  1. Duckett Micro Magic 7' MH. My most versatile rod. I've thrown t-rigs, jigs, frogs, weightless senkos, flukes, squarebills, spinnerbaits, and topwater baits with it while bank fishing. Yes, other rods will do some of these techniques better, but bank fishing I only take one setup, and the 7' MH does everything I do from the bank well, and excels with bottom contact and spinnerbaits. It has enough tip to throw lighter baits, and plenty of backbone. I have it paired with a lew's tournament pro, which is similar in weight and size to the Gen 3 STX and its a super light combo. If you wanted you could even go with a Medium power Duckett, which will handle your crankbaits better while still being able to handle lighter texas rigs and jigs.
  2. I'm convinced. I'll be trying one out soon!
  3. That's the only reason I haven't already put in an order. I may end up taking the chance. The bait monkey is killing me on this one!!
  4. Have you used braid with your ballistic? I need a new frogging and flipping reel so that's what I would be using it for and I use braid for both in FL during the summer. I ask because I saw where braid had grooved the reel during TT's testing.
  5. I was wondering the same thing when I saw the sale at TW today. Hard not to take a chance on one at that price, but the tackletour review kind of made me wonder.
  6. Awesome set up! I have that rod and had the reel for a while. You can fish almost anything on that rod! Great choice and tight lines!
  7. What reels will you be mounting on the rods?
  8. I use a 7' mh Duckett for T Rigs, but it's also my most versatile rod. I've used it for everything from spinnerbaits to weightless senkos. Love that rod. I also have an *** I use for open water frogs and honestly I would put them side by side in terms of build quality, with a slight edge in weight and sensitivity going to the Duckett (probably because of the guides). For Jigs I would go with the Heavy *** so you can pitch that thing into the nasty stuff. The larger guides won't get clogged with grass and what not like the micros will on the Duckett. For T Rigs i'd go with the Duckett in either 7' or 7'3 mh. Either way, both the Omens and the Duckett rods have really good tips and backbone. I think you'll enjoy whatever rods you end up going with!
  9. I read that in a TW review. I always take those with a grain of salt because you never know if the person writing them works for a competing company. That was the reason I came here to ask. I trust the members here much more than anyone writing a review on a site that sells tackle.
  10. General concensus on the Shimano Chronarch CI4-Good reel for all around presentations? Looking to get one around Christmas and take it down to FL where I'll be throwing frogs, punching, and generally fishing grass with all presentations. I've heard some negatives about the durability. Can anyone offer some advice or info? Thanks!
  11. I own two Duckett Micro Magic rods, a 7' MH and a 7'6" H. The 7' is my go to rod. It spends a lot of time in my truck and has handled applications from heavier jigs down to weightless senkos and trickworms when fishing from the bank. I have it paired with a Lew's Tourney Pro. The 7'6" H doesn't get used very much except when I'm down in FL around heavy grass. The sensitivity is great. I'm a line watcher, but usually feel the tap of a fish picking up my lure when I see the line jump (and other times when I don't). The tip on both rods is excellent, and loads a variety of lures well. They are also the lightest rods I own. The 7'6" is lighter than my *** 7'1 MH that I use for open water frogging. If you purchase one you won't regret it. The 20 year warranty is awesome too. I will add that a reel that weighs 7 ounces or more will balance more towards the butt of the rod, where as anything less than that will put the balance point more in front of the reel, and causes it to feel slightly tip heavy. This is a minor issue that I don't notice when fishing, just when I'm messing around with my setups around the house. Hope this helped!
  12. hahahahaha the Bait Monkey is very real!
  13. Thanks guys i'll go the DIY route and use it as a learning experience in case I ever need to do it again!
  14. This summer I took a kid fishing and he accidentally stepped on the second guide on my lightning rod shock. I'm wondering if there is a way to fix it that is worth it, since lightning rods are only about 50 bucks a piece. the guide snapped right above where the support meets the actual guide (circle, not sure what it's called). Anyway, it would require the complete replacement of that guide. Is there a way I can do it cheaply, or am I better off just scrapping the rod?
  15. Does anyone have any experience with both the carbonlite medium power rods and the shimano crucial mediums? Sensitivity, action of the tips, weight of the rods, etc.. are all things I'm interested in hearing about. Thanks!
  16. This post was from a while back, and I've since added a frogging setup to my arsenal.I use 50 lb. braid for frogging now. Thanks for the replies though!
  17. I agree with the above post. Small bodies of water will cool and warm faster and more dramatically than larger bodies of water, so transitional periods could fluctuate from one body of water to another. Just something else to consider. If one depth doesn't seem to be producing, keep trying different ones until you get bit. Last weekend I fished a spinnerbait, topwater, texas rigged worm, and a fluke until I figured out the fish were in about 3-5 feet. Then I counted down my lure to that depth and started catching bass all over the pond I was fishing on both the fluke and spinnerbait.
  18. Hey guys. I have a cousin who just turned 11 and wants to start using a baitcaster. He's really accurate with his spincast reel but wants to step up to what me and my uncle use. He'll be pairing it with a 6'6" Lightning Rod Shock. I was wondering what reel you guys think would be easiest for him to learn on? The budget is probably maxed out around the 100 dollar mark.
  19. That is exactly what I was wondering. I guess I'll have to make the trip up to bass pro and ask in person. Like you said earlier, though, if management changes, the warranty could do so just as quickly. Shaky deal right there.
  20. I appreciate the replies. It's not that I'm so worried about their product malfunctioning or breaking. Quite the opposite actually as I haven't seen many negative reviews about BPS equipment. However, things happen, and gear gets damaged. Regardless of the manufacturer I buy from, I want to know that they stand behind their products, and to what extent. Most of the time I can find warranty information on a company's website, but I couldn't do that at basspro.com. Just wanted to know if their warranty was much different from other companies.
  21. Does anyone know how bass pro handles their rod/reel warranty. I'm interested in the PQ and Caronlite combo but I can't find any warranty info on their website. Anybody know how they handle damage claims or returns?
  22. Thanks guys. I've been curious about FC for a while, but the price is what makes me hesitate to pull the trigger. When does Sunline offer the 2/1 deal? Is it an annual thing or was it a one time thing?
  23. So correct me if I'm wrong, but if fluro has just as much stretch as mono, then the only advantage it would have would be the "invisibility" factor. This is null for me honestly because I never fish gin clear water. If this is the case, then I'd much rather just save money and stick to mono or co poly.
  24. I fish in Spartanburg a good bit too you're absolutely right. Fall bite is just starting to turn on.
