  1. I kind of think scent doesn't really help me much. Whenever I use it I don't seem to do that well. So I don't really use it. I do put a dab of megastore on my hands and rub them together when Im In the boat before I start fishing. I think I do that to out of habit more then anything else. I use Gulp sometimes but don't swear by it or anything.
  2. I fish up until the lakes are frozen and then drill through and fish. With no ice on the lake I would fish right through. It's rare but does happen on occasion that we have a mild winter and do not have any ice. It's fun learning how to catch fish in different seasons. We use completely different lures and techniques in the winter so it's a nice change.
  3. What are some of the best lures to troll for pike? We have a lake near us that has a population of pike that I want to try trolling for. Any info. Is appreciated as I have never done this before. Thanks!
  4. I adjust my fishing to the time of day I can go and catch fish. Before I learned to adjust my fishing it was always dawn or dusk. Now I am a hunter of fish thanks in part to some of the things I've learned here.
  5. Wow! He should write a book on how to organize tackle. Bravo!
  6. Cheap lures aren't worth the time spent fishing them. You will get frustrated fishing them. It's better to buy name brand lures that are proven fish catchers. Even if you can't buy as many you can only effectivly fish one at a time. Wait for sales you can get some good deals and won't get frustrated.
  7. Try a live target field mouse. I use this instead of frogs all the time. It works great for me but I have never had a fish cough up a real one.
  8. For the first time I am having some success with a bladed jig. I am using a white skirt with a couple of black strans and a RI white trash skinny dipper trailer. I just didn't give up on these after many outings without a bite. Not using a trailer hook and just varying the retrieve I am getting some fish. Is there a best way to fish these that I don't know about?
  9. When pike are around I use a 30 lb. flouro leader tired to my braid. It's a pain but I don't lose as many lures and still catch bass.
  10. Thanks Cliff Clavin!
  11. I bet if you put some white fur or feathers on that hook you will catch more fish. I'm curious to see how if works.
  12. That's a great story! I'm glad your father found out how exciting fishing with lures can be.
  13. I use the braid to flouo combo the rip lipless cranks out of the weeds. It's a great fall technique. I have learned that a rod with a good back bone works better for ripping baits out of weeds for a reaction strike.
  14. Good ideas guys. I put a pair of side cutter in my first aid box. One thing that has not been mentioned that is extremely important at least to me is skunk repellent.
  15. The biggest bait I throw is a 10 inch worm and I'm apprehensive when doing that. I've got abigbaitaphobia I guess. I still catch some big fish for my area 6.2 smallmouth and a 7.3 largermouth are the 2 biggest so far this year. I guess you just have to commit and don't look back.
  16. Pink tubes work for me when the bite is tough so why not. Sorry bubblegum. If you fish where the fish are you have a better chance of them hitting any color combination. I have caught all of my 13lb. Bass on a pink hulla popper dropshotted in 30 feet of water. Dang it! I almost got through it!
  17. I've been killing on a tube this year. I'm going to go with a tube.
  18. Crazy! Put a teaser on anything shiney and see what happens.
  19. Temp. Dropped into the 50's here for the last couple of days along with wind and rain. Tomorrow looks like a break in the weather it will still be cloudy and windy but much less with no rain. What should I throw? It was in the 80's Monday and Tuesday of this week. I'm perplexed but am hitting the water tomorrow. Any suggestions would be great.
  20. I love fishing blade baits. I have been using Binsky blades in gold and silver with great success for a couple of years. I picked up some Sexy Shad colored ones and am eager to give them a shot. And yes less is more. I always tell anyone that is new to this technique to just lift until you feel 2 or three flutters. This is an easy effective technique that can be used by any experience level of anger that will catch fish. If you haven't tried this yet give it a shot you won't regret it. Thanks for posting the video AJ. http://www.fishsenselures.com/fish_sense_lures_catalog.htm
  21. My friend from China does both. Double Zing! What too much?
  22. I am just starting the fall fishing period and then the cold water period up until the ice hits. Then I drill through the ice until ice out and then I start working the pre spawn and then I start fishing the post spawn followed by the summer period. I am just starting the fall fishing period and then the cold water period up until the ice hits. Then I drill through the ice until ice out................and so on and so forth.............hey man it's better for me then smoking crack......I never stop.
  23. I'm going to tell my wife I'm not fishng enough because this has never happened to me. I have caught a perch and then a striper ate the perch and I landed it. Also have reeled in a lot of half eaten fish in the salt from sharks.
  24. Very cool! Have fun with your new lures!
  25. I use a thermacell it works great. If I use sun screen I take a little dab of megastrike and rub my hands together. Seems to work for me. I stay away from deet as said before it will discolor parts of your boat.
