  1. PM’s you @roadwarrior
  2. Hi all, I have a few Megabass rods id like to sell. I recently relocated and these have been sitting in my office untouched for months. They are too nice to go unused so I’d like to find them a new home where they will be better utilized. I’m listing their condition below. PM if you would like pictures, I’ll be happy to send them. Price is for the rod, buyer pays shipping. Feel free to make offers. Thanks for looking! USA Destroyer Otomat - $300 (Used less than 5 times) Orochi XX Braillist - SOLD Orochi X4 Destruction - $200 (Is an older rod and shows signs of use)
  3. I recently used it to throw a DT6 and Rock Crawler 50 and it handled them excellently. The rod loads deep into the blank when pressure is applied. Definitely could see how some would think its too stiff in the tip, but when a fish hooks up it’s got a nice deep flex that will keep them pinned. Just my opinion but I think it’s a valid option for cranks within its lure rating.
  4. I admire fly casting, having given it a try recently. I’d never sell my conventional gear and go permanently to fly fishing, but it’s an art form and certainly has its appeal. The challenge is there, and I enjoy a challenge.
  5. I use a Curado 70 XG with a larger handle installed. Loaded with 50lb braid it will LAUNCH a frog. It’s also light weight and very compact, which makes walking frogs easier. You certainly won’t find this reel has a huge max drag statistic. I will caveat this by pointing out that any frog fishing I do sees the drag locked down completely. The Curado 70 does this just fine. I have yet to experience any drag slip on a hookset. It easily managed pulling a 5-7lb bowfin out of thick duckweed with no issues last weekend (paired with a Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch). This won’t be everyone’s top choice but I certainly think it’s one to consider!
  6. Here’s the video I used to learn it: The biggest key (for me) is cinching the knot down hard after you tie the half hitches to secure the wraps. I typically put on gloves and wrap both lines around my hands and PULL. You’ll see the knot take on an almost translucent color as the braid digs into the leader. If you do that, then tie the four or five half hitches as recommended, I’ve found the knot stays locked really well. Hope this helps!!
  7. Exactly! This is why I now have 5 MB rods from 3 different generations ?
  8. The best example I can give is with the Perfect Pitch model. It’s a “heavy” power rod (F7 on the Megabass scale), but has a softer tip than most brand’s heavy power rod. It’s somewhere between a moderate fast and fast action. Once you set the hook, that softer tip smoothly flexes into the middle of the blank where you get the stout feel and “stopping power” of a heavy power rod. Some love it, some hate it, but for me it’s exactly what I want. Megabass rods tend to have a wide range of weights they can handle (3/8 - 1.2 oz for the PP). While they are technique specific, purpose built rods in the Orochi XX lineup, I find them capable of handling a wide variety of presentations.
  9. I’d go with a Megabass Orochi XX in the Tour Versatile (All around bottom contact), Braillist (Smaller jigs, lighter TRigs) or Perfect Pitch (3/8 oz and up jigs and TRigs) depending on the weights you throw the most. I know you said you were possibly looking at two rods. If so I’d suggest the Braillist and Perfect Pitch. You can cover a LOT of things with these two rods. Megabass tapers are very unique and in my opinion extremely versatile. Sensitivity is very good at their price point, and certainly with braid to fluoro you won’t be wondering what’s going on with your bait. Hope this helps!
  10. I picked up a Megabass Levante 4 piece travel rod (casting) last year and it’s one of the most versatile rods I’ve ever owned. It’s a 6’10” 5 power (on their scale) with a unique taper. Essentially it has the backbone of most brand’s medium heavy with a moderate flex. Unfortunately they are hard to find but I would recommend that rod to anyone looking for one rod to do it all. It breaks down into a very compact package and comes with a carry bag. I’ve taken it on multiple flights as a carry on, fits perfectly under the seat.
  11. I think the BaitFinesse was simply outlining the fact that when compared to offerings from overseas companies (Megabass, Evergreen, Shimano, Daiwa, etc), the typical American made rod looks pretty plain and many times do not match up with offerings at the same price point. We all want excellent performance from our gear. One thing I see is that in the US, if you go to a custom rod builder the work is usually excellent, and certainly competes with anything available on the market. However, the made in USA big brands have a tendency to have errors in the fit and finish (sloppy epoxy, misaligned guides, poorly secured reel seats to name a few examples) and lack the performance of similarly priced competition. Does this happen to all rod companies at some pint? Yes. But ive observed it less from companies not building in the US. This of course is my personal observation. I think that’s more along the lines of what BaitFinesse was saying, and I tend to agree. I’d love to see an American made company achieve the fit and finish, cosmetics, and performance that I’ve found in my Megabass rods at the same price point. Competition is good for everyone!
  12. I haven’t tried the V2, but I have used the original super slick and PP. J Braid Grand has been similar to what I remember from OG super slick. Time will tell if it’s better/worse, and I still want to sample V2 for comparison. Price is certainly better and with the performance I’ve seen thus far V2 would have to be a major improvement for me to switch back. Hope that helps!
  13. I just started using the Grand, seems like good stuff and ties a good FG knot. I’ve been underwhelmed with Maxcuatro of late and have been looking for an alternative. I use braid to a leader on all my combos. So far so good with Grand!
  14. I’m a big fan of megabass rods, and have never seen them available at a discount from a retailer. In my opinion your best bet would be to keep an eye on the marketplace here for one in good used condition. I’ve purchased 2 orochis this way and have not been disappointed.
  15. I saw that, 20-40 mph winds! I’m anxious to see what those guys will catch. I saw a few guys out practicing when we were packing up to leave last Sunday (Livesy, Crews were the ones I recognized)
