  1. I have been using 8# Yozuri Hybrid on for jerkbaits the last few years. Its breaking strength is much higher than most other 8# lines. I think any where around 10# give or take a few lbs up or down is a good option. Some guys like braid with a leader or just braid but it is just not for me.
  2. Killing tackle junkies one post at a time
  3. Who is Lee? From Rush Hour?
  4. Yep! Hootie, we are not old, we are vintage.
  5. Both are important if quality is what you are after. For a bottom contact set up I prefer a lighter magnesium frame reel and a nicer rod that is light with good feel. For a reaction baits set up I am fine with an aluminium reel that is a bit heavy and a budget to mid tier rod. I might be looking at spending $600 for a jig and worm outfit and $300 on a reaction bait setup.
  6. Yep, just call the shop to take advantage of the special and ask for Bryan. I dont believe the website shows a sale price so just place your order over the phone with him.
  7. I am sure they are close. I have not received my 2016 GLX yet so I can't comment on they compare. A friend that has some of the new GLX models and says they fish faster and for some rods more crisp, with not much of a gap in feel.
  8. Doesn't he know that the bait was not intended for his kind. Tell him to keep his mouth shut next time! Doesn't he know that the bait was not intended for his kind. Tell him to keep his mouth shut next time!
  9. I would say medium but to each his own. I am tossing 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 oz jerkbaits
  10. That photo still leaves out a Alde 50mg and another modded Scorpion 1000xt. I would put you in the will but I would probably crawl out of my grave to the thought of you stripping all the bling off to make them "old fashioned" for ya to pair with those St Croixs!
  11. I would say you would absolutely love that rod for what you are describing. Generally for the NRX rods the 893 is for 1/4 to just under a 1/2 oz. The 873 is for 3/8 to 5/8 and the 894 is for 3/8 to just under an oz. As long as most of the stuff you will be tossing clears 3/8 oz you will find the 894 rod to be great. I have a MBR 844 on the way that I am excited to get. Will be my first 2016 GLX!
  12. The 50s are great as well and have lots of tuning options.
  13. Awesome photo Blue and congrats to your boy!
  14. I wouldng wouldn't even consider the Revo. The Tat Ct is a far superior reel and can be had for around $100 for the base model. This model also is more compact and palms better than the original Tat.
  15. The Daiwa Alphas SV can be found around $200ish from Japan. Small frame and user friendly breaking profile. Can cast down to 1/8 or 1/4 oz just fine and then cast heavier stuff as well. Great combination of palming and ease of casting. Price would be within your budget. The frame should be nearly identical to the pixy.
  16. New 2016 GLX MBR 844. Happy to get a higher end Loomis rod with a full handle and without recoil guides.
  17. Contact Gary at the TackleTrap. They have a special on the rods putting them around 25% off. I have the MBR 844 GLX on the way. For pure bottom contact stick to something in the Jig/Worm series. If you want something capable of bottom contact and some other apps the tapers of the MBR rods will give you some versatility.
  18. I agree with all the other folks that it can be done but at a much higher cost than a comparable spinning rig. That little cigar bait will be pretty aerodynamic for the most part with a finesse casting reel and a L or ML rod. You can probably find a ML or L casting rod for a reasonable price (Major Craft makes some great rods in this size) but a reel will run you a bit more as you will need something in finesse form stock or able to accept a finesse spool.
  19. Ty hasn't been active here or any of the other forums he used to frequent. Last I talked to him he was going through some personal issues. If you have any questions about the ALX rods I would just contact the owner Alex.
  20. I would skip it and go straight to the Antares DC. I don't care one bit for what Shimano did with the 17 E-DC. I bought both of my prior models for around $250 a piece. Now they want more than double that. No thanks. I agree it looks sharp and slick but I will pass on this unless they drop the price drastically which I don't see happening.
  21. They are good for: 1. Catfisherman 2. Cheapskates 3. People that abuse their gear 4. And for people that refer to fishing rods as "poles"
  22. Spongebob casting and Barbie spinning.
