  1. I prefer tackle warehouse. they only sell online but i find they have the best prices and best selection. i only use bass pro and cabelas for waders
  2. palomar knot is a lot stronger then a clinch knot regardless if it braid or mono. palomar is the only knot i use and TRUST
  3. any medium heavy or heavy rod will do. what is most important to me is having the righ tip action. i like a fast action with plenty of backbone to pull the fish out of the cover
  4. i don't see the point in using a leader with braid when bass fishing.first off from what i've found bass are not line shy, second of all i use braid for the ability of fishing heavy line with a thin diameter which allows me to slice through heavy cover and vegetation. using a leader basically defeats the purpose of the braid. the only time i would see using a leader is in crystal clear water and even then if i was fishing crystal clear water i would be using mono. i can't help but laugh when i hear guys using 50 or 65lb braid with a 12lb leader
  5. st croix avid's are one of the best, if not the best rod out there in my opinion
  6. original power pro for me.
  7. 1-2" grubs and tubes on 1/32oz lead heads
  8. i have always had success fishing the shoreline that the wind is blowing against. spinnerbaits work well
  9. i'm old school and like the full cork handles. the split grip is just another thing to catch a fishermans eye. st. croix premier is the best rod ever made IMO
  10. can anybody recommend a qualtiy fluorocarbon for trout? i am looking for 2 and 4lb test to be fished while using live bait, spinners, and small jerkbaits. i have always used seaguar blue label but have not used anything under 10lb test. any recommendations?
  11. i use braid for more strength and it's ability to slice through vegetation. using a leader virtually defeats the purpose of me using braid. i used to use a leader but it seemed to just be more of a confidence thing for me. if you feel the need you must use a leader seaguar leader matrial is definitely the way to go. FYI, i out fished someone i know last night 3:1 using straight braid.
  12. i have not used a berkley rod in a long time. anybody remember the berkley cherry wood rods? probably my favorite rod for when i first started bass fishing
  13. bring the rod to a reputable tackle shop and find the right size. most tackle shops carry rod tips.
  14. i agree with Capt.Bob stradic is the best reel on the market right now
  15. i use the moss green.i know someone who uses the high vis orange and he doesnt even use a leader. he just uses a black sharpie and colors the last 5-6ft
  16. berkley power worms, senkos, super spook jr. those have been the most productive for me right now. now if you're talking late fall, winter, and early spring disregard lol
  17. depending on where you are fishing and what depth could give us a little more info. but for a basic guideline here is what i reccomend: 7" berkley power worms 5" senko creature bait (bursh hog) 3-5" grub willow leaf blade spinnerbait (good for burning them right under the surface) colorado blade spinnerbait (good for slow rolling) super spook jr. rebel pop-r manns -1 crankbait (shallow diving) deep diving crankbait lipless crank bait buzzbait 1/8-3/8oz tungsten bullet sinkers (may need heavieror lighter depending on depth and if you are going to punch heavy cover) frog 3/0-4/0 ewg worm hooks (i like gamakatsu) 1/8-1/4oz ball head jig heads i am not a big believer in different colors. i generally stick to natural colors: pumpkinseed, green pumpkin, watermelon, black, smoke
  18. i never leave my soft plastics in extreme heat or extreme cold. i don't know if it affects them but i would not take the chance. some people leave their whole tackle bag in the trunk of their car all season
  19. 7" berkley power bait power worm.
  20. what a shame. you can't go anywhere without having to constantly be looking behind your back. the SOL is a great reel it's a shame they stopped making them. good luck in your search.
  21. It is august and it's been hot...everywhere. you really have to work for them this time of year. i'd recommend slow dragging plastics or frog scum mats and lily pads.
  22. if i could fish mono for everything i would. i just started using braid this year and have mixed opinions on it. the weeds get real thick in a lot of places i fish and i am forced to use braid which slices through the weeds for everything
  23. plastic worms are the best baits ever invented in the sport of bass fishing. 5" senkos on 4/0 worm hooks should get you started and help you catch some fish. i also recommend 7" berkley power worms on a 3/0 worm hook with a sliding tungsten bullet weight. weight depends on what depth/cover you are fishing. most of the time i use 1/8oz. i have also recently been experimenting with "nail sinkers". they look like a nail you would find at a hardware store and you can insert them into the top of the worm. it gives the bait more of a natural fall in my opinion. google lunker city nail weights. good luck catch em up
  24. I have caught a lot of smallmouth while largemouth fishing in places you would think they never be. i don't see why they would not hit a frog but it is defintely not my first choice.
