  1. They do several sort of random sales throughout the year. Some of them are geared towards how much you spend and others aren't. Up to $300 might be 15% off, $300-499 might be 20% off and over $500 may be 25%. I can't recall the exact numbers and applicable discounts but it is essentially the more you spend the higher the discount. Other sales are just a standard % off your order and some are specific to a certain rod line only.
  2. I have the same exact model in question. Good rod as others have already mentioned. If you are not signed up for Kistlers mailing list you should do so. I believe I bought mine for 20% off using a coupon code provided in one of their emails.
  3. I don't believe any of them will attract fish from a distance. Just my belief. I do believe that when a bass engulfs a bait they have to decide if it is reel or fake. With scent/attractant it usually means the bass will hold on longer giving me as the angler a bit larger window to feel the bite/fish and get a hook set. I use both Megastrike and Smellyjelly. I don't believe either one is better than the other.
  4. I hade a Komodo for a few years but sold it. The retrieve was outstanding and the looks with the CF handle and red accents and Abec 5 bearings were nice standard features. I didn't care for the breaking system nor the way you access the breaking system so I sold it. For $80 it may be worth a go but I can honestly say I don't envision owning one until they change the breaking system and access to it.
  5. That's a dandy Jeff! Now show that picture to your boss and tell them you have caught the bug going around... The structure bug!
  6. The TDZ platform was the predecessor to the Steeze. Both are among the best magnesium reels Daiwa has made. Only drawback on the TDZ reels seems to be lack of high speed gear options for RH users.
  7. You would need to be more specific on the Steeze model. There is the 100, 103, EX, and various SV and LTD models. Plenty of tuning options for all the reels you have mentioned as well. Buy all 3 and sell the 2 that you don't like if you are really on the fence.
  8. Really interested in hearing or seeing what color options will be offered. I am sure a basic 6-8 colors to start with more added depending upon how sales go. If the colors are what I am after I would probably be buying a dozen packs right off the bat.
  9. Very good point John! And if these were available in the US I would have one for sure. Just hate the shipping and customs fees
  10. That Type R + has a pretty special spool and are hard to come by. I would get one of those over the Pixy Type R unless you are diehard BFS guy.
  11. I don't believe there are many rods that can touch an NRX. IMO it crushes everything especially when you are talking about weight of the rod and feel. Everything just feels amplified and the rods feel quite crisp and powerful. Precisely what you want in a bottom contact rod. I know several guys that use both MB and NRX rods. Though the MB rods will push $500-600 a piece they feel the NRX is still superior in feel. You could say that at some point in time you can find a rod or price point that allows you to feel all you would ever need to. The difference is just amplified that bite, tap-tap, or thunk is at the other end of the line. I have Champion Extremes, MB Orichi XX, Cumaras, Powell Endurance, Kistler H3, Shimano Cumulus, ALX Zolo, and even a few customs and they all are under the NRX in feel. The only rod that is close is custom K2 but the blank doesn't offer the same level of power though it is stupid light and has really good feel. If I had around $400 to drop on a rod for bottom contact alone I would buy another NRX rep sample or dealer demo in a heartbeat.
  12. I have a fair amount of jerkbait brands and types. I really like the LC varieties from the Pointer 100sp to 78sp and the slender and flash minnows. The Ima Flirts are pretty reasonable and very effective. I have had fair luck with Rapala but they aren't my favorites. MB 110s are nice but IMO just not worth the price or risk of losing one. Looking at full retail price, 2 MB 110s would run me about $50. I can get 3 LC pointers or 5 Ima Flirts for that price.
  13. Among many of the high end users I have met over the years most would be quick to point out the Antares DC is the furthest caster for distance. The new model which should be released in a few months I believe is even lighter and likely more compact than the previous one. The price is pretty outrageous but if distance is key it may be worth it. There is a video on YouTube of gentleman casting the New Antares DC using a very non traditional casting motion, but getting incredible distsnce. Looks almost like someone winding up to throw a shotput. Another option may be to start a new thread asking users for their feedback on which reel they have used that casts the furthest for normal sized bass lures. It may or may not help but if anything else you could find a cheaper alternative.
  14. Going to be giving the MHX 842 SJ blank a go. Currently having a custom built on this blank specifically for jerkbaits and maybe a few topwaters on occasion. I am hoping it's the cats meow for this technique.
  15. It may be best to define worth it? There are several members here that have both the standard and DC Met. Other than the difference in braking systems I am not sure it is. If you are after casting distance save your money for the Antares DC. If you are wanting something for cranks or reaction baits the 100 sized Conquest DCs are well liked. Both the standard and non DC Met and Conquest are great reels.
  16. I would suggest trying to find a map or using something like Google earth. Not sure how much of the lake you would be able to access on foot shore fishing but I would try to find a map showing depth and contours. Most lakes will have shallow flats either with weed or rock/sand that will be the spawning grounds of the bass in the spring. There should also be some points on the lake that should help hold fish waiting to ambush prey. Depending upon the lake there may be a channel with some nice drop offs and likely structure on either side of the channel. Another feature to look for will be dame which should hold deep water and plenty of rock. Pick your lure based upon depth an cover you are fishing.
  17. Nice work A-Jay! Your canoe rig is pretty nifty looking!
  18. Couldn't have asked for a better report. Good storyline, pictures, and some video! Nicely done gents and congrats on the tourney win!
  19. Is this a trick question? I would say white or pearl with some flake.
  20. Nice bait choices! Your home made hair jigs and underspins are always nice to look at it. Good luck!
  21. Nice video, and welcome!
  22. Very impressive Flatheads, especially for bass gear! Nice job fellas!
  23. Generally channel catfish aren't predators of bass. I am sure they may occasionally eat bass fry or young of the year bass, but they will co-exist just fine together in ponds and small bodies of water.
  24. They are nice reels. There were several versions of that reel that BPS had made. Is yours the orange/gold colored reel? I have had a few and they are solid reels. New they were a bit over $100 or so. Used they generally fetch $40-60 give or take. I would say fish it like you stole it!
  25. From the guys that I know that fish them they are great rods at their price point and worth the consideration. They are NOT on the level of the NRX. The rods are slight slower in action so consider that as well. If you are buying one thinking it will give you the feel of a NRX and being light in weight, you will probably be setting yourself up for disappointment. If you have $200 or less to spend on a rod and are looking for something at that price point they would be worth a look. I believe Smalljaw67 and a few others have them and have been very impressed for a rod at that price point.
