  1. I'm 6'7" and feel that preferred rod length is unique to each angler. I've heard many say that taller anglers prefer taller rods, and visa versa. I completely disagree. Here's my take: If the theory that a taller angler would prefer longer rods were true, then I should be comfortable making low or skip casts with a 7' or longer rod, and working topwaters and jerkbaits with rods of these lengths shouldn't be a problem. Well, I still prefer rods well under 7' for these applications. My arms are proportional to my body, so when I have the rod tip low to the water, it still makes contact with the surface at times. My reach negates my height. Proper rod length is what feels comfortable IMO! @fluna , if you want more distance, a longer rod will absolutely help. The only obstacle is determining what rod length is most comfortable for you for the techniques you'll be using the rod to employ. Being 5'4" is not going to put you at any disadvantage when it comes to using longer rods.
  2. Just snagged an Arsenal marked to 19.95 the other day. Love the rod at that price, especially with Fuji K guides!
  3. This was on their instagram page today. Looks pretty slick!
  4. Versatility wise the 7' medium is awesome. Taper lends itself well to the techniques you listed plus some! Sensitivity will be better as well. Just throwing another option in there for you.
  5. Issue was fixed no worries
  6. When they hit, the entire surface just exploded, and I thought one bass had hit and missed the lure, then tried again. Once I felt the weight I thought I had a giant. Then as I was reeling them in I noticed the entire mass was spinning back to me. Kind of felt like a crank bait when the trebles get hung in the line. When I flipped them up to me over the bushes lining the bank I couldn't even process what I was seeing. The craziest thing to me was the catfish had both trebles! One in his mouth the other hooked on his side, and the bass only had one hook, and flopped off as soon as I landed them both. Just the wildest thing I've had happen to me yet while fishing. Made venturing out into the rain worth it! I do believe he did and it was violent!
  7. Went fishing in the rain today, and this bass and catfish decided to fight over my torpedo. First time I've ever doubled up, and definitely my first time seeing a bass and catfish hit the same lure! *Both fish were returned to the water alive and swimming! Has anyone else ever seen this happen?
  8. I've been looking at that exact rod to pair with my Stradic. How's the balance, and the recovery on the tip? Does it feel whippy? Thanks in advance!
  9. That's where my thoughts were going, but I was hopeful there would be a production rod accomplishing this task, but I don't think there will be. I'm fine with right at the reel locking nut, but those seem to be rare as well. Thanks guys!
  10. Both casting and spinning. I have not handled either of those with a reel on them. However, I will say that the balance point I'm looking for would almost be under the reel. The closest I've felt was a metanium mg7 on an orochi xx tour versatile, but it still was a tad tip heavy. I'm splitting hairs, but it makes a difference to me in how a rod performs.
  11. Hello all, I've been searching for a rod series that offers rods that balance "neutrally" or slightly tip up with reels weighing 6-7 ounces. i just cannot find any that are built for mass production. Is it such a hard task to accomplish? A balanced rod is lighter in my hands than a tip heavy rod that weighs less on a scale. If anyone knows of a company producing a rod that balances this way, could you offer some insight? Thanks!
  12. id have them take a look at it, especially since it was the 2nd time using it. I'd want an assessment and a reason why my GLX decided to become a two piece before ever really reaching its potential!
  13. Hey all, does anyone know if there are replacement handles available for the older gold carbonlite reels? I have 3 still going strong but one of the handles cracked yesterday on a hookset. Thanks!
  14. The new rod is definitely lighter and more balanced than the previous generation. If St. Croix would ever decide to cover up the threads above the locking nut I'd be tempted to buy one. I handled the 7' medium against the previous gen. model recently and I like the new one a lot better. The guide train was very straight and the build quality was excellent.
  15. Simple here. I was introduced to Crown Reserve last summer and I love it now. On the rocks, or with a splash of Sprite/ginger ale is the usual. This is now one of my favorite threads on this site. Keep it going!
  16. Thanks for the replies! I do believe i'll be looking into a cheaper option before dropping the cash for that particular system
  17. Anyone using the anchor wizard for their yak? If so how durable is it, and how is the operating? Looks like a quality product but I want to hear some feedback before dropping 150 on it. Thanks!
  18. Anyone have experience with Simms? Not trying to hijack the thread just want to throw another name in the mix without starting a completely new topic.
  19. Sieberts are amazing. I had an absolute blast last summer tossing a white and chartreuse swimjig in Florida that I purchased from them. They use great components and the paint on those things is TOUGH. Highly recommend Siebert.
  20. Bass Raider, How do you like those Fiber rods? What is the taper like?
  21. YESSSSSS!!!! Soooo...Scorpion 70 too??
  22. Count me in as well!
  23. I spoke to a manager at my local DSG yesterday about this deal. He told me he thinks they went on clearance to get rid of whatever they had left in stock, I'm assuming to make room for the new model stradic. In any case, there is still an FH model left in my local store, but it is still priced at $139.99, which it has been for a while now. IMO, I believe DSG used a "ship from store" method to supply customers who purchased the reels online once they ran out at the distribution warehouse(s). This could explain why some received the reels that seem to be brand new, and others may have gotten demo models. Just my .02
  24. Thanks for the replies guys, I'll check those out!
  25. Would love to hear what fish finders you guys are running on your kayaks and your opinions on them. Looking to add one to my WS Ride 135 and want to know what some of the best options are. Not looking to break the bank, but I do want a quality unit. Budget probably maxes out around $350. Thanks!
