  1. Well I have a handful of spinning drop shot rods. Most have a hook keeper just above the foregrip. Most of my leaders are around 12-18 inches. I like to take a rubberband and wrap it around the bottom portion of the rod handle. Simply use the rubberband to hold the sinker in place without dangling all over.
  2. Maybe you can find another guy on here in your area. Perhaps he could show the ropes on some of your area lakes. Offer to pay for food, gas, etc. If that doesn't work perhaps you could exchange PM or email messages with tips on your local waters for that time of year from another member. If that fails well it sounds like you should have plenty of extra time to figure it out for yourself through trial and error. Read material, watch videos and apply what you learned when you are out fishing.
  3. Not fished on the same rods could be part of the casting distance difference. How about the same lure?
  4. Yes, it would be good time for a standard big and craw, hair jig, or combination of living rubber and silcone jig with craw trailer.
  5. My last outing was a day in which the air temps were in the 40s with strong winds between 15-25 mph and cloudy to partly sunny skies. The jig out produced everything by a wide margin. The jerkbait, chatterbait, and lipless baits were a distant second. I would also consider a drop shot as well.
  6. Check that, sizeable order placed!
  7. Should be 20% off "most" items.
  8. Thanks Mike! Been waiting for this! Going to get in a good sized order soon.
  9. Lime green win gripe and accents make it a deal breaker for most folks that don't like bold colored rods or blanks.
  10. They are based out of Japan. Shipping charges, customs fees, and lack of warranty support would negate any discounted price. The price reduction of MB items is more of a restriction for US vendors.
  11. If you are referring to "rep samples" or "dealer demos" then yes they can be discounted but not for "new" rods, reels, or products sold by US vendors from my understanding.
  12. I would be shocked if they would discount online, in person, or over the phone. Doing so as an authorized dealer puts their license with MB in jeopardy. I have spoken to a few dealers like (The Hook Up Tackle) and the owner informed they could NOT discount any such products as of last winter.
  13. That link provides no information? The message "Whoops are bad" shows up
  14. You should see what he uses for bluegill!
  15. That is one addiction to be proud of! I too am a addict and guilty of hoarding more than I will ever use. 18 of the 3700 series boxes and counting!
  16. About the only thing that would not be discounted is Megabass products from my understanding even if you call in. Some products that appear on the exclusion list will eventually be discounted once they process your order though it may not be reflected in your cart prior to checkout.
  17. All the cool kids are doing it.
  18. It has been stated several times by some of the builders on the forum that it would be difficult to build a custom rod for less than $150. In addition to components and materials you have their shipping costs and rod building charges. These two alone equal a minimum of $75 ($25 for shipping and $50 for them to build it). I would bet anything you couldn't get a custom rod $100 unless the above to variables are far less... IE free shipping or they build it for basically for fun. I could never get a custom rod quote for under $150 for something "decent". As WRB noted once you get to the $200 point a custom rod is more in play.
  19. These "VS" threads typicay end up getting locked. Both reels have plenty of fans and haters. Daiwa and Shimano make good products with solid performance. The biggest knock on the Tatula is its frame and the Curado I seems to be oiling the breaks from time to time. Retrieve and casting distance when dialed in should be quite similar.
  20. I have 2. One of the best spinning reels you could buy under $200 and for about $100 it is a no brainer.
  21. Prayers sent Dwight! Hang in their friend!
  22. It may depend upon how the photo was taken. If you hold your phone in "landscape" format it should upload them just fine from experience. If you take them in "portrait" or think holding the phone in the same direction it would sit in your pockett, then it will upload it sideways. That is the way it is for me when I use my phone as my camera.
  23. Correct. They are older and produced before the current PQ if memory serves me correct. I had 2 at one point but sold them as I went all Daiwa and Shimano. The reel was part of a PQ rod and reel combo.
  24. That would probably be just fine. Personally I would prefer 5 outfits if room would allow and you have the money. Finesse may be something to carry for fishing up north and heavy pitching and flipping sticks would be more popular in the south. I personally like: 1 crankbait/lipless bait rod 1 jig rod 1 weightless plastic or texas rig rod 1 drop shot rod (spinning) 1 medium spinning rod to use as a utility rod (jerkbaits, shakeyhead, or tubes) There would be enough versatility to swap out for say a frog, a spinnerbait, a chatterbait, topwater, etc.
