  1. My plastics don't dry out but I save all the used and torn ones and them melt them and make senkos and finess worms out of them. I got the plunger type molds from Jann's net craft and they work great.
  2. Guys I'm thinking about going this year. It sounds like a lot of fun and I will learn a lot. So do I tow my boat from PA or just fly in and rent a car? If I fly in will there be enough boats?
  3. I wait until the lakes are frozen to winterize my boat. The last 2 years have been mild here and I fished all winter. I change the lower unit oil and plugs and keep going. I haven't fogged my engine in 2 years. I just jinxed myself didn't I? Crap! I hate shoveling snow.
  4. All good info. here. When fishing offshore humps this year I have been very slowly creeping up to them with the trolling motor and when withing casting distance I have been also turning off my electronics. This was very hard for me to do but has increased both my numbers and size of fish substantially. I am convinced that trolling motor sound and the clicks of the transducers spook fish. I gotta tell you though I went through some serious withdraw not having my electronics on.
  5. Great show guys. Glenn thanks for all the clear honest info. and a great site that has helped me put more bass in the boat. Mike D. thanks for depicting bass fishing in it's purest form. You know if some of the political leaders from around the world went bass fishing it is my belief that they would get along much better.
  6. I'm a jerk and trap guy with water in the 50's like it is now. When it goes down it's blade bait time! I love this technique in the winter because you can catch everything in the lake that swims on these. Our goal when going out in winter is a Pa grand slam consisting of Largemouth, Smallmouth, Pike & Pickerel. We catch more pike and pickerel than bass in the winter but the bass we do catch are usually big fish. We fish up until the lake freezes if no freeze we are fishing.
  7. This or a 1/4 oz. little Cleo. The blue and silver are working for me. With all the shad around I threw everything I had at them one day with no takers until I put this lure I never used on. I guess it is 50 + years old for a reason. They work.
  8. I'm a blues harp player but if you like shredders you might want to check out Joe Bonamassa. They guy is the real deal.
  9. It depends on the year some years we are frozen all winter some years not t all. Last year was very mild here so we are due for a long winter. I hope not, I was fishing news years day last year.
  10. I have been out 2 times in the past week and caught 1 bass each time out. Both on swimbaits. The water temp. is in the low 50's and dropping. I am going to start throwing my jerkbaits and blade baits and slowing down my jigs to a slower then slow craw. You get fewer fish this time of year but the ones you get will have some size to them.
  11. My fat bottom girls are more of the shot and a beer type. They like my storm thunderstick most of the time with a deep diver coming in a close 2nd.
  12. I use 20 lb flourocarbon as a leader when the pike are around in the spring and fall. I have not had a break off yet. I would not use a wire at all if I were bass fishing.
  13. All of the above tips are good for baitcaster reels. If you are using a spinning reel the best way to stop a fish from jumping is to flip the switch and back reel. I learned this while drop shotting for smallmouth and have not lost a fish yet while using this technique.
  14. A friend of mine puts tequila in a spray bottle and sprays it on his plastics when he is fishing. He swears by it but I have never tried it. I dip my worms in coffee only very early in the morning.
  15. Our water is in the mid 60's and we are going look for schooling fish that are chasing shad tomorrow. It's hard for me to rely on my electronics so much but that's how you learn.
  16. Have you caught any bass on this rig? It looks like you have a lot going on there. I have shakey head and I have wacky wormed but never together! It's kind of like "Hey! You got peanut butter on my chocolate! 2 taste that taste great together! I watched a lot of TV when I was a kid. But seriously if it works I'll try it.
  17. X2 This works great for me.
  18. That is horribly sad on all ends. Somehow this 17 year old boy was able to pull the trigger on an unarmed man without a 2nd thought. Tragic news like this really make me think of the line in the song " teach your children well". I don't carry a gun, I've had enought of that in oher parts of the world but this really is giving me 2nd thoughts.
  19. There are a lot of different top water lures named here. I'm a spook guys but last week they were hitting on a popper. If I hadn't changed I would have not had a good day. I start with a spook and if they don't want that I change it up.
  20. Aruku Shad by spro in spooky shad color works for me in the fall
  21. I picked up a pack of Cabin Creek leeches and they look killer for a drop shot rig. Does anyone have any experience with these? Let me know what you think.
  22. The water temp. has to drop some it was heading there but then we had the warm spell and it went back up. When the water temp. Drops into the 60's start throwing the lipless crank. Yo yo it burn it let it sink to the bottom and let the bass tell you what they want. Good luck.
  23. I'm a fan of the drop shot rig in the fall.
  24. I going to try to learn not to buy so much stuff at the sportsman shows in the winter. I am also going to learn to make worm molds out of plaster of Paris and recycle all the used plastic baits I have been saving.
  25. Ok. If you are on the back of the boat the thing that has always worked for me is a finess worm t-rigged with a 1/16 bullet weight unpegged. If the guy in the front of the boat and misses a fish you want to come in with a secondary bait like this. If you throw what they just saw you won't get bit as much. This should increase your catch. Good luck.
