  1. Nope haven't met anyone on the forum in person nor fished with any. Not necesarrily opposed to it but my schedule doesn't dictate much planning for fishing trips so I go when I can go. Like tomorrow for example I am heading out and figured that out about 15 minutes ago Usually when I fish with people it is more like we are on the same lake and might check in with each other when we catch something but rarely are we within earshot of each other
  2. @Fallser you have some amazing skills, great looking flies as always
  3. it was 98 before the heat index the last couple days and of course I had work to do outside and couldn't keep enough fluids in me but it is what it is. A "cold" front moved through today so the high is in the low 80s. If you asked me yesterday i would be all for the fall but as of today, nah I am cool with the fall starting like normal.
  4. Lightweight trailer with a max payload of like 500lbs or so. Perfect set up for this but I have been thinking of going truck next and getting rid of the trailer. It is pretty convenient though.
  5. 2012 mini cooper countryman ALL4s. Bought it with about 60k miles on it and now it is at 132 and mechanically it has been fine even though I did have to replace the turbo in it recently which was not a fun experience. It gets me where I need to go and is able to tow my kayak trailer with ease
  6. One thing I have learned from watching Pawn Stars and Antiques Roadshow is to never clean up anything old and potentially of value as that vaklue drops a lot. Other than that, you need to find someone who is familiar with the sword in the Masons and go from there
  7. I am pretty sure every state that has fresh and saltwater has two different licenses, at least the 8 or so I have visited that have both do.
  8. I only buy to replace stuff, this month it was jigs last month it was nothing, month before that, nothing, month before that some tying stuff.
  9. Works fine. The majority of fishing specific kayaks have a high enough seat that you can pop them almost perpimdicular to the water or you can stand up and do it just like you would on the deck of a boat. On a side note, I have found slow pulls work better around me than more aggressive jerks do anyways.
  10. Yeah it is kind of a unicorn today where you have top products and top service and he has definitely done just that.
  11. I agree here and never go heavier than 40lb but that is only because it works better on my bait casters. Spinning reels I usually go with 20lb or sometimes 30lb. One thing braid doesn't have is abrasion resistance and that thin braid jsut feels like it would snap easily.
  12. I am sure you will figure it out but the few times I have went "punching" i wasn't sore. Only time I am sore from fihsing nowadays is after a long day of fishing mountain streams.
  13. I did get the fogy sampler pack as well. I throw bladed jigs once in a while but last two trips out the swim jig bite has been on and I am thinking a bladed jig will be too. Hopefully I can give it a try here in the next couple days.
  14. The past 3+ years or so I have probably been fly-fishing 99% of my trips. This year I have done a little more conventional fishing due to weather conditions and my limited time getting out. Anyways, I went out this past week and realized my jig box was low so I went to where I always do, Siebert Outdoors. I placed my order of around 20 or so jigs to fill up my box and they arrived today and I honestly forgot just how high quality his jigs are. Anyone looking to add some jigs give them a shot and I don't think you will be disappointed.
  15. The stern of that kayak is going to make it somewhat challenging to mount a motor, not impossible but you'll have to reinforce it somehow, depending on the motor choice. I wouldn't sell it and get a kayak made for a motor though becuase if you have to paddle a kayak that is made for a motor, you will regret it. I mcuh prefer a good paddling kayak that I can add a motor instead, especially if you do any motor up and float back river type trips. I will second the starboard recommendation above as well. I was looking for a nose mounting pl;ate for my ATAK120 and nobody had them in stock so i bought some 1/2" starboard and made my own and it worked out just fine. I have also seen guys use tracks mounted across the rear of a kayak to mount torqeedo style motors as well.
  16. lots of good kayak trailers out there. My dad has an autopilot 13' version and he has a loadrite kayak one that does the job nicely and he is able to launch just like a boat. I personally have an old sportsrig model which is sort of like the yakima roof rack on wheels and it does me well. Doesn't allow for launching directly but I am ok with that as I can tow it with my Mini Cooper Countryman.
  17. That makes more sense then and you did try and get them to just pick out some stuff and they wanted it all which I cannot blame them as it sounds like it was solid gear. Maybe I am just not as nice as everyone else lol
  18. Should've charged more given they pulled out the $500 easy. Unless you are sponsoring them and just because they are friends, doesn't mean you should get screwed out of what you spent on the items even if they were "extra"
  19. Yeah they pretty much suck. I get chewed up going into my backyard and they go for the spots right about my socks all the time. More of an annoyance. My daughter is very allergic to them so we have to be careful and make sure she doesn't get any becuase when she does, they blister and almost look like a boil. It isn't as bad as it was when she was younger and we got some prescription stuff from the doc that helps keep that at bay when we do see a bite. as far as repellent goes, https://www.rei.com/product/785883/sawyer-picaridin-insect-repellent-3-oz I am not a fan of deet for a lot of reasons and this stuff works as well in all the stuations I have been in and had to use it.
  20. I have owned a 71 wagoneer which was still AMC at the time, 95 wrangler, 98 wrangler, 2012 wrangler and my wife had a 04 grand cherokee and none had any major issues mechanically that was out of the norm so I guess I got lucky on mine. The old wagoneer had some issues with oil consumption but after reading the owners manual it said adding a quart of oil per gass fill up was normal lol Yeah I agree that replacing a turbo is not hard technically except on this vehicle as the space was the major concern which definitely increased the level of difficulty.
  21. Sounds suspension like but you never know. the sqeaking when turning the wheel could be a bunch of things unfortunately but the first thing I would check is power steering fluid and if all the steering stuff is lubricated like it should be. I am no mechanic and I never stated at a Holiday Inn express so take this advice for what you paid for it lol
  22. Yeah I actually like my countryman. I rented a car while I worked on this one and it was a new Mazda CX5 and I was not impressed at all. It had more creature comforts than mine but the performance and handling was severley lacking.
  23. Do any vehicles have drums any more? I do agree though they are the worst. I did them once on my 95 wrangler and it was not a pleasant experience.
  24. Brakes are one of those things that when you do them once you are like why do I ever pay anyone to do these.
  25. mine is a 2012 so there are some computer things but not like the newer vehicles. I did get a cheap code reader and it works for the codes and even resetting them so that is kind of nice to have. Sure, what are you trying to get done? Bring the kayak and we can go fishing I haven't done anything that drastic and probably wouldn't as I don't have an extra vehicle to use while that one would sit and no garage to work in. I'd like to get to that level at some point but I'd need to build an outbuilding first
