  1. A friend of mine that I regularly fish with has both rods in question. He prefers the Carbonlite for feel techniques. He has had issues with the build quality of the Veritas and now he doesn't really like the color of the rod much anymore. I have fished the Veritas only and thought it was a solid rod but fished a 1/2 to a full power heavier than other rods with similar ratings. For $100 I am not a huge fan of either to be honest.
  2. I like Dobyns as well. Have 5 left in the lineup. Glad the new ride and rods are working out well for you!
  3. Within hour far of a drive? Brining your own boat or needing a guide service or rental boat? Lots of options out there but some of those good southern or southeast lakes will be very long drive one way. Many MN lakes have a very untapped population of 2.5 to 5lb bass.
  4. Very nice! Should hold a "few" NRXs
  5. Nice ride! Really dig bass cat boats!
  6. 100% agree! If you want to discuss saltwater fishing or whatever other species in depth find a different websites devoted to that.
  7. Try emailing one of the Japanese sites. Maybe Jun at Japantackle could help.
  8. The Savy 734 would be ideal for toads and the 735 is more of a hollow body frog rod. In addtiona to toads the 734 makes a good spinnerbait, chatterbait, and small paddletail swimbait rod. This is what I use both of mine for.
  9. For sure. I have 10 spinning outfits I use for various finesse apps both out of the enjoyment of catching fish on light gear and the need to match the right tool with the job.
  10. This is already in play, though the discount percentages are based upon the amount you spend.
  11. Yes, there are several I really like. Usually hair jigs or hair combined with silicone. For cold and clear water they are about all I use. I have 3 of the 3700 series boxes devoted to them.
  12. Northstar and Siebert account for 90% or more of my jigs. There are too many other brands I really don't care for.
  13. 5 of those look pretty pale like they have been in deep water.
  14. My apologies, I couldn't resist. Sorry I couldn't help with your rod choices but hopefully you will get a few replies.
  15. Never buy a rod with "nerd" guides, it's just not cool!
  16. That is what happened to mine after using it on a T3. Worked flawlessly on my Alphas but not on the T3. Comparing notes with a few others I learned they had the same problem when using it with a T3. Not sure why but it bent then broke leaving half of the tool stuck to the spool. Was able to use a pair of pliers to free it but it dinged the spool lip a very tiny bit.
  17. Sure is tough to when Rep Samples are usually under $400. You will love that 893 NRX for anything under a 1/2 oz and any weightless plastics. I hope 984 IMX works well. That was a tough one for me gauge do to the weights you were using. Well enjoy the new rods!
  18. Thanks for the follow up reply. Most people don't ever state one way or the other what they ended up with. Glad you seem to be liking the new acquisitions. I too am a big fan of the NRX rods just not the price tag even in Rep Sample/Dealer Demo form!
  19. Order has been restored! Shimanos are back!
  20. -THUT currently having a 20% off sale -BTD has the deepest discounts but generally limited inventory -TW goes without saying -Tackletrap lots of reel parts that others don't have and fast shipping -Siebert for jigs and often has sales A few others as well. I generally only buy things around holidays or when places have sales or closeouts.
  21. I would look for a medium action spinning rod and 2500 series spinning reel to cover lighter lures and finesse tactics. If you are able to fish a baitcaster I would find a 7 foot MH Fast casting rod paired with a reel that is low profile and feels comfortable to you. Labor days Sales coming forward in the next few weeks would be a good starting point unless you are comfortable buying used.
  22. If you are wanting a rod for flukes, senkos, and basically any soft bait rigged weightless you will want at the very least a medium. I don't know about others but a true ML rod will not give adequate hook sets for plastics. I use my custom Alphas with an SV spool on DX 703 which is a rod rated as a MH though it might actually fish a touch lighter. The reel and the spool really are fine from 1/8 to a 1/2 oz. Flukes and senkos are close to 3/8 oz by the time you factor in the weight of the hook. If I was in your shoes and wanting to fish what you described in your last sentence it would be a Medium to MH depending upon manufacturer.
  23. Spybaiting is seasonal for most waters. Water clarity and cooler water temps are usually indicators to when I would fish one. It is at the other end of the spectrum as it forces the power anglers to downsize and break out the light line and lighter rods. A-rigs are another story. Between state regulations on the number of hooks and tournament regulations the overall use of them is down considerably.
  24. Nice! Copy these pics to the "Show Off Your Stuff" thread at the top! Now add a rod, some line for that reel, and some fish slime and get to fish'n!
  25. I wouldn't even want to guess tha amount of plastics I have in totes or in worm binders. Thousands of packs...
