why so? the few times i have used insert free all they have done is cut my line. may have just been the brand i was using though and they were lead and steel, not tungsten
am i the only old school guy here? full cork handles, fuji dps seat with the old school fuji hardloy guides. fuji hardloy guides are the most durable guides imo. the alconites are nice too.
What brand are you guys using? Particularly the ones with the inserts. I was using eagle claws but can't seem to find them anymore and I'm placing an online tackle order soon so I'm looking for some opinions.
Must have inserts in them that won't fray my braid or mono.
4000 is way to big for bass. 2500 or 3000. the 3000 is same size as 2500 except it has a greater line capacity. i use 2500's for braid and 8lb mono and i use 3000''s when using 10lb mono
I don't like UL bass fishing. the rod never has enough backbone and the areas i fish have too much cover. the lightest i go is an "L" power rod and the only time i fish that is in cold water when im tossing tiny panfish baits for bass. 95% of the time i fish "M" spinning rods with 8lb test or 15lb braid
Fished last night from 515pm-7pm. the bite was off the hook! (no pun intended). totaled about 15 fish with some massive pickerel. most fish taken on a watermelon candy yum dinger texas rigged with a few on topwater and 10" worms.
Around 530 i landed an absolute slob especially for the northeast where i fish. did not have a scale but was definitly bigger then my previous personal best of 7lbs. my guess is this fish was every bit of 7.5lbs maybe even 8. snapped a quick photo (photo doesn't do this fish enough justice!) on my friends cheap cell phone camera and she was released to fish another day.
the fish was caught on 8lb test with a spinning rod and made two jumps out of the water where i thought she was going to throw the hook!
The fall feed bag is on!
3" floating rapala. Trout, bass, panfish. The most reliable and versatile lure I've ever used. it can be used as a topwater or sub surface and can be used all year long. With all the new lures out there we all seem to forget about the one that started it all!
it's a fairly simple process. buy the appropriate drag washers and do it yourself. it will save you money. i'm sure you can google how to change a drag on a spinning reel and figure it out
depends on what you're doing. i never use fluoro only mono. i only use a leader when fishing topwater so the braid does not foul the hooks of the lure.
another reason people use leaders is for abrasion resistance against rocks, but when i fish rocks i fish straight mono.
12lb leader is fine for 20lb braid. i use trilene xt or big game for leader material
to sum it up i don't use a leader because bass are line shy but i use it to help improve my techniques.
