  1. I was able to replicate what you described just now with mine. I was able to eliminate the play you talked about by tightening down the spool tension knob. However, I do not tighten it as much as I did to eliminate the aforementioned play in the spool when I am casting normally. I believe this play may come from how the piece of the spool that moves outward on the cast (Part of the MagForce-Z braking system) fits into the side plate. I have never felt this play when reeling or casting the reel, and I don't think it will hurt performance at all.
  2. Had to add that today I finally got to really test the casting ability of my Tatula. With a Spro frog tied on (older one that I use just to cast around in the yard), the brakes set to 6, and the spool tension set to a medium rate of fall, I almost threw all the braid off my reel. I have about 65 yards of PP Slick on top of 20lb mono backing, and was able to almost reach the connecting knot. I was blown away.
  3. Alrighty I'll do that. I appreciate it!
  4. Is that an email exclusive deal? I'm not seeing it on their site
  5. That's exactly what I was looking for. Thanks Teal!
  6. Hey everybody. Just wanted to hear some feedback on the Frog rod from Powell. I like that the reviews I've read say it's a good jig/flipping/pitching rod as well, but wanted to get some of you guy's opinions of the rod if you've used it. Also, if by chance someone has used both the Powell and Tatula Frog rod, I'd love to hear some comparisons. I know that's a long shot, though, because the Tats are so new.
  7. My Tatula balances better on every rod I have better than my other lighter reels. It puts the weight of the combo in the hand I palm my reel with, and I love it. I feel like a balanced combo feels "lighter." I have reels that weigh less on the scale, but when on the rod, make the combo feel tip heavy, which I do not care for. Just my .02
  8. I've read great things about both. I had an abu black max for a while, and liked the way it worked especially for such an affordable reel. I've become a big fan of diawa as well recently, and the exceler would be a good choice i'm sure. Put both on the rod you want to use them on. In my experience, Abu reels feel a little more compact when palming, but that's just my personal opinion. Also check the braking systems on each and try to cast both to see what feels better to you. Good luck!
  9. Welcome to the Forums! Just got the same rod for the same techniques. I love it so far, but i haven't used it enough to say more than I like the action and balance with my Pflueger President on it. Hopefully the weather will cooperate soon and I'll be able to give it a thorough testing.
  10. Whenever it ends...
  11. I'm about to try out the Timber Brown PP Slick 8. Usually use green though
  12. When you realize that you'll never have too much fishing stuff
  13. Like the topic title says, I'm looking for suggestions for a travel rod that I can carry around in my truck (inside the cab). I want something decent, but it doesn't have to be extremely nice. I'll be pairing it with a small size pflueger president spinning reel, probably 10 lb braid, and using plastic worms and jerkbaits. I have a few small bodies of water that are near where I live and where I travel frequently, and I'd like to be able to just hop out of the truck, fish for an hour or so, and then get going without the hassle of carrying a 7' casting setup and my tackle bag everywhere I go. Thanks in advance!
  14. Thanks for the stories everybody. I was fortunate enough to get a kayak this year, and I haven't been out once without my PFD on. The reason for that is not necessarily my own sense of responsibility or self preservation, but because of posts like this on this forum. It's one thing to hear someone say you need to wear a PFD, but quite another to hear a real world story of why they are the most important piece of gear for anyone out on the water.
  15. I've fished trebles with my MH Duckett Micro Magic. It definitely will do it, but given the option I'd rather use a Medium powered rod with a fast or moderate fast tip. I would throw the swimjig on a MH because it only uses the one hook that tends to be stronger and benefits from the extra muscle to drive that baby home.
  16. I saw that too, but didn't get a good look at it. Shimano is killing me! I wanna know what they're gonna release!
  17. I have had both the tatula and the revo sx. FWIW I sold my SX and used the money to buy a Tatula. Couldn't be happier with that decision.
  18. Ya GOTTA be kidding me... Very versatile, good for backlash, spooking fish, missing hooksets, casts that land in a tree, etc...
  19. A local tackle shop where I live carries them, and the owner has experience with them. I handled a few, and they were very light and felt great. I spoke with the owner about them and he said they were awesome, he just couldn't sell them because they weren't very well known. I'd personally like to try one, but I don't have a need for a rod at the moment.
  20. I had a Gen 3 Revo and now have the T3 Ballistic (same as shown above), and I really like how the T3 palms. To me it feels sleek, and just disappears in my hand. I do have big hands, but it sits very low on the rod. Compared to the Revo, it may be longer from back to front, but definitely is lower (almost angled downward) in the front portion of the reel. The pics above do a great job of showing this. The front part of the reel has a nice rubber feel to it, and that's where my thumb goes when I hold it on the retrieve. It's definitely a unique feel, but one that I really enjoy.
  21. Hey everyone, I'm looking at buying a gopro, but don't really know what the advantages are for the more costly options (silver and black edition). Are the features really worth it to pay an extra 100-200? I'll be filming bank and kayak fishing and uploading to Youtube. Just want to be able to share some of the great fishing I get to do in Florida and then from the Yak once I'm back home. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  22. Awesome. I'm looking to do the same thing this year. Can't wait for some warmer weather!
