  1. I did not know that. Thanks. I thought the annual stocking was because so many get caught and people keep them, therefor the population not getting replenished in time for the next season. Are they bred to be sterile?
  2. Don't trout stocked lakes/rivers etc. produce better bass? I swear I remember hearing something like that on bass edge podcast.... Or maybe I heard just the opposite. However, I could swear the idea was that trout are a better source of protein and more hardy for the bass to eat than shad or other baitfish, thus making more healthy and larger bass. If that is the case, then we bass fishermen/fisherwomen should be glad to pay for it. Feel free to correct me.
  3. There are already a number of threads on this very topic in http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/forum/8-fishing-tackle/
  4. I really don't see why. If your parents are a part of your life (as well they should be, IMO) it's a natural progression. I won't dwell on it any longer or derail the thread, not trying to argue.
  5. My 4 year old darn near has his cheapie spincast licked (but at times it licks him lol) but like drew said, that line NEEDS replaced. I can break it with my bare hands. He has lost his share of hooks that shouldn't have been lost. My 8 year old (been at his mom's in Texas all summer) went out with me a couple times earlier this summer and did OK using a spinning reel before anything else. It'sa matter of dexterity and each child is different, but an 8-9 year old should be ok. I taught myself how to use a baitcaster when I was 12 or 13.
  6. That's 6 words (not 4) and only 16 year olds (not men) are fear them.
  7. "You're not the father!" Well, this one could go either way.
  8. How on earth do you fish a crankbait of any sort in weeds without getting hung up every single cast? Or do you mean to run it above or on the edges?
  9. That is my next rod when my new reel comes in.
  10. I kinda figured as much.
  11. Elsewhere (Walmart in particular) they are $39.99. By "others", he meant anything other than 7'. $54.99 - $39.99 = $15
  12. I picked up a Spro Bronzeye at Gander Mountain last week and gave it a shot this weekend. I seem to have trouble walking it. I do the slack line "pop" (as shown in Gene's video and elsewhere) but it just kinda chugs straight along. I tried in on open water and over some slop but got nada from it, not even a tail wag. Could it just be that I have to much give in my line or rod? The only rod I have now is a 6' medium spinning with mono (I think 12#). I tried all sorts of different retrieves; short pops, longer pops, pop-pop-pause, pop-pause, rod pointing at the water, rod at about 10 o'clock.
  13. Not true in all cases. I had golf clubs stolen out of my parents garage shortly after they moved in and insurance cut a check for $1000. I'm sure it depends on your policy, but it's worth a shot. Especially if it's quality gear. They didn't even ask for receipts, just a police report (I think) and a list of items along with their value.
  14. Say you cast right-handed, but also reel right handed (for your baitcaster). There is that split second it takes to swap hands when your bait hits the water. If you get a hit as your bait hits the water or as it's falling, you could miss some fish.
  15. I have some cheapies from Walmart and some Gander Mountain brand. Neither seem to do much on the downfall; they look kinda "dead" (when wacky rigged) if you will, but on the jig up they wobble like they're supposed to. I have not tried proper Yamamoto's yet. That said: they both have caught fish. Not many and not anything big enough for you guys to bat an eyelash at, but for me: good for now. I do think I will pick up a pack or two of "proper" Senko's and see the difference.
  16. Did you try Yo-Zuri? I am seriously contemplating that for my next line for myself and my dad, but since I offered to pay for his line, I can't exactly afford 4 different spools of line (he has two spinning reels, one of which an ultralight). I was thinking about getting some 6 or 8# for the spinning reels and some 12 or 15# for my baitcast reel. I have been racking my brain with this decision lol.
  17. I have trouble falling asleep because I think about lunkers and/or buying new gear. The cure? Go fishing.
  18. Here is the relevant rule for those interested: (bolding mine) http://www.igfa.org/...LING-RULES.aspx
  19. I totally agree. I just use it to gauge how well a certain spot is fishing or to find worthwhile new spots.
  20. Have you checked out Lake-Link?
  21. It all depends on the material. My engagement ring is a stainless steel one with some gaelic writing on it and is heavier and thicker than my tungsten wedding band.
  22. What browser are you using? I use Chrome and Opera at home and have no issues and here at work using IE8 with no issues. If it's some version of IE, it would not surprise me in the slightest.
