  1. If it's in a lightly pressured pond I wouldn't worry about the line. I fish a lot of highly pressured lakes and if I have braid on a rod I always use a fluoro leader.
  2. Zoom finesse worms.
  3. I would just look for a small club in your area. I fish a small club, along with some other tournaments, and we all know each other and just have fun fishing together without any pressure to catch the biggest bag.
  4. Sounds like carp jumping to me
  5. Besides my buddies raiding my tackle bag every now and then I haven't had any real issues. Where I live the only stealing problem we have is some amish kids that want a little extra money. But I haven't ever had anything stolen.
  6. If you are fishing it on the bottom, use some type of craw trailer. If you are swimming it use a small swimbait or a grub for a trailer, or a craw with lots of action like a Zoom speed craw.
  7. I would keep it and get it certified. If it was a public spot I would give them the location, and I wouldn't worry about keeping the fish alive. If a fish is old enough to have grown that big then it would have a very small chance of surviving with all the stress from dragging it to scales and such. It would have spawned plenty of times anyway, so the genetics would still be in the lake.
  8. I gave up high school sports, but that's alright; they really weren't any fun anyway. During the spring, summer, and fall bass fishing takes top priority among my hobbies. During the winter I get in a little saugeye fishing before the lakes freeze over, then I start working on reels, hunting, and shooting. Here in Ohio there are plenty of rainy days for me to get a few reels fixed even during fishing season.
  9. The rod will be used for small plastics mostly. Triumphs seem like they are about right for what I'm looking for. I might also check out the Carbonlites. And to WRB, I didn't originally say what it would be used for because I already know what action and power I wanted, I just wanted some suggestions of rods that fit my description.
  10. My idea of stiff might be different from other people's here. In this case I don't mean stiff as in a powerful rod with a lot of backbone. I mean something that doesn't bend too much, but is still a thin rod. The St. Croix Triumph might be what I'm looking for, I used my buddy's med-light Triumph and it was almost exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the other ideas I'll check some of them out.
  11. I'm looking for a new spinning rod, but I'm mostly a baitcaster guy so I need a little help. I know what I'm looking for, so I'll just tell you what I want and let me know if you know of a rod like that. I want a med-light around 7 ft., but it needs to be fairly stiff. I hate whippy spinning rods, so it has to be stiff. I'm looking for something in the $70-$100 range, I can't spend too much. So let me know if you know of a rod that fits my description! Thanks fellas
  12. I have used a lot of different types. My favorites were the Sunline, Mccoy Mean Green, and Trilene, there are a lot of good mono lines out there.
  13. What's on my mind today? How could Jesus love us so much that he was willing to be whipped, beaten, spit on, cursed at, and nailed to a cross to save our sinful souls...
  14. I almost always throw a chatterbait rather than a spinnerbait, mostly because the bass see a lot more spinnerbaits around here. They come through grass better than spinnerbaits as well, for me at least. On windy days I will usually throw a spinnerbait first, but on calmer days I'll grab the chatterbait.
  15. I don't really have a favorite brand yet, I can't afford to buy a bunch of different rods. I have a St. Croix Triumph and a Mojo, a couple cheap rods, and an iRod fred's magic stick. I really like the iRod for flipping and swimjigs but then again I haven't tried any other flipping sticks.
  16. Shimano G's are on a lot of forums for sale around $100, that's a great reel for that price! You can also find some older used reels for sale at great prices in forum sale areas. I recently got a Shimano CU-200B series for $55 and it is now one of my favorite reels. The older reels are not as small or quite as advanced, but a lot of them are built like tanks and will work great especially for a beginner.
  17. *You're Wouldn't want to forget that capital "Y"
  18. That would be fine. The line capacity ratings are just to show how much line you can fit on it, they don't limit what size line you should be using.
  19. ^ What he said...BTW $30 for an E series Curado is a GREAT deal!
  20. I have one and it's a good rod for the money. Feels like it will last me a long time, it's not the most sensitive or lightest rod I have but I would buy another one for $80.
  21. I have a Shimano Sedona and I think it's great for a starter setup. The rod isn't as important in my opinion, you can get by with a fairly cheap one. And as a 16 year old I know how us kids think, so I'll tell you what I think about getting free stuff. If I am just handed something I don't take care of it as well as if I pay for it with my own money. I'm not saying that you shouldn't give him a setup, I think you should if he's interested and can't afford his own, but just make sure he takes care of it.
  22. I tournament fish because I like the competition and the chance to win a little money. That's not the reason that I fish though! When I'm not tournament fishing I fish to spend some time with God, enjoying the peacefulness of his creation! That's the same reason I like hunting so much
