  1. interesting. as of yesterday i saw no dead fish and no smell. just a bunch of weeds that were brought up from the bottom floating all over the surface.
  2. how do you guys tackle this? the aftermath of hurricane sandy blew a lot of dead vegetation around which was already beginning to die off and it is covering the shorelines and patches in the middle. the pond is about 100 acres with a maximum depth of 6-8' most of the pond is 2-3'. i have read that bass do not like dyine vegetation
  3. you guys are getting pounded with rain!
  4. i am in Long Island where the strongest winds are expected. the winds are starting to really pick up here now with heavy rain. the peak of the storm will be this evening through tonight.
  5. the stripers bite should be fueled after the water settles down. it should push the bait out the bays by me and put the feed bag on along the outside beaches
  6. 38-40 already? as of friday my buddy was out and was reading low 60's up here in long island
  7. i am in Long Island and the fishing has been terrible for me. the past 2 trips i have not even gotten a bite. i am welcoming the hurricane because the fishing can't get any worse then it is now lol
  8. I am up north on long island. luckily i am on the north shore. people along the south shore (ocean side) should expect a lot of storm surge. winds don't look as bad as many thought. the cooler water of the northern atlantic should make this storm just turn into a huge noreaster. as of now noaa is expecting the storm to make landfall south jersey/delmarva area
  9. should be a wild week to come with all the wind and storm surge along the coast. the only plus i see is all the much needed rain which should help raise water levels.
  10. no reason anyone largemouth bass would need a 5000 reel. more then enough capacity with a 3000 or 2500. i can see using a 4000 with the advantage of a bigger spool for 40- 50lb braid. i have no problem with my 3000 and 30lb braid for frogs and jigs
  11. sog knives are nice and they stand behind their product.
  12. water is in mid to upper 50's by me. last time i fished was friday and i had fish on 10" worms and crankbaits.
  13. trilene XL or power pro for me. hate fluoro
  14. 5000 stradic is huge. i use them on my 9' surf rods for stripers and bluefish
  15. You will be chunking bunker or jigging with spoons or diamond jigs. Use wire leaders on your bait hook and a minium of 80lb mono leader on your jigs. I do not use wire when jigging because it affects the action of the lure. use 30-40lb mono on your reel. stay away from braid especially on a party boat (some party boats do not even allow braid) good luck.
  16. anyone have any interest in a saltwater fishing forum? i think it would be a great addition to the site
  17. my worst investment was buying tackle i don't need and I will never use. best investment has been college as well as civil service exams
  18. Old school works. It gets the job done and it take a lot to kill that reel. I own a 1600 i use for inshore striped bass and bluefish
  19. i only use spinning reels bass fishing
  20. any medium action st croix rod in the 6'6"-7' will work fine
