  1. i might pull the trigger on one of these bad boys next season.
  2. i have wondered the same thing. bass pro works
  3. thanks!
  4. you can post a website. just not in a www. format simply name the site for example tackle warehouse
  5. Anybody know if they discontinued the black ones? i can't seem to to find the black anywhere. i bought a bunch of packs when the local sporting goods store had them but i've searched online and can't seem to find any black ones except black with red glitter and black and blue. Thanks
  6. i always think i "need" something but most of the time i buy it and it just sits in the tackle bag for months without use
  7. the lakes i fish are fairly weedy. for the past two weeks i've been doing damage with a black zoom ole' monster worm (10.5") with an 1/8oz tungsten bullet weight above it as well as yum dingers and senkos
  8. if you start to fish a lot around rocks ditch the braid and fish a setup with mono or fluoro
  9. I fish 8lb mono or 15lb braid strictly on spinning tackle 80% of the time.
  10. not really sure. i guess it was going fishing with my dad when he had a boat. we would fish saltwater from the beach in the long island sound. then when i was about 10 he bought a boat and we caught fluke, bluefish, striped bass, blackfish, porgies. my dad was a novice fisherman and once i got older (13-14) i would get dropped off at the local beach and fish blues and stripers. i basically taught myself and learned from the old timers. then when i was about 15 i started getting into freshwater bass fishing, mainly in the cooler months when the saltwater fishing would slow down. now i fish 80% freshwater and 20% saltwater. there is just something about hunting down largemouth bass
  11. i've used them over the years with mediocre success. i have not thrown them enough though. If you do buy the the rat-l-trap brand make sure to change the hooks out, the stock hooks suck. i am going to fish them more this fall and pre spawn. i bought some rapala lipless cranks and i will be buying some strike king red eye shads soon.
  12. my friend texas rigs them with a 1/16 or 1/8oz bullet sinker on 8lb line. he uses the green pumpkin and we fish clear and muddy water. he does catch fish but i have not seen them work any better then berkley power worms or senkos (my two favorite plastics)
  13. old school works best! i have never used a leader with my mono. i used to use one with braid but don't even do that anymore. if mono is spooled correctly you should have no problems with it. at the end of the trip put a heavy lure on, cast it out far and retrieve back slow and steady so the line goes tight back on the spool.
  14. how smooth a reel is does not dictate how good the reel is. regardless if a reel has 20 bearings or 2 bearings the reel with 2 bearings could still be smoother. it's not about how many bearings are in the reel it is the quality of the bearings. i personally would not want a reel with 15-20 bearings. it is just another thing to go wrong. the shimano sienna is great reel for the money. i have fished a shimano sedona for about 6-7 years now and have not replaced one part or even opened it up and lube it. while the reel is not as smooth as it was when i bought it it is one of the most reliable reels i have ever owned and i will continue to fish it until it blows up on me. I believe i paid $50 for it.
  15. lay spool on ground flat, run line through first guide closest to reel, tie line to spool, reel slowly providing tension by using the opposite hand you're reeling with. been do this for years!
  16. i don't think that is the problem. but if you think that is the solution remove the line roller and oil the bearing that is in there. the old penn reels had line rollers that would never move and i've never had a problem with those reels
  17. not necessarily. i know guys who fish tuna and wrap up 12-15 times and come back down 3-4 times. if it works for tuna it will work for bass lol
  18. never used anything like it. when my line is old i re spool. braid lasts forever and mono is cheap enough for me to replace once a month. i don't use fluoro but it seems a lot of guys need to use line conditioner in order for fluoro to behave properly
  19. i use 10-30lb power pro with NO LEADER
  20. use mono, screw fluoro. too many problems and the last thing i want to have to worry about is my line snapping every time i hook a fish. mono is cheap, cheap enough to respool once a month and not have to worry about all the hassles of fluoro and applying "KVD line conditioner" to your line every week
  21. whatever you buy, buy a short rod (6'-6'6") the short rod helps work topwater baits (especially spooks) a lot easier. now if you're talking about topwater please disregard what i said.
  22. i'v e found some reels just do not behave well with certain lines. it's just the way it is and their is nothing to do about it but ditch the reel and buy something you know works
  23. use mono or braid. problem solved
  24. if you must use a leader i recommend you should have retied especially after fishing it 5-6 trips. i recommend ditching the leader and just use straight braid fluoro or mono.
  25. shimano symetre. great reel and durable!
