  1. st. croix premier. for less money you could go with the triumph, which is still a great rod!
  2. I have been a die hard shimano ago for a while now. the past few days including today i have encountered my first problem, their reels dont like to be wet! my symetre started binding up in the rain and and also today even after the reel had dried out i experienced the same problem. my sahara was fine yesterday in the rain until i used it again today it began binding up where it would be harder to reel. this problem was off and on today in my 3 hour fishing outing anyone else seem to encounter this problem?
  3. I am partial to st croix rods I recommend the st croix premier PS66MLF
  4. any recommendations on wet wading pants for river fishing? must be quick drying and have multiple pockets. thanks
  5. if i dont have a game plan i generally start out throwing reaction baits and depending on how that goes i will fish cover slowly with jigs or soft plastics. let the fish tell you what they want. i fish 5-7 days a week and i generally always have a pattern going but today was one of those days when the pattern completly switched and could not buy a bite on the baits i had been throwing the past 4 days. good luck and experiment
  6. lots of TIME on the water is the most efficient way to catch large fish. as far as tactics go i have caught large bass on both big and small baits. two of my biggest fish including my personal best have all come on finesse techniques. 4" creature bait texas rigged with a 1/8oz bullet above it on 8lb test. i have found on heavily pressure waters if i down scale my presentation i will catch more fish and bigger fish. this isn't to say large baits wont work but its somthing to think about. Google craig defronzo. he is solely a finesse fisherman and has some great articles. i believe he even writes for this site too
  7. i would throw a soft plastic due to the amount of weed and scum
  8. you can't even compare the citica with the chronarch. the citica is a great reel for $130 but if you have the coin i would definitely consider the curado. another reel to look at is the daiwa lexa. i m very pleased with this reel for $130
  9. anything st. croix. I am very happy with one of the triumphs i have. i prefer premiers or avids though mainly because of made in USA!
  10. bunch of bitsy bug jigs, net bait trailers, and some berkley power hawgs
  11. senkosam, what type of jig is that in the first pic?
  12. i tried rage trailers once. they are the worst as far as durability is concerned. caught some fish on them, but i cant say they are better than any of the other trailers i have used (netbait paca chunk and craw)
  13. use a weighted swimbait hook. it is an EWG hook with a piece of lead molded onto the shank of the hook.
  14. how shallow? most of the lakes and ponds i fish average 3' in depth. i am a big fan of the manns -1
  15. Capt bob I have tested the line where it breaks. I tested 12, 15, and 20. Sometimes it broke a few inches from the knot other times up to 10 feet from the knot. This test was done with brand new line using a Palomar knot
  16. Just play the fish, light tackle or heavy tackle. I can't tell you how many times I hear "I lost the big one". People panic. Just fight it like any other bass. Almost all my big fish over 5lbs have come on 10-15lb braid or 8lb mono. Good luck
  17. I just picked up a Citica early this week for $75 as well. Dicks was having a close out on them
  18. I just started using baitcasters for bass fishing. I mainly use em for heavy cover, rattle traps, jigs and blade baits. I am not new to baitcaster as I have used them for a while in saltwater but I recommended 12-15lb berkley big game for most applications. It's a bit stiffer then other monos but it's tough as nails us its cheap. Backlashes will occur at times just be careful picking them out to avoid weakening the line. I respool every 2-4 weeks because I fish every day
  19. Fished it all day yesterday throwing spinnerbaits an rattle traps. A good 5 hours of fishing and had no problems. Noticed some nicks in the line at the end of the day but that is to be expected. The stuff is so cheap I change it every 2-4 weeks (I fish everyday)
  20. anyone know where i can find large quantities of them? 25+ each color
  21. i've been a huge trilene fan for years until today. while fishing and snagged i went to break off and the line snapped about 20 yards from the knot! a little while later the line snapped during the cast. i did have a few backlashes a few days ago in wind but i dont think that was the cause of the line failure. anyone else have any issues?
  22. I read up generally if you need two to use opposite sides but two was slowing my casts
  23. I recently purchased a curado g6 and a citica. the salesman at the store told me to always have at least two brakes on opposite sides of each other at all times. I have just been using one brake as i am used to casting reels. any input?
