  1. Oh man, I cleaned out their stock of havoc hawk hawgs and devil spears. I got 20 bags for less than 20 bucks. Also got some xr-50 crankbaits for a buck a piece. I love how they clearance their crap like that. Win win for me!
  2. That's a good idea. I'll use my gps to check my speed. Thanks!
  3. Hey there, awesome post and pics. I want to ask you how fast it is? I have an emotion kayaks renegade and it's only 10 foot. It feels slow but it's my first and only kayak so I don't really have a reference. Thanks
  4. My friend ended up hooking a seagull and flew it around like a kite before he could get it in. During that time the bird was going nuts and ALL these other birds started swarming over the boat like the movie the birds. My friend actually has the first part of the event on video on his fb page.
  5. I use a MH for soft plastics and it feels perfect. I even swung a 3.8lb into the boat, no prob. For jigs it feels a little front heavy if going more than a 1/2 oz. I'm using the micro guide one also. Excellent rods.
  6. There are other posts of the same topic. Use the forum search. I love mine. Smooth, light and looks great.
  7. I just looked this up. Yeah it's a new pq rod. This isn't the older one I have. It looks to be a brand new rod from bass pro. I'll have to do some further investigation on this but still at $99 for both? Without looking at it, it sounds like an incredible deal.
  8. X4 for pq setup. However when I bought mine they still sold the pq rod which I love and I'm not happy they discontinued it. But, the carbonlite is a great rod as well. Lighter than the pq rod that I have even. The reel though is an awesome one. It's one of the lowest priced but quality reels that have both centrifugal and magnetic brakes. This will allow you to become familiar with both styles of brakes without having to buy separate or more expensive reels for these features. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the reel whatsoever. It may not be the lightest, smallest, flashiest or strongest (absolutely plenty of strength though) reel on the market but since you're starting out it won't matter to you because you won't have a reference. But believe me, the reel is so good, especially for its price point that you will be absolutely satisfied with your purchase. Just do one thing before you buy and that's take whatever reel you're looking at and actually put it on different rods. You will find a comfort difference between reel seats, trust me. Good luck.
  9. All of my rods are of the $100 caliber but I'd someday like to splurge on a $200-$300 one. I was reading something somewhere that most people drop more money on the reel when it actually should be the other way around. The idea being you get more advantages with a high quality rod than a high quality reel. Do any of you feel that is the case? And do you know that and buy the reel anyway?
  10. Wow, you know your junk. Thanks for that answer. That is really interesting.
  11. Hooligan, that's pretty much exactly why I'm looking for one at 7.1. I'd like to get the bait out of dead water quickly for more presentations.
  12. Yeah why the heck do none of the shimano reels have a bent handle yet?
  13. I know right? Abu seems to beating everyone to the punch with their 8.1 reels. By the way, just off topic, have you seen the new MGXtreme coming out? 4.9 Ounces and $500 bones. Crazy. Check out tackle warehouse to see it.
  14. Fish it like a spinnerbait where and when you would normally fish a spinnerbait. If you can find an attachable spinnerbait blade like a willow or Colorado, it will be even more effective.
  15. Thanks gambler, maybe one day someone will have one I can try out.
  16. In all seriousness, what do you feel makes shimano products so good? I've never tried anything except my Sahara spinning reel. Im interested to know about the baitcasters in particular. Thanks.
  17. Okay, so I feel like a complete idiot but I'm willing to take the embarrassment to make sure I put proper information out there and not give micro guide rods a bad name. I recently started a post about micro guide rods and my findings. I reported that I was getting less casting distance with the micro guide rod no matter the line type or reel. Well for whatever reason I happened to think what my cent brake setting were and noticed that I had the spring loaded cent brakes engaged on the pq and the pitch ones on the revo s. The revo brakes were essentially engaged throughout the whole cast while the pq was not I apologize for that. So after I corrected that and made both reels the same, the casting distance was essentially the same, but very smooth from the micro guides. The good thing that came out of the original post was a nice discussion and a cool video post. Sorry guys, *awaiting tomatoes*
  18. This is true. The feel of the bps carbonlite I bought last year was totally different on the bps carbonlite rod than the veritas. I went with the veritas because of where the reel sat on the reel seat.
  19. You can turn off all the brakes by pushing them towards the center of the spool until you hear a click. I think that's what you're asking right?
  20. So three of the brakes are spring loaded and 3 are not. The three that are spring loaded will only engage when you whip a bait out there hard because the spool is spinning fast enough at that time to extend the springs and drag against the ring on the inside. The other three that are not spring loaded will extend with a lot less spool speed for assistance on shorter casts. As far as how to set it up, I would either use the 3 of one or the other, not both. Practice short and long casts with both ways and see how you like it. Good luck.
