  1. Well for what it's worth, the guy who finished first today couldn't get a bite on a senko and I had two of my keepers off of these. They hold up way better than a senko too. They're about as durable as the BPS brand I would say.
  2. Just saw these at dsg and picked up a couple packs at $5 a piece, only eight in a pack though. Basically another senko knockoff but instead of being infused with salt, it's got sugar which claims sinks the same as salt. Anyone try these out yet? Gonna give them a spin tomorrow and see how they perform.
  3. I live in upstate ny so maybe it's kinda the same there, I don't know. Anyway try this. First off forget docks, and shallows. Second, rig a 1/8 tungsten bullet weight on a 3 or 4/0 ewg hook with a 5" senko in some sort of green color. Third, find a weed line in and around 10 to 12 foot of water and fish it like a jig, fall to the bottom and pop it around. The key is finding the weed line. Make sure it ends somewhere around that depth and fish all along that line in and out of the line. If that doesn't work, I got nothing.
  4. I'm in the middle with 40#pp. if it were me I would go to 50 before 30 for one reason. When I had 20#pp the line would dig itself into the spool easier because of the smaller line diameter. I have a lot less of that problem with the 40 and the 50 would benefit you the same or better.
  5. I have a 7' MH pro qualifier rod and 7' MH veritas micro guide rod. The biggest difference I notice is the veritas FEELS lighter because its less tip heavy and it also seems easier to be more accurate for pitching. Other than that if you're just throwing cranks or spinnerbaits or anything that you're casting far I prefer regular guides.
  6. It's funny. I always used to see people fishing and thought "god, how boring. Why do these people like to fish like this?" That feeling towards fishing derived from my childhood when we would go out with a bobber and worms and never caught anything for hours except for the occasional panfish, big whoop. It wasn't until about 4 years ago when my wife's sisters boyfriend was fishing at the cottage on the bay where I came down and tried out bass fishing with these "artificial lures". I thought yeah right, we're not gonna catch anything like this. THEN! I got a bite and reeled in a small bass. I was honestly kinda shocked like wow that worked! Shortly after I went to Walmart, got an ugly stick spinning setup and a handful of different lures including a hula popper recommended from the store clerk, including instructions how to fish it. I went down to the same spot at the bay, chug chug chug pause and bang! Caught my first top water and I was HOOKED! Three years later I have a fishing kayak, 3 bait casters and a spinning setup, joined a bass club, fished a handful of tournaments and managed to stress the heck out of my wife with the idea of getting a bass boat. I've never met the bait monkey, I got swept up by a gorilla!
  7. I used the red pp before with no bleeding. No prob catching fish with it either.
  8. I would totally get this if; 1. Needed another setup 2. Could justify blowing $300 on a reel 3. Had $300 to blow on a reel
  9. X2. I have read about this and since have bought a natural sunscreen. But the better option which I may do soon is to cover up like people have mentioned.
  10. I'm gonna see what spews out of my mouth at tomorrows tournament. Hopefully I can say something at LEAST five times!
  11. So I'm reading someone's post about hook sets with braid and I'm laughing my a$& off on some of the comments like "lay the wood to them", "rip their heads off" and "cross their eyes". I'm just over here dying and thought what other ones do you guys got? Lets hear it!
  12. Here is just one simple tip. Use your FF, locate 10-12 ft, find a weed line in that depth and fish the length of it with any and all baits until you find what they want that day. Good luck.
  13. Congrats on the kayak. I love kayak bass fishing! The main thing about a boat is now you can fish deeper water. Try to learn more about fishing different depths in the bassresource articles. There will always be fish near the banks but you'll find that there are more and bigger fish hiding in that 10-20 foot range during the summer months. Good luck and enjoy!
  14. I'm 33 and I do the exact same thing, only on my iPhone.
  15. I literally LOL'd on this post!
  16. Get one of everything No really though, if you can afford it, get a little bit of everything because I don't know where you fish but you may find out that out of all the various baits out there, there might be something that out catches everything else in your particular body of water. It's not a bad idea to become at least familiar with all styles of bait. Otherwise my vote goes to t-rigged creature/beaver style baits. They are a bigger profile and you can rig them heavy to punch through a lot of junk that you'll find most often when bank fishing.
  17. I've used braid, flouro and mono and to me the best way to go is straight braid, no leader. I like straight braid because it feels more sensitive when you get a strike but mostly because the hookset power is there because of the no stretch factor. Most of the time I'm setting the hook with a lot of line between me and the fish and braid helps significantly with that hookup. Hardly any break offs as well. Good luck
  18. So I've been around this Internet thing since around 1997 (33 yrs old) and since then I've spent a lot of time in various online social communities from the younger gaming crowd forums (very funny people by the way), early days of MySpace, yahoo user groups, YouTube commentators, pc geek forums, and tons of other odds and ends. I must say without a doubt, the community on bass resource is the most respectful, mature, helpful and good natured folk I've ever come across. I don't know if it has to do with fishing being the topic or what but I think there's something to be said about people that share this passion. Anyway, thanks for being such a great group. That is all. See you on the water!
  19. Thanks! Yeah mine is a emotion kayaks renegade xt. It's slow too and get pushed around by the wind like crazy but its very comfortable and easy to stand in as well. Thanks for sharing your video, looking forward to more.
  20. So that's why I had a melted zoom super chunk stuck to my Denny brauer elaztech chunk!
  21. That's ironic because 7 is about what I run the sx at AND my pq when only using mags on it.
  22. I have the gen 3 s and sx and haven't had any problems. Also as far as the brakes go on the sx, I think they are absolutely awesome. I don't know why so many people are having problems. If you set your spool tension properly to your bait and backlash then you increase the mag brake and cast again and repeat until it doesn't backlash, simple! I don't see what the problem is.
  23. Awesome video! Glad you didn't show boring stuff like casting without hooking up like I've seen on countless other vids. You were slamming them too! Bunch of good bass for an outing. What kayak is that by the way?
