  1. Honestly since I've been fishing I've never even spooled mono on any of my baitcasters.
  2. Sorry if this has been beaten up before but I'm just trying to get an idea what everyone prefers these days. Thanks
  3. What I do is start with the lightest weight and cast out whatever soft plastic I'm using and keep going up in size until I get the action from the appendages I want. Different weights affect the action of each bait significantly.
  4. Nice job! I spent Saturday morning on my kayak on Sodus bay and it was just as windy. I have a Coleman menace which is a emotion kayaks renegade xt. It's super wide and stable and I'm not afraid of any waves on that thing! I didn't catch any fish though, I should of just stayed in the shallows like the day before when I did catch em.
  5. Yeah this line is very supple and smooth and it casts excellent. That being said, I've yet to put it on any of my bc reels. I suppose I'd like to give it a try but I doubt I will.
  6. I have them on all my reels but I like the foam handles on the lighter reels that have been coming out lately even better.
  7. I've been using it for 3 years now, the 17lb and never any break offs and I even tie a palomar knot with it every time. Although the line gets cloudy over time, it doesn't affect the performance but I also have been using the same spool over those years if that tells you anything.
  8. Thanks for the update Felix. I heard that it was going to be a smaller store but I was still holding out in case that wasn't the truth. Oh well, I'll still check it out at some point.
  9. Anyone go to the grand opening on Wednesday night? I want to go check it out but it'll have to be a weekend trip cause it's 2 hours away from me.
  10. Haha, he gave me fresh water......at the end when he had his monster bag! No worries on that though, it's his boat and it's all just for fun but I just couldn't understand why I couldn't get more bites. Thanks guys.
  11. I did mimic what he was doing as far as retrieve when I was flipping a jig but no luck. I fish from my kayak the same way I do from the front of a boat, standing flipping and pitching. Its sounding like I was back boated for the most part so I guess I'll have to find a different way to fish when being the co angler.
  12. Chriswar, I pretty much did exactly that with no luck except the one. This is why I'm so confused!
  13. Shane, fall rate, I would agree on that. Jig trailer was different, back boated, I would say yes. Lure swapping, yes but not so much to where the cast count was way different. Jig presentation was pretty much the same, small to medium hops on the bottom. The fish I caught was actually on something different I setup, a 1/2 ounce t rigged 10" power worm.
  14. To bassguytom, I was in the boat, not on the bank. Paul, he was running the trolling motor and basically getting first cast to everything but I still can't believe I only could get two bites to his many. I do know that positioning is everything. When I'm out on my kayak and in control I can muster up plenty of bass without an issue. Is that all it could be? I'll tell you, if that's the case I prob won't be donating next year and wait till I have my own boat to compete.
  15. So we had our club classic this weekend and I was fishing as a non boater with and against my buddy in his boat. We were both throwing a black and blue jig, mine 3/4 ounce and his a one ounce. I also threw the kitchen sink that first day. To make the story short, he won with over 17lbs and around 15 fish caught and me...well I had one measly 1.5lb fish. Probably a total of two actual bites the whole 8 hours. I just can't get over why I could have such an awful day and he literally had one of his best days ever. Please help shed some light on this, it's been bugging the heck out of me. Thanks!
  16. That sounds easy enough, thanks!
  17. I got two of these at dsg when they were clearance at $1.50 a piece. Got two but never caught anything on them yet. What's the main point between lipless and billed cranks anyway?
  18. I'm in the minority but I don't like to fish while sitting. I have to stand and fish. I mostly pitch and flip so that's probably why I prefer to stand.
  19. I'm not sure if its supposed to attract them as much as it may help them hold on when hey bite. I had it T-rigged with a 1/8 tungsten weight.
  20. The first one I actually started catching good fish on a jig and he was about to switch to that cause he didn't have much either but then he decided to stick with the drop shot and got 3 fatties in a row. For what ever reasoning couldn't get two more to bite in the last hour. The second tourney I actually gave the boater some of my baits cause he wasn't catching anything. The third I was throwing a crank for a little bit too but I just wasn't feeling it and I threw a spinnerbait, swim bait and even a spook but nothing. I could see on the graph that there were no weeds so throwing slow baits was pointless even though I still was throwing a jig and senko at times. Def not gonna give up!
  21. First tournament the boater took first. He got 3 good ones towards the end of the day drop shotting. The second one I beat the boater and the third the boater was about 1 1/2-2lbs better. This last one he was also crankin a lot and I don't have too many crank baits so I was at a loss during those times when he was crankin. Even so, his weight wasn't dramatically different than mine.
  22. So I've had my third tournament this year in upstate NY, fishing as a non boater and I'm always at or around 8lbs. I can't seem to get a good string going. Conesus 3 fish, 7.88lbs, Fairhaven 5 fish, 8.10lbs, Port bay 5 fish, 7.90lbs. How do I break this streak?
