanese soft baits right now, hoping my friend comes through with all these Damiki Tubes I love, I can live with the IKA, but the Hydra is a generation ahead of us and the silicone they are using is amazing....18" floating Big Hammer swimbait, and it took us 9/0 with 2 DOA pinch weights, thing still chopped water wihthout effort... My advice is if you like to design lures and tackle, read tackle retail magazine, get ahead of the curve as you can see trends years in advance...10:1 4 oz reel coming next year Is my guess.....and Hopefully 3 of my creations and 5 I am picking out of a catalog like others do..... don't buy chinese stuff on ebay, or canadian, Nj,NY, they all ship fast now, but if you see any colors that look cheap or red/white sloppy, they are not sierra minnows, and the osp and xpods are close but not exact, and hooks break....This time of year is crazy for deals but also fakes, careful with braid even if from a local shop, smell it, as they are making awesome fakes that you can't tell until spooling and hearing it cast....Samurai 50/50 imo. Also, custom painted lures, no box reels or items, or deal is to good for fireline, spiderwire, and now FLuorocarbon.....Drives me nuts, that line meant more than a reel to me....
  17. I used to hate the stuff, but now I love it, especially for Worm fishing or any slower application...Maybe it's confidence, but once I took care of it and learned how to use it I am a believer... Also, the newer stuff is much better than line from even last year IMO
  18. I wanted to give a review for the $30 11 bearing baitcasting reel that we all have probably seen online and wondered about. It looks like many of the top notch reels on the market, the description and type of bearings make the reel sound much better than the $30-$40 price tag.... I decided to order the model manufactured by "Winner" and after ordering it I was confused as I noticed the same shell of a reel all over the internet with bearing counts up to 14! I am not here to dispute bearing counts, but the only thing I can say positive about this reel is that it said "Winner" on the reel, and I feel as though I am a winner, even if the reel was junk right out of the box....First off, so much play in the handle, but it also have issues with the buttom sticking every time I would cast and I a have purchased inexpensive reels before, and they have never been this bad....Cosmetics and look- AWESOME...Function:Aweful.... I figured it would be garbage but I was "hoping" to find a steel.....Trust me, at least the one that I receveived, is not worth $30....I would rather buy the Bass pro Mega cast Anyday. If you are on a budget and are looking for a good reel, you are way better off purchasing an entry level model from Abu Garcia, Shimano, Okuma, Daiwa,Quantuam, Pinnacle, and I hope I did not forget anyone....And Pflueger.... I hate the phrase you get what you pay for, since value is what you pay for, and this reel and I am assuming almost all of them are not worth the value of even $30 which is dirt cheap for a baitcasting reel. Maybe there are better one's out there, but this company seemed to have them all on their site that I have ever seen and they are not Okuma or Revo's,,,,,I just had to see myself, but I am still a winner, at least the reel says so......
  19. YOU CAN THROW ANY SOFT PLASTIC BAIT RIGGED WEEDLESS, AND A STRAIGHT SHANK HOOK USUALLY IS BEST COMPARED TO AN EWG AS THE WIDE GAP OFTEN WILL GET SOME MUCK STUCK TO IT....I WILL OFTEN THROW A RIBBON TAIL WORM, SLUG-GO, MAGNUM TRICK WORM, OR ONE OF MY FAVORITE, A 1/2 OZ. JOHNSON'S SILVER MINNOW GOLD SPOON OR SILVER SPOON WITH A BULKY TRAILER TO KEEP IT HIGH OR A CURLY TAIL GRUB 3-4" IN A CONTRASTING COLOR WITH FLAKE FOR MORE DARTING ACTION......YOU WILL BE AMAZED HOW WEEDLESS A SPOON CAN BE, AND THE FISH ARE RARELY SEEING FLASH IN THE WEEDS.....TRY A SMALLER SPOON IF HAVING ISSUES GETTING SNAGGED, BUT THE SILVER MINNOW OR JAWBREAKER SPOONS ARE CLASSICS FOR A REASON.
  20. I like to keep a clip on my belt that has 8 clear thick bags, and attach them to a clip that has a rope that pulls (carabena??) as I find I rarely use different plastics when fishing, hooks, or terminal tackle, and it is nice to have it all in one place and quick to grab it....I also keep a towel in the same spot.... Fill it with all the baits you plan on using that day, hooks, jig heads etc.I have fished entire days and have not had to open a tackle box or bag...I can sometimes get buy with a few spinnerbaits in one bag, chatterbaits, hooks and weights, and then some worms, beavers, craws, and tubes, and for color, I may carry an insane amount, but I rarely throw anything without green pumpkin in it, or in black.....
  21. check out this link on hybrid....It shown true lb test as #6 is really closer to 12 and #20 is closer to 30....Great line once you know the true breaking strength, as #4 is 9lb test, so alot of people rarely go over #6 on spinning, or #10 on casting..... http://www.duel.co.jp/english/products/lineup/y_fishing/hybrid/ hope that helps...great line for the price and also reliable....You can tie a simple improved clinch knot and be good to go....hope that helps
  22. I have been using Yo-zuri Hybrid for years and for a co-polymer it is by far the best Imo although I have not tried many others....Triple Fish copolmer does the opposite of yo-zuri where they have a #20 that is the dame diamter as #12 for say Trilene XL, so when it comes to co-polymers, never believe what the box says.... The breaking strenghs are much more than listed as #6 is actually more like 12 lb test..#4 is almost 9lb test...Yo-zuri has a new line that is softer and I have not noticed that it is any better, but I like it for Flipping and applications when I need a line where I can tie a fast Improved Clinch Knot and not worry about slipping, and a line that is green or in clear and abrasion resistant...It will cast plenty far, just realize that if you are throwing 10lb test, you are really tossing about 16lb, so if you want 20lb test, I believe #12 is the way to go...#20 is flipping gold as it is 30lb plus, abrasion resistant, and almost a braid....I throw the #20 on a round baitcaster for saltwater and big swimbaits and have landed some huge fish 20lb test has no business landing from land. Here is a good link for hybrid line to understand it better..... http://www.duel.co.jp/english/products/lineup/y_fishing/hybrid/
  23. I have bad mouthed fluorocarbon as much as anyone, and I always felt the Invisible, low stretch claims were bogus, and some may be, but for some reason I never gave up on it 100% and always carried some Seaguar Fluoro leader with me and I am glad I did.... I had a day when my fishing partner was working water behind me while we were both throwing weightless wacky worms, same color (GP/Orange) same hook (Gamakatsu Inline Circle #1/0) and both using spinning gear, only difference was I was using Yo-zuri #6 coplymer in Green (12.8lb test to be exact) and my buddy was using clear 12lb test fluorocarbon-Stren Fluorocast, and the difference in strikes was almost 4/1, and once I switched to my heavier spinning rod with 20lb braid, I tied on FLUOROCARBON LEADER not casting FLuro in #15 and began to do much better..... I have experimented with FLuoro as both a main line and leader for months now, and I am convinced that for slow presentations, weightless worms, any presentation where you are fishing slower and fish get a good look at your bait or lure, FLuoro is better for more strikes than either straight braid, Copolymers, or Nylon Mono......All the issues I used to have with knots, Lures flying off during casts etc....Was from my poor knot tying and that means rushing and not pulling the tag ends, or tying knot slowly and perfecty...Also, I think fluoro has gotten better and much better in the last 6 months, as I have used Stren, berkley, and Spider Wire Fluoro Main Lines and not copoymers, and have not had issues....For Leader, I use Leader Material and I find SEAGUAR to be the best, and it is only line I will tie to braid unless throwing topwaters, which I then stick to my Trilene Big Game, Or Braid to Hybrid..... Some Keys I think have helped...Fluoro casts like a dream on casting gear once you break it in and it is much softer than it used to be.....I don't cross eyes on hook sets, you don't have to if using good quality shar hooks, and I tie my knots slowly even if fish are breaking water all over, as a poorly tied knot is when the biggest fish always strikes... For dropshot fishing, I was convinced nothing could beat 8lb Triple Fish Camo Nylon as I would use that line whenever in open water, but 10lb Seaguar or even 17lb (Red box Seaguar I believe) seems to catch more fish and I am liking circle hooks lately when weeds are not an issue. I also use the sharpest hooks possible and do more of a Sweep set on most fish, and that has helped alot, so spend the money on the right hooks, watch some videos on tying knots properly (I have 30 plus years of fishing experience) and going back to basics really helps...... I resisted Fluoro and was a true hater....Now, I just realized that 4 of my 12 rods I fish with on long trips have all fluoro, and 3 have fluoro leaader material....For Flipping I am not a believer, however, I am convinced that Braid is too loud and fish can hear it when Punching heavy canopy's or weeds, and I still go with Yo-zuri #20 which is 31 lb test, or I go with 20lb Trilene XT, I am still not ready for FLuoro with those Hooksets and tough odd's, but have seen other guys flipping jigs with #20 fluoro and not having any problems....They simply do not rush, and are always checking for frays.....And lastly, Nylon, Copolymers and braid may fray more than Fluoro, so for "Haters" like I was, alot of it was simply adjusting to the new equimpment we have today....More sensitive rods, line with 0 stretch, Sharper Hooks, and I never gave up on fluoro for one reason.......... When I worked part time at a tackle shop, almost all the Angler's who I respected spent money on Fluoro leader every time we had a sale and would buy a ton of it, from #6-#30, and for casting line, they were very particular to the date on the back of the box.....So be careful on the clearance racks, some of the best guys I know believe that any line that is old, is bad, and if it is fluoro, make sure it is the newest version as it is getting better and I can't disagree....Stren Fluoro I used 2 years ago and Vanish was a joke....Stren I use now, is soft and handles great.....Plus, You get more abradion resistance with fluoro, so the entire bit i would tell people about having to re-tie way too much is false, you need to re-tie alot regardless if using braid, Nylon, or any line..... I hope that helps someone try Flurocarbon again even if just on the business end....It can make a huge difference and I have now seen it matter more than I hvae seen color matter.....
  24. The best advice I have received on this site was from a night fishing question I posted for some new ideas to try..... It was suggested by one of the veterans on this site that I use a bladed swim jig also known by most as a chatterbait, and even though I had never tried one at night, the concept made sense..... Flash, Vibration, Skirt with contrasting trailers for more action or bulk, and I decided to try it as a wake bait with a bulky trailer (Havoc Devil spear in black of course)..I now have a dedicated swim Jig Rod that is always ready to go and that means night, daytime, saltwater, heavy cover or weeds, deep or shallow, and you can fish it so many ways to make it effective and after hours of trial and error, I love to burn one at night right on the surface, kill it, and if it is not crushed, rip it up and repeat....I also fish it like a flutter spoon, slow roll it on top or bottom, or simply fish it like a squarebill or spinnerbait..... one piece of advice and I hope this is not banned, but I would suggest spending some extra money and purchasing a high quality lure, as the 3.99-$5.99 versions do not hold up well IMO. I have been using these jigs for a good 6 months now, and after purchasing some custom jigs from a company called D&M jigs, I can say the extra few $$ is actually a big savings, and the value is not even comparable. You will catch more fish, the designs are awesome with a bend in the blade for more thump, awesome color patterns, weedless versions, and what I have found the best part....Top Quality Hooks, components, and durability....I used to go through the regular chatterbaits like a Senko on some trips as the blades and line tie would just get destroyed, but since going to these higher quality jigs, I can use the same jig for multiple fish until casting into a tree or having a fish wrap me around cover.....I recently noticed these jigs available on Tackle warehouse when I searched for "best Selling Items" and the Pirahna Jig was #3, and I was glad to see that as the dozen lures I received are flat out awesome...... I have not tried the new Rage blade or Zman versions which are marketed to be more stout and stronger and I am sure they are, but these Jigs are flat out Nasty and you can truly fish them your style, and just chuck it a mile and start reeling.....If fishing with braid, or even mono, you will feel the strike coming early similiar to a spinnerbait as the lure will start vibrating differently, so wait until the rod loads before setting the hook. These are fantastic lures and you can catch fish by simply casting and reeling, but like any other lure, it is a tool to get the job done, and if you have the right gear to fit your style, and take the time to become a believer, you will soon have confidence and end up purchasing a rod for swim Jigs to replace or compliment your spinnerbait/crankin rod, or sometimes a Flipping stick is Ok if you are fishing it traditional jig style.....Hope that helps, but this is a lure everyone should have in their arsenal, similar to having a Rattle trap, spinnerbait, squarebill, or senko....When it works, it works......
  25. Most of the high priced lures we buy are made in china, and the BPS lure in question is made in China by the same OEM who makes Cables lures, Pradco hardbaits, some nice japanese stuff, and other brands.....If they are fakes, then they do one heck of a job faking them, same weight, sound, size.......just do some research on your keyboard....you can find knock offs of the BPS lures or any lure and they will not work as well, but you can also find that sometimes companies will actually "borrow" a lure and give it new color, maybe use Matzuo trebles, owner, VMC, and then call it something else. Ever wonder why baits by certain companies look so similar, and weigh the same? same size? sometimes same color......If you want to find a house brand lure, that is easy to find just by looking into who is the OEM who makes bait for that publically traded company, get the specs down, and then contact the oem or usually a distributor will sell you 10 at a decent price... I have picked off some Sebile, Heddon, bomber, and other nice lures by buying overseas from the yahoo global trading site, and MOQ is usually only 5 or 10....If you pay .22 for a lure, it is going to be junk, if You pay $5 then it is usually a lure we pay $8-$10 here, sometimes more.....Frogs are a huge savings, so are walking lures, but if you want a good hard segmented swimbait, expect to pay $20 for one that would normally cost $30 and have to buy 5, so it is not all that cheap...If you buy $200, you could do some damage and get a great deal on a lure you like.
